Alexis Lafreniere Extends Point Streak With Game-Winning Goal

New York Rangers winger Alexis Lafreniere took his point streak to four games with the game-winning goal in Sunday's 2-0 victory at Seattle. He opened the scoring at the 17:30 mark in the second period. Zac Jones added a second goal for the Rangers early in the third. Lafreniere now has two separate point streaks of at least four games this season, notching 14 points (seven goals, seven assists) in 16 games overall. He recorded two such streaks during the entire 2023-24 campaign. The 23-year-old has taken another step forward in his game and looks primed to see a lot more success as the partner of Artemi Panarin and Vincent Trocheck on the second line.

Jonathan Quick Keeps Kraken Quiet

New York Rangers goaltender Jonathan Quick stopped 24 shots to collect his second consecutive shutout in Sunday's 2-0 victory over Seattle. The veteran was in action for the fourth time this season and maintained a perfect record. Quick is now the fourth goaltender in league history to win four consecutive starts to begin a season at age 38 or older. With Igor Shesterkin firmly positioning himself as the No. 1 at the club, Quick doesn't get a lot of action. But he has been very reliable for the Rangers, allowing only 0.91 goals this season with a spectacular .970 save percentage.

Filip Chytil Exits With Injury Thursday

New York Rangers center Filip Chytil (upper body) suffered a new injury blow in Thursday's 3-2 victory over San Jose. He sustained an upper-body injury in the second period in a collision with teammate K'Andre Miller. Chytil went scoreless across 9:37 of action with one shot on goal. The 25-year-old has a history of head injuries, which makes his exit very concerning. Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette has labeled Chytil as day-to-day, but he is still being evaluated for the injury. A concussion limited Chytil to only 10 appearances last season. He's been in good form in 2024-25, bagging nine points (four goals, five assists) in 15 games as the third-line center.

Jonathan Quick Stands Tall In 37-Save Shutout

New York Rangers goaltender Jonathan Quick led the way for the Rangers on Saturday evening as he posted an impressive 37-save shutout to defeat the Detroit Red Wings. The Rangers were heavily outshot but their veteran netminder was able to keep them in the game. The 38-year-old has made only four appearances this season (three starts) as Igor Shesterkin has dominated time in the crease. During this span, Quick has posted a strong 3-0 record with a .964 SV% and a 1,17 GAA. Shesterkin struggled in his last start as he surrendered a season-high five goals which could open the door for Quick to see more opportunities in the crease. For now, fantasy managers in shallower formats should view Quick as a solid streaming option but could be worth stashing in deeper formats as he could be in line for an increase in playing time.

Igor Shesterkin Stops 40 Shots Versus Senators

New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin showed off good form in Friday's 2-1 win over Ottawa, saving 40 of 41 shots. Only a late Adam Gaudette strike slipped past Shesterkin, who recorded a second consecutive game with 40-plus saves. The Rangers No. 1 had a couple of rough outings at the end of last month, but he's been rock-solid for most of the campaign so far. Through eight starts, Shesterkin boasts a 5-2-1 record and one shutout. He has allowed 2.25 goals with a .931 save percentage. Among goalies who have started at least five games, only Anaheim's Lukas Dostal (.945) has been more effective with his work than Shesterkin.

Alexis Lafreniere Signs Seven-Year Extension With Rangers

New York Rangers winger Alexis Lafreniere has landed a seven-year, $52.15 million extension. The first pick of the 2020 draft will now be tied with the team through the 2031-32 season. His new contract will have a $7.45 million cap hit. Lafreniere got handsomely rewarded for a breakout campaign. After mostly struggling through his first few years in the league, he posted 28 goals and 57 points in 82 games last season. Lafreniere then went on to play a key role in the playoffs, amassing 14 points (eight goals) in 16 games. The 23-year-old has maintained the momentum in 2024-25, averaging a point per game through the first seven games, with four goals and three assists to his name.

Alexis Lafreniere Good To Go On Tuesday

New York Rangers winger Alexis Lafreniere (upper body) will remain in the lineup on Tuesday against Montreal. His status for the game was in doubt after he sat out Monday's practice and was labeled as day-to-day. Lafreniere has opened the season with a five-game point streak, posting three goals and three assists with 12 shots. He will be in his usual spot on the second line on Tuesday while skating with the second power-play unit.

Alexis Lafreniere Considered Day-To-Day

New York Rangers winger Alexis Lafreniere (upper body) is considered day-to-day. He could miss his first game of the season on Tuesday versus Montreal after picking up an upper-body injury. Lafreniere has feasted next to the red-hot Artemi Panarin this season, logging six points (three goals, three assists) in five games. Matt Rempe practiced in Lafreniere's spot on the second line on Monday. Rempe has a completely different profile as a player and can't be expected to have the same impact as Lafreniere. Jonny Brodzinski will be Lafreniere's likely replacement on the second power-play unit if he can't play on Tuesday.

Artemi Panarin Erupts For Four Points Thursday

New York Rangers left wing Artemi Panarin crushed the Red Wings on Thursday, bagging a hat trick and four points in a 5-2 road victory. He struck twice on the power play to register his eighth career hat trick. Panarin has been on fire to start the year, becoming the fifth active player to record multiple points in each of his team's first four games of a season. He has bagged five goals and six assists. The prolific form has made Panarin the first player ever in franchise history to boast as many as 11 points through the first four games of a campaign. Five of Panarin's points have come on the power-play, which has worked at a very impressive 35.7 percent rate so far.

Chris Kreider On Track To Play Thursday

New York Rangers left wing Chris Kreider (illness) appears ready to play on Thursday against the Red Wings. He missed Wednesday's practice because of an illness but participated in Thursday's morning skate, working on his usual spot on the first line. The Rangers' top trio hasn't quite hit top gear yet, but Kreider has been prolific on special teams and can't complain after scoring three times in the first three games of the season. He has tallied 11 goals and 12 assists in 30 career appearances against Detroit.

Chris Kreider Sits Out Wednesday's Practice With An Illness

New York Rangers left wing Chris Kreider wasn't on the ice for Wednesday's practice due to an illness. Jonny Brodzinski filled in for Kreider on the first line. However, Kreider traveled with the team to Detroit to face the Red Wings on Thursday, so he might still remain in the lineup if he makes a quick recovery. Kreider has started the 2024-25 campaign in good goal-scoring form, netting three markers in three games with nine shots on goal. He has scored in all situations and recorded the game-winning goal when the Rangers beat Detroit 4-1 on home ice on Monday.

Mika Zibanejad Tallies Goal, Two Assists On Monday

New York Rangers center Mika Zibanejad scored his first goal of the season and tallied two assists in their victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Monday evening. Zibanejad tallied his first point of the evening on the power-play on a shot that was re-directed by Chris Kreider in the second period. In the final frame, the center tallied the primary assist on Riley Smith's first goal as a New York Ranger. In the final minute, Zibanejad scored the empty-netter to complete a three-point evening. Fantasy managers should continue to view the 31-year-old as a solid center in all fantasy formats, given the top minutes he receives in every game and his role on one of the best power-play units in the sport.

Igor Shesterkin  • G  •  Rangers

Igor Shesterkin Sharp On Monday

New York Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin stopped 31 of the 32 shots he faced en route to defeating the Detroit Red Wings on Monday evening. This was a nice bounce-back outing for Shesterkin after he allowed six goals to the Utah Hockey Club in his previous start. The superstar netminder earned a shutout victory in his first start of the season against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The 28-year-old looks on pace to surpass the 30-win total for the fourth-straight campaign playing behind a competing Ranger team. Fantasy managers should continue to view Shesterkin as a high-end goalie going forward as he should finish near the top of Vezina voting. The Rangers will have a rematch against the Red Wings in their next game on Thursday evening.

Ryan Lindgren Close To Returning

New York Rangers defenseman Ryan Lindgren (upper body) will remain out for Monday's matchup against Detroit but could be ready for action later in the week. According to Dan Rosen of NHL.com, Lindgren is "close" to returning from an upper-body injury. Lindgren will be eligible to come off Injured Reserve on Thursday, meaning his season debut could come in a rematch with the Red Wings on the same day. His absence at the back has resulted in K'Andre Miller having a larger role. He has averaged close to 24 minutes per game while skating on the first defensive pairing and the second power-play unit. Miller has logged one goal, five shots, six blocks, and three hits in two games ahead of Monday's action.

Igor Shesterkin Shuts Out Penguins In Season Opener

New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin backstopped the team to a 6-0 win over Pittsburgh in Wednesday's season opener, recording a 29-save shutout. The Rangers hadn't started the season with a shutout since 1956 when Gump Worsley helped the team to a 3-0 triumph over Chicago. Shesterkin became the fifth Rangers goalie overall to shut down the opposition in a season-opening game. It's the start of a contract year for Shesterkin, and it couldn't have gone any better. The Russian netminder will face the league's new boys, the Utah Hockey Club, in the next game on Saturday.

Artemi Panarin Ready To Go For Season Opener

New York Ranger left wing Artemi Panarin (lower body) has said that he will be ready to play in the team's season opener. The Rangers begin the campaign on Wednesday night versus the Pittsburgh Penguins. Panarin's status had been under a question mark after he battled a lower-body injury throughout preseason. The Russian winger has saved some of his best performances for meetings with the Penguins, posting 17 goals and 39 points in 30 career games against them. It's the most goals he has scored against any opposition during his nine-year NHL career.

Ryan Lindgren  • D  •  Rangers

Ryan Lindgren Placed On Injured Reserve

New York Rangers defenseman Ryan Lindgren (upper body) will open the season on the injured reserve, according to Arthur Staple of The Athletic. Staple further noted that Lindgren is expected to return within the next ten games. The 26-year-old was already sidelined with the injury for a few weeks and was facing an uphill battle to be ready in time for the season opener. Fantasy managers should continue monitoring his status but should not expect him to miss any significant period. While Lindgren remains out, K'Andre Miller is a candidate to play on the top pairing with Adam Fox. Lindgren has yet to eclipse the 20-point mark in his five-year NHL career but remains a valuable asset in leagues that score hits and blocked shots, as he tallied 114 and 103, respectively, in the 2023 season.

Artemi Panarin Labled As Day-To-Day

New York Rangers left wing Artemi Panarin (lower body) has been labeled day-to-day after missing Thursday's practice. Panarin sustained a lower-body injury in a preseason game against the Islanders on Sept. 24. He returned to the lineup on Tuesday versus New Jersey but left the contest four shifts in with a lower-body injury again. It's possible he reaggravated the injury he was dealing with earlier. Getting Panarin ready in time for the first game of the season will be vital for the Rangers' chances of getting off to a good start. The team has already lost fellow forward Jimmy Vesey (lower body) and defenseman Ryan Lindgren (upper body) ahead of opening night.

Artemi Panarin Returns To Rangers Lineup

New York Rangers left wing Artemi Panarin (lower body) will make his return to the lineup in Tuesday's preseason game against New Jersey. The Russian star has been nursing a lower-body injury since getting hurt in a clash with the Islanders on Sept. 24. Panarin will skate with Vincent Trocheck and Alexis Lafreniere on Tuesday. The Rangers have one more preseason game against the Islanders coming up later in the week, giving Panarin another opportunity to get some action in before the regular season starts. Coming off a 120-point campaign, Panarin has set a high bar for himself.

Jimmy Vesey To Miss "A Few Weeks"

New York Rangers left wing Jimmy Vesey (lower body) is set to miss multiple weeks of action. Vesey suffered a lower-body injury in Sunday's practice, and Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette announced on Monday that the veteran winger is expected to miss "a few weeks." Considering the update, it looks unlikely Vesey will be ready for the start of the regular season. The Rangers begin their campaign on Oct. 9 versus the Pittsburgh Penguins. Youngsters Brennan Othmann and Adam Edstrom will have a chance to land a spot on the team in Vesey's absence.
