Alexis Lafreniere Signs Seven-Year Extension With Rangers

New York Rangers winger Alexis Lafreniere has landed a seven-year, $52.15 million extension. The first pick of the 2020 draft will now be tied with the team through the 2031-32 season. His new contract will have a $7.45 million cap hit. Lafreniere got handsomely rewarded for a breakout campaign. After mostly struggling through his first few years in the league, he posted 28 goals and 57 points in 82 games last season. Lafreniere then went on to play a key role in the playoffs, amassing 14 points (eight goals) in 16 games. The 23-year-old has maintained the momentum in 2024-25, averaging a point per game through the first seven games, with four goals and three assists to his name.

Alexis Lafreniere Good To Go On Tuesday

New York Rangers winger Alexis Lafreniere (upper body) will remain in the lineup on Tuesday against Montreal. His status for the game was in doubt after he sat out Monday's practice and was labeled as day-to-day. Lafreniere has opened the season with a five-game point streak, posting three goals and three assists with 12 shots. He will be in his usual spot on the second line on Tuesday while skating with the second power-play unit.

Alexis Lafreniere Considered Day-To-Day

New York Rangers winger Alexis Lafreniere (upper body) is considered day-to-day. He could miss his first game of the season on Tuesday versus Montreal after picking up an upper-body injury. Lafreniere has feasted next to the red-hot Artemi Panarin this season, logging six points (three goals, three assists) in five games. Matt Rempe practiced in Lafreniere's spot on the second line on Monday. Rempe has a completely different profile as a player and can't be expected to have the same impact as Lafreniere. Jonny Brodzinski will be Lafreniere's likely replacement on the second power-play unit if he can't play on Tuesday.

Alexis Lafreniere Bags Eighth Postseason Goal

New York Rangers winger Alexis Lafreniere continued his terrific postseason campaign with another goal in Thursday's 3-2 loss to Florida. He finished the scoring in the contest, notching his eighth playoff goal of the year. Alex Kovalev is the only player aged 22 or younger in Rangers history to score more goals in a single postseason (9). With him having also recorded six assists, Lafreniere is tied for the third most points among Rangers players in these playoffs. He will look to score in a fourth consecutive game when the Rangers try to stave off elimination on Saturday night.

Alexis Lafreniere Nets Two Goals In Game 3 Victory

New York Rangers winger Alexis Lafreniere ended a four-game point drought with a pair of goals in Sunday's 5-4 overtime victory against Florida. Lafreniere scored in each of the first two periods to help the Rangers grab a 4-2 lead ahead of the third frame. The 22-year-old reached six goals and 12 points for the postseason. Through 13 games, Lafreniere has averaged close to three shots per game, but he's lit the lamp in only four outings. Prior to Sunday's game, Lafreniere's lone goals had come during a three-game stretch early in the second round. It would be a big plus for the Rangers if the former first-overall pick could regularly help out on the offensive end.

Another prolific outing on Saturday took Lafreniere's point streak to five games. With Artemi Panarin and Vincent Trocheck skating as his linemates, the stage is perfectly set for the 22-year-old to enjoy even more success as the Rangers take a 2-0 lead to the capital.

Alexis Lafreniere Posts First Career Hat Trick During Five-Point Outing

New York Rangers winger Alexis Lafreniere looked spectacular against the Coyotes on Saturday, completing an 8-5 win with his first career hat trick and five points. The 22-year-old became the Rangers' youngest player in 35 years to get to as many as five points in a single game. Lafreniere's NHL career has been full of bumps since he went first in the 2020 draft, but he's had a solid campaign in 2023-24 with 25 goals and 52 points in 74 games. Playing next to the sensational Artemi Panarin and Vincent Trocheck, Lafreniere has had a couple of very prolific weeks. In the past nine games, Lafreniere has collected 13 points (seven goals, six assists).

Alexis Lafreniere Scores Game-Winner Against Avalanche

New York Rangers left wing Alexis Lafreniere scored the game-winning goal in Monday's 2-1 overtime victory against the Avalanche. Lafreniere made a nice individual effort to avoid the defender and find the back of the net from the faceoff circle, bringing the Rangers a win less than two minutes into overtime. The 22-year-old forward is worth rostering in deeper formats as he ranks fifth on the team in scoring with 13 goals to go along with 30 points through 50 games.

Alexis Lafreniere Pots Game-Winner Against Capitals

New York Rangers winger Alexis Lafreniere ended a brief scoring drought with the game-winning goal in Sunday's 2-1 victory over Washington. After going two games without a point, the young forward potted his 11th goal of the season late in the first period. It's his first goal in nine games. Lafreniere hasn't had much luck in front of the net lately, but he's done well on the Rangers' second line this season. With 42 games played, Lafreniere has notched 26 points with 112 shots on goal. He's among the team leaders with 22 even-strength points.

Alexis Lafreniere Delivers Two Assists

New York Rangers winger Alexis Lafreniere had his third multi-point outing of the season on Wednesday, completing a 3-2 victory over Detroit with two assists. He helped Artemi Panarin to open the scoring early in the second period and tallied another assist when Jimmy Vesey closed out the game 4:15 from the end. All of Lafreniere's multi-point efforts have come this month, but he has been in a slump lately and had bagged just one point in six outings before breaking out on Wednesday. Overall, it's been a decent campaign for the 22-year-old, as Lafreniere is third on the team with eight goals and recorded 14 points in 21 appearances.

Alexis Lafreniere Puts Forth Three-Point Effort Thursday

New York Rangers winger Alexis Lafreniere collected a trio of points on Thursday as the Rangers knocked off the visiting Minnesota Wild by a 4-1 score. The former No. 1 overall pick notched an assist on Vincent Trocheck's early first-period goal before adding a tally of his own just 1:41 into the third period which stood as the eventual game-winner. He would assist on a late Blake Wheeler insurance marker for his third point on the evening. After disappointing through his first three NHL seasons under massive expectations, the 22-year-old has shown encouraging signs of breaking out this season. He has notched five goals and nine points in 13 games, including a goal and five points over his last three. With just 22 shots and five hits on the season, he remains a bubble fantasy asset at best but is in a nice spot on the right wing of Vincent Trocheck and superstar Artemi Panarin.

Alexis Lafreniere Misses Saturday's Practice

New York Rangers left wing Alexis Lafreniere was unable to practice on Saturday due to an upper-body injury, and he is considered day-to-day. The former No. 1 draft pick is getting ready to enter his fourth NHL campaign. He has so far produced only 47 goals and 91 points in 216 games. Getting injured right before the start of a new campaign is a fresh blow for Lafreniere, but Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette has offered some hope that the 21-year-old can recover in time for Thursday's season opener. "He was out there this morning," Laviolette said after Saturday's practice. "I'm thinking he'll return to us tomorrow, and from there, we'll see how he is."

Rangers Sign Alexis Lafreniere To Two-Year Deal

New York Rangers left wing Alexis Lafreniere has finally agreed on an extension with the team, signing up for two years and $4.65 million. The 2020 No. 1 draft pick was a restricted free agent after coming off his entry-level contract. Lafreniere has struggled to live up to his draft status, but he did have his best season to date in 2022-23, posting 39 points (16 goals, 23 assists) in 39 games. At still only 21 years of age, Lafreniere has already skated in 216 regular-season contests, hitting 47 goals and delivering 44 assists. He's been a middle-six piece for the Rangers and faces plenty of competition for a spot on a scoring line.

Alexis Lafreniere Keeps Hot Streak Going

New York Rangers winger Alexis Lafreniere scored in a second consecutive game to help the team to a 4-3 victory over Vancouver Wednesday. The former first-overall pick has heated up lately with three goals and three assists in seven games. Lafreniere has benefited from playing with Filip Chytil, who netted a goal in a fifth consecutive game Wednesday. It's been great a great couple of weeks for Lafreniere, but his overall numbers are still looking pretty poor. In 50 games played, the 21-year-old has tallied only eight goals and 24 points.

Alexis Lafreniere Scratched On Thursday

New York Rangers winger Alexis Lafreniere will miss Thursday's matchup against Tampa Bay as a healthy scratch. The top pick of the 2020 draft has struggled to perform consistently and will now get some time off to reboot. In 36 games this season, Lafreniere has recorded five goals and 12 assists. He will give up his spot to Sammy Blais, who will be back in action after sitting out the past two games. Blais hasn't been a fantasy factor at all this season, collecting only five points in 30 games.

Alexis Lafreniere Enters COVID-19 Protocols

New York Rangers forward Alexis Lafreniere has entered the NHL's COVID-19 protocols ahead of Thursday's game against the Sharks. The 20-year-old will miss the contest and as a result forward Lauri Pajuniemi has been recalled from the taxi squad. Lafreniere has scored eight goals and added three assists through 37 games, making the second-year forward a fantasy option only in the deepest of fantasy formats.

Alexis Lafreniere Posts Multi-Point Effort On Friday

New York Rangers forward Alexis Lafreniere collected two points (one goal, one assists) in his team's 4-1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday. The 19-year-old, who is looking more comfortable by the day as his rookie campaign comes to a close, also recorded a plus-one rating, two shots and one hit in 17:49 of ice time in the contest. As expected due to his youth, Lafreniere hasn't been very fantasy relevant in his debut campaign but has flashed the tremendous offensive skill that made him the first overall draft pick before the season. He's posted 16 points (nine goals, seven assists), 58 shots and 37 hits in 48 games in 2020-2021 and should take another leap forward next season.
