Alexis Lafreniere Collects Three Points in Victory

New York Rangers winger Alexis Lafreniere scored a goal and added two assists in Thursday's 6-2 victory against the Maple Leafs. Shesterkin is having a quality bounce-back season despite the team having a very disappointing campaign, as the former Vezina Trophy winner has posted a 2.50 goals against average and .912 save percentage to go with one shutout through 38 appearances.

Adam Fox Ready to Face Flyers

New York Rangers defenseman Adam Fox (lower body) will play on Thursday against the Philadelphia Flyers. Before the Olympic break, Fox missed 13 consecutive games and has been available for just three of the last 30 games. When in the lineup, Fox has been top-class, recording 28 points (four goals, 24 assists), 56 shots, and 45 blocks in 30 appearances. The Flyers allow over three goals per game (3.16) and have a .884 save percentage this season, making it a favorable fantasy matchup for Fox and the Rangers.

Igor Shesterkin Available Thursday

New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin (lower body) will be back in the net on Thursday night against the Philadelphia Flyers. The Russian netminder hasn't played since Jan. 5 due to a lower-body injury. Although the Rangers sit at the bottom of the Eastern Conference, Shesterkin has had a fine campaign. He has posted a 17-12-4 record across 34 starts, with a 2.45 goals-against average, a .913 save percentage, and one shutout. On Thursday, Shesterkin will go up against the league's 22nd-ranked offense, which has produced 2.86 goals per game.

Matt Rempe Heading to Injured Reserve After Second Thumb Procedure

New York Rangers right wing Matt Rempe (thumb) will be placed on Injured Reserve. Rempe injured his left thumb in October during a fight with San Jose Sharks forward Ryan Reaves and will now undergo a second procedure to get it fixed. It's unclear when Rempe will be ready to return to action, but the team hasn't ruled him out for the season. The 23-year-old enforcer has managed one goal in 26 outings this season, with 11 penalty minutes and 86 hits.

Carson Soucy Expected Back on Monday

New York Rangers defenseman Carson Soucy (personal) is expected to rejoin the team for Monday's tilt against the Anaheim Ducks. The 31-year-old didn't travel with the Rangers for the first game of a four-game road trip on Saturday against the Philadelphia Flyers, missing the action for personal reasons. It was Soucy's fifth absence of the season. He is ranked third on the Rangers squad with 63 blocks and eighth with 68 hits. On the offensive end, Soucy has produced three goals and five assists in 44 outings. Before exiting the lineup, Soucy had assists in back-to-back games. If Soucy picks up a point in his next game, it will mark only the second time in his NHL career that he's made it onto the score sheet in three consecutive appearances.

If he's ready to return against Boston, Laba is expected to fill third-line duties.

Alexis Lafreniere Battling Illness, Iffy for Thursday

New York Rangers winger Alexis Lafreniere (illness) missed Wednesday's practice and may not be available for Thursday's tilt against the Buffalo Sabres. After bagging four points (one goal, three assists) in the first two games of 2026, Lafreniere could be sidelined by an illness. In December, Lafreniere had points in only four of 15 appearances, but he has shown encouraging signs of improvement early this month. Luckily for the Rangers, J.T. Miller (upper body) is on the cusp of returning and could take Lafreniere's spot in the lineup.

J.T. Miller Likely to Return Thursday

New York Rangers forward J.T. Miller (upper body) is on track to return to action on Thursday against the Buffalo Sabres. An upper-body injury knocked the Rangers captain out of the lineup before the holiday break, leading to a seven-game absence. At the start of the week, Miller was cleared for contact and now appears ready for game action. This season, Miller has lacked his usual sharpness, going for only 22 points (10 goals, 12 assists) in 35 games. He has made it to the score sheet just 16 times throughout the campaign.

Adam Fox Landing Back on Long-Term Injured Reserve

New York Rangers defenseman Adam Fox (lower body) will be placed on long-term Injured Reserve, Stephen Whyno of AP reports. Fox had just returned from an upper-body injury and is now dealing with a lower-body issue. He played all of regulation on Monday against the Utah Mammoth but didn't log a single shift in overtime. His placement on long-term Injured Reserve rules Fox out for at least 10 games. When in the lineup, Fox has been very impactful this season, posting 28 points (four goals, 24 assists) in 30 games with 45 blocks. Vladislav Gavrikov is expected to see increased power-play time while Fox is out.

Igor Shesterkin Exits With Lower-Body Injury Monday

New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin (lower body) exited Monday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Utah Mammoth in the first period. The former Vezina Trophy winner couldn't carry on after being involved in a collision with Mammoth forward JJ Peterka. Shesterkin, who saved all nine shots he faced, was replaced in the crease by Jonathan Quick. While exiting the ice, he was unable to put weight on his left foot. Despite the Rangers' home struggles in 2025-26, Shesterkin maintains a solid 17-12-4 record. He has posted a 2.45 goals-against average, a .913 save percentage, and one shutout. Quick, who is 3-6-2 for the season, faces an increased workload if Shesterkin misses time.

Alexis Lafreniere Sets Up Three Goals in Winter Classic Win

New York Rangers winger Alexis Lafreniere tied the NHL Winter Classic record with three assists in Friday's 5-1 victory over the Florida Panthers. Het set up hat-trick hero Mika Zibanejad for a pair of goals and also helped Artemi Panarin to score. Lafreniere recorded more points than he had managed over his previous eight appearances. The 24-year-old has been plagued by inconsistency throughout the season, scoring points in only 15 of his 43 outings. Overall, he has collected eight goals and 15 assists through 43 contests. On paper, Lafreniere finds himself in a great spot to make a mark, as he is part of New York's top-six group and skates on the first power-play unit.

Mika Zibanejad Produces Historic Winter Classic Performance

New York Rangers center Mika Zibanejad rocked the Florida Panthers on Friday night with a five-point performance in a 5-1 win, setting the new Winter Classic scoring record and becoming the first player to post a hat trick in the special matchup. It marks the third-ever hat trick in an NHL outdoor game. Zibanejad scored in each period, while setting up Artemi Panarin for a couple of goals. Two of his points came on the power play. Although Zibanejad hasn't been at his best this season, his outstanding performance in his first outing of 2026 could be a sign of better things to come. In 42 games, he has recorded 15 goals and 20 assists.

Noah Laba Out Week-to-Week

New York Rangers center Noah Laba (upper body) is considered week-to-week. The rookie sustained an upper-body injury during Wednesday's matchup against the Washington Capitals and won't be available for the first few games of 2026. Laba has notched 12 points (five goals, seven assists) across his first 42 career games in 2025-25. The timing of his injury is very unfortunate, as the 22-year-old was hurt just before the 2026 Winter Classic against the Florida Panthers. New York has also lost Conor Sheary (lower body) from its third line ahead of the game. Brett Berard, Anton Blidh, and Justin Dowling are the candidates to fill the gaps in the lineup.
