Quinn Hughes Enters Olympics in Red-Hot Form

Minnesota Wild defenseman Quinn Hughes is set to be one of the standout players at the 2026 Olympic tournament. The American blue-liner has been in great form recently, setting a new Wild record for the longest assist streak by a defenseman. Hughes has had at least one helper in 10 consecutive appearances. This has also made him the first defenseman in NHL history with an assist streak of at least 10 games in his first season with a franchise. Thanks to his impressive playmaking ability, Hughes is tied with Tampa Bay's Nikita Kucherov for the longest active point streak in the NHL. Overall, Hughes has tallied 31 assists and 34 points in 26 appearances with the Wild, averaging a massive 28:18 of ice time. He is also set to eat up a lot of ice time on Team USA's blue line, along with Columbus' Zach Werenski and Boston's Charlie McAvoy.

Matt Boldy Records Historically Fast Hat Trick Wednesday

Minnesota Wild winger Matt Boldy rocked the Nashville Predators with an early hat trick and a four-point performance in Wednesday's 6-5 overtime victory. The 24-year-old posted the fastest hat trick in franchise history to start a game, netting his third goal with just 12:58 played in the first period. Zach Parise held the previous record of 16:33, set in 2016. Boldy completed his big performance with an assist on Jared Spurgeon's game-winning goal late in overtime. The prolific winger became the sixth player in the league this season with at least 30 goals and 30 assists. He has managed 62 points (32 goals, 30 assists) in 54 contests. Boldy will now shift his attention to representing Team USA at the Olympics before continuing the season with the Wild on Feb. 25.

Marcus Foligno Out Wednesday Against Predators

Minnesota Wild left wing Marcus Foligno (illness) won't play on Wednesday against the Nashville Predators. The veteran forward will be unavailable for a second consecutive contest due to illness. Several Wild players have been under the weather recently, including Nico Strum, who returned from a one-game absence on Monday against Montreal to fill Foligno's spot in the lineup. Meanwhile, Jesper Wallstedt (illness) also remains unavailable on Wednesday night. Luckily for Minnesota, this will be the team's final game before the Olympic break, and they can get healthy over the next few weeks.

Quinn Hughes Records Hat Trick of Assists

Minnesota Wild defenseman Quinn Hughes recorded a hat trick of assists against the Montreal Canadiens on Monday night, playing a key role in a 4-3 overtime win. Hughes set up a pair of even-strength goals in regulation and helped Kirill Kaprizov end the game on the power play in overtime. On Monday, Hughes matched Kaprizov's franchise record with a nine-game assist streak. It also ties a league record for the longest assist streak by a defenseman in their first season with a franchise. Playing in his 484th career game, Hughes reached 400 assists with his final helper. Only the legendary Bobby Orr (437 games) and Paul Coffey (464 games) have reached 400 assists with fewer games among defensemen. Hughes is truly a special player, and he's had an incredible start in Minnesota, posting 32 points (three goals, 29 assists) in 25 outings.

Daemon Hunt Injured In Monday's Win

Minnesota Wild defenseman Daemon Hunt (upper body) was limited to three shifts and 1:52 of ice time in Monday's 4-3 overtime win against the Montreal Canadiens. He took a high stick to the neck from Canadiens forward Ivan Demidov. Fortunately, Hunt appears to have avoided a serious injury. According to Dylan Loucks of The Hockey News, Wild head coach John Hynes expects Hunt to be fine. Minnesota has one more game scheduled before the Olympic break, facing the Nashville Predators on Wednesday. Hunt has recently impressed on the Wild defense, covering for injured veterans Jonas Brodin (lower body) and Zach Bogosian (lower body). The latter was able to return from a 13-game absence on Monday, bumping David Jiricek from the lineup.

Jonas Brodin to Miss 6-8 Weeks

Minnesota Wild defenseman Jonas Brodin (lower body) will be sidelined for 6-8 weeks, Joe Smith of The Athletic reports. The recovery timeline began last week. Brodin was already ruled out for the Olympics, and it looks like he will also miss some time after the tournament. Minnesota's blue line is without Zach Bogosian (lower body) as well, leaving the defense without two seasoned veterans. In his 14th NHL campaign, Brodin has recorded 15 points (three goals, 12 assists), 43 shots, and 91 blocks in 42 games. Recent injuries in the Wild's backline have given Daemon Hunt and David Jiricek regular opportunities to play.

Matt Boldy Expected to Return Saturday Night

Minnesota Wild winger Matt Boldy (lower body) is poised to rejoin the lineup on Saturday against the Florida Panthers. "Boldy, I would anticipate playing tonight," Wild head coach John Hynes said after the morning skate. Boldy, who has missed four games due to a lower-body injury, worked with Marcus Johansson and Joel Eriksson Ek during the session. The Wild have seen Boldy take a significant leap in 2025-26, averaging more than a point per game. He has contributed 27 goals and 24 assists in 48 appearances. The 24-year-old shares the team lead in goals with Kirill Kaprizov and ranks second to the Russian forward in points.

Quinn Hughes Makes History With Three-Assist Effort

Minnesota Wild defenseman Quinn Hughes set up three goals, including Kirill Kaprizov's game-winner, in Thursday's 4-3 overtime victory against the Detroit Red Wings. The star blue-liner also helped Kaprizov net a power-play goal in the first period and assisted Mats Zuccarello early in the third frame. Amazingly, despite this being only his 20th appearance for the team, Hughes already matched a franchise record for the most three-assist games in a single season. It was his fourth hat trick of assists with the Wild. Overall, Hughes has posted 24 points (two goals, 22 assists) in 20 games since moving to Minnesota. He has finished six of his outings with multiple points, including three of the last four.

Joel Eriksson Ek, Marcus Johansson Could Return Thursday

Minnesota Wild forwards Joel Eriksson Ek (lower body) and Marcus Johansson (lower body) skated on Thursday morning and could return to the lineup against the Detroit Red Wings. Eriksson Ek has sat out six games due to a lower-body injury and must be activated from Injured Reserve to return. Johansson has been dealing with a lower-body injury as well, missing three games. If they are ready to return, Eriksson Ek and Johansson are expected to join the second line and link up with Vladimir Tarasenko, who has been red-hot lately. Over the last four games, Tarasenko has notched five goals and three assists.

Jonas Brodin Will Miss Olympics

Minnesota Wild defenseman Jonas Brodin (lower body) will not play for Team Sweden at the 2026 Olympics, Michael Russo of The Athletic reports. He will miss a fourth consecutive game on Tuesday night against the Montreal Canadiens and won't rejoin the lineup until after the 2026 Olympic Games. It's a bad blow for the Swedes and the Wild. Brodin has made 42 appearances this season, recording 15 points (three goals, 12 assists) and 91 blocks. The Wild defense is currently also without Zach Bogosian (undisclosed), but he could be an option for the team later this week. In the meantime, David Jiricek will eat up minutes on the third defensive pairing with Daemon Hunt.

Matt Boldy Placed on Injured Reserve

Minnesota Wild winger Matt Boldy (undisclosed) was placed on Injured Reserve on Friday. This was unexpected, given that Boldy logged his usual ice time during Thursday's 6-2 defeat against the Winnipeg Jets. Boldy posted an assist on Thursday, boosting his total for the season to 51 points (27 goals, 24 assists) in 48 games. Sadly, he won't get a chance to add to his tally for a bit. Joel Eriksson Ek (lower body), who has missed three games, was also moved to Injured Reserve on Friday. The team added Nicolas Aube-Kubel and Hunter Haight to the roster from the minors. Boldy's departure from the lineup opens a top-six opportunity for Vladimir Tarasenko.

Joel Eriksson Ek Misses Third Straight Game Thursday

Minnesota Wild center Joel Eriksson Ek (lower body) will remain on the shelf for a third straight contest on Thursday against the Winnipeg Jets. He skated on his own Thursday morning and remains day-to-day. Eriksson Ek is expected to travel with the team and could be an option on Saturday afternoon against the Buffalo Sabres. Danila Yurov will continue as the first-line center against the Jets, while Ryan Hartman has moved to the second line in Eriksson Ek's absence. Hartman has been on a bit of a heater lately, scoring in three of the last four games.

Jonas Brodin Placed on Injured Reserve, Out Week-to-Week

Minnesota Wild defenseman Jonas Brodin (lower body) is considered week-to-week and was moved to Injured Reserve on Thursday. The Swedish blue-liner is dealing with a lower-body issue and could miss the Olympics because of the injury. Brodin has recently improved his offensive production, reaching 15 points (three goals, 12 assists) for the season. Additionally, he has recorded 43 shots and 91 hits in 42 appearances, posting a plus-15 rating. While Minnesota added Carson Lambos to the roster on Thursday with a call-up from the minors, David Spacek is expected to take Brodin's spot in the lineup against the Winnipeg Jets. The 22-year-old will make his NHL debut after amassing 19 points (three goals, 16 assists) in 35 AHL appearances this season.

Joel Eriksson Ek Out Monday

Minnesota Wild center Joel Eriksson Ek (lower body) will remain sidelined on Monday against the New Jersey Devils. The Swedish forward suffered a lower-body injury last week and will be out for a second consecutive game. With Eriksson Ek out of commission, Ryan Hartman has joined the top six, while Danila Yurov continues to center the first line. Both players were kept off the score sheet in Saturday's 4-3 overtime loss to the New York Islanders. However, Hartman, who is also part of the first power-play unit, has seen some offensive success lately. Prior to Saturday night, he had scored in back-to-back games.

Joel Eriksson Ek Out Day-to-Day

Minnesota Wild center Joel Eriksson Ek (undisclosed) was labeled day-to-day after his early exit from Thursday's win over the Seattle Kraken. He left the game in the second period with an undisclosed injury. Fortunately, he avoided a major injury and could be ready to play on Saturday against the New York Islanders. In 45 appearances, Eriksson Ek has posted 32 points (11 goals, 21 assists) and 68 hits, ranking among the top three on the team in both categories. If Eriksson Ek can't play this weekend, Ryan Hartman may get a fresh opportunity in the top six.

Zach Bogosian  • D  •  Wild

Zach Bogosian Unavailable Monday Night

Minnesota Wild defenseman Zach Bogosian (lower body) will sit out Monday's contest against the Los Angeles Kings. The veteran blue-liner took a shot to his foot on Saturday against the Kings and will miss at least one game. Unfortunately, Bogosian has had trouble with injuries all season, making only 23 appearances. He has registered four points (one goal, three assists), 20 shots, 20 blocks, and 20 hits with a plus-four rating. Matt Kiersted is projected to fill Bogosian's spot on the third defensive pairing on Monday. So far this season, Kiersted has appeared in only three games and holds no fantasy value.

Danila Yurov Scores Twice in Friday's Win

Minnesota Wild forward Danila Yurov lit the lamp two times in Friday's 5-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks. He put Minnesota 2-0 up in the second period and potted the team's fourth goal early in the third. On Friday, the Russian rookie had more goals than in his previous 16 appearances combined. After returning to the top six, he could find more success at the start of 2026. Yurov's overall tally for his first NHL year reads six goals and nine points in 35 games. He is tied for sixth among rookies with 14 even-strength points.

Marcus Johansson Matches Career High With Four-Point Effort

Minnesota Wild left wing Marcus Johansson was on fire Monday night against the Vegas Golden Knights, producing four points in a 5-2 road win. He opened the scoring just 26 seconds into the contest and notched a hat trick of assists. With the four-point effort, the Swedish veteran matched his career high from March 2017. Sitting on 32 points (12 goals, 20 assists) through 38 games, Johansson now needs just three more points to surpass his scoring total from last season. He could very well have the best campaign of his career as a 35-year-old, as Johansson has previously never reached the 60-point plateau. Currently, he is on pace for a 66-point year.

Zach Bogosian Unavailable Saturday

Minnesota Wild defenseman Zach Bogosian (lower body) will be absent for a third straight contest on Saturday against the Edmonton Oilers. The towering blue-liner is nursing a lower-body injury and is considered day-to-day. Bogosian's next chance to return will be on Sunday against the Colorado Avalanche. Matt Kiersted and David Jiricek have seen regular action recently, as several injuries have struck the team's defense. Jonas Brodin (lower body), Jacob Middleton (upper body), and Daemon Hunt (lower body) have all been on the shelf, along with Bogosian. On Friday, Minnesota reassigned Carson Lambos to the minors, suggesting that one of the defensemen could be ready to return from the infirmary.

Marcus Johansson Questionable for Saturday

Minnesota Wild left wing Marcus Johansson (lower body) is considered questionable for Saturday's matchup against the Edmonton Oilers. The Swedish veteran may miss a third consecutive game due to a lower-body injury. Johansson has had an impressive campaign, scoring 26 points (11 goals, 15 assists) and logging a team-best plus-15 rating in 33 appearances. Minnesota's frontline has also been without Mats Zuccarello (upper body) and Vinnie Hinostroza (upper body) recently. As a result of the injuries, Yakov Trenin has joined the top six. Trenin finished Thursday's 5-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets with two assists, but he isn't a consistent contributor on the offensive end.
