Jeff Petry Sits Out Friday's Contest

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Jeff Petry will be a healthy scratch for Friday's matchup against Toronto. He comes out of the lineup after amassing a minus-three rating across the past three games. The entire campaign has been a struggle for Petry, who's produced only one assist in nine games. The Red Wings will insert Justin Holl back into the lineup. Holl has recorded one assist in seven outings this season. He has failed to hit the 14-minute mark in three consecutive appearances but should play a bigger role on Friday as Ben Chiarot's partner on the second defensive pairing. With that said, Holl has zero fantasy value, and managers should look elsewhere for reinforcements at the back.

Jeff Petry Ready To Return On Saturday

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Jeff Petry (upper body) is set to rejoin the lineup on Saturday versus Nashville. The veteran has missed three games after getting hurt in the team's season-opener against Pittsburgh on Oct. 10. Erik Gustafsson is expected to be scratched for the contest to accommodate Petry's return. Petry's productivity dropped off significantly in 2023-24 as he settled for 24 points (three goals, 21 assists) in 73 games with 134 blocks and 150 hits. He'll be 37 soon and doesn't appear to have much gas left.

Jeff Petry Sustains An Upper-Body Injury In Season Opener

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Jeff Petry was forced to exit Thursday's season opener against Pittsburgh early due to an upper-body injury. He was ruled out for the rest of the game early in the third period. Petry finished scoreless and had one shot with one hit and a minus-one rating across 9:34 of action. The veteran skated on the second defensive pairing. Albert Johansson looks set to hop into the lineup to replace him on Saturday versus Nashville if Petry is sidelined. The 23-year-old has yet to make his NHL debut but has shown good ability in the minors, collecting 21 points (six goals, 15 assists) in 66 appearances last season.

Jeff Petry Expected To Return On Saturday

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Jeff Petry (upper body) is set to rejoin the lineup for Saturday's battle with the Bruins. He has missed the team's last two games with an upper-body problem. Before getting hurt, Petry skated in four games with the Red Wings, notching two assists. Based on Friday's practice, Olli Maatta is scheduled to be a healthy scratch on Saturday, with Petry joining Ben Chiarot on the second defensive pairing. The veteran blue-liner is also slated to skate with the second power-play unit.

Jeff Petry Dealing With An Upper-Body Injury

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Jeff Petry is battling an upper-body injury and won't feature Tuesday against Seattle. The veteran rearguard will sit out his third game already this season after being scratched for a couple of games. Petry is considered day-to-day by the team. His fantasy value already took a hit when it turned out that Detroit doesn't see Petry as a regular in the lineup anymore, and the injury is another blow to his stock. Petry's next opportunity to jump back into the lineup comes on Thursday against Winnipeg. Forward Klim Kostin (undisclosed) will also remain out on Tuesday.

Jeff Petry Sits Out Sunday

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Jeff Petry will once again come out of the lineup Sunday when the team hosts Calgary. He was a healthy scratch Monday versus Columbus and now sits for maintenance reasons. Petry was reinserted into the lineup Wednesday against Pittsburgh, and he had a very good outing with two assists. The veteran blue-liner then played on Friday against Ottawa, but he won't be counted on for Sunday's tilt. Jonatan Berggren will take Petry's spot in the team as Detroit goes back to 12 forwards.

Jeff Petry A Healthy Scratch Monday

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Jeff Petry will be a healthy scratch for Monday's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Wings went with seven defensemen in their first two games of the season, but have decided to go with a more typical 12 forward, six d-men approach for Monday's game. Austin Czarnik will replace Petry and play on the fourth line. Petry was traded to the Wings from the Montreal Canadiens in the summer in a deal that was mostly about Montreal gaining some cap space. Petry will likely get into most games for Detroit, but he is clearly not the same guy he was just a few years ago and doesn't need to be rostered in any fantasy leagues.

Canadiens Trade Jeff Petry To The Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings have acquired defenseman Jeff Petry in a trade with the Montreal Canadiens, giving up depth defenseman Gustav Lindstrom and a conditional fourth-round draft pick in 2025. Montreal also retains 50 percent of Petry's salary as part of the deal. The trade was announced less than two weeks after the Canadiens reacquired Petry from the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he spent only one season. A third trade in 13 months has led to somewhat of a homecoming for Petry, who was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan and played for Michigan State University. The 35-year-old had a decent 31-point campaign with 61 games played in 2023-24, and he should still provide quality minutes for a Red Wings team that will hope to avoid an eighth consecutive season without making it into the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Canadiens Expected To Move Jeff Petry On

Veteran defenseman Jeff Petry rejoined the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday in a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins and San Jose Sharks, but according to Sportsnet's Eric Engels, it's likely that he doesn't start the season with the team. Engels added that the Penguins have already paid Petry his $3 million signing bonus for the season and the Canadiens can retain 50 percent of his salary in a potential trade. Petry spent seven and a half seasons in Montreal before getting traded to Pittsburgh last July. He had a decent campaign with the team, recording 31 points (five goals, 26 assists) in 61 games with 111 blocks and 190 hits, but the Penguins upgraded him with reigning Norris Trophy winner Erik Karlsson in the trade. Petry is set to start the third season of a four-year, $25 million pact signed with the Canadiens in 2020.

Jeff Petry A Game-Time Decision For Tuesday

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Jeff Petry (upper body) is regarded as a game-time decision for Tuesday's contest against Detroit. The veteran has been unavailable for the past five games while trying to recover from an upper-body issue. The Penguins would love to get Petry back, with the team's blue line down to bare bones. Marcus Pettersson (lower body), Dmitry Kulikov (lower body) and Jan Rutta (lower body) all remain on the shelf Tuesday. All the injuries mean that Petry should play a very large role at the back if he's cleared to return.

Jeff Petry Exits With An Upper-Body Injury

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Jeff Petry was able to play just 1:32 in Thursday's clash with the Rangers, exiting the game with an upper-body injury. He couldn't carry on after taking an elbow to the face from Rangers forward Tyler Motte. It's the second game in a row Petry has been forced to cut short due to as injury. The team didn't have an update on him after the game. Petry needs to recover by Saturday if he doesn't want to miss any games. If he isn't feeling well enough to take part in a rematch with the Rangers, Chad Ruhwedel should enter the lineup.

Jeff Petry Good To Go Thursday

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Jeff Petry (undisclosed) will play Thursday against the Rangers. He left Tuesday's clash with Montreal early due to an undisclosed injury, but it appears that it was only a minor issue. Petry logs big minutes on the Penguins blue line and has made himself useful all over the ice this season, posting 26 points in 51 games with 100 shots, 167 hits and 86 blocks. Jan Rutta, who also left early against Montreal with an undisclosed ailment, is good to go as well Thursday.

Jeff Petry Under Evaluation Following Tuesday's Exit

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Jeff Petry exited Tuesday's game against Montreal with an undisclosed injury. It was an awful night all around for him, as Petry was minus-three in the contest across 14:52 of action. Follow blue-liner Jan Rutta was also hurt, leaving the Penguins with four defensemen. Both players are currently being evaluated to determine the severity of their injuries. Petry would be a great loss for the team, as the veteran has been very effective at both ends of the ice, notching 26 points in 51 games with 167 hits and 86 blocks. Pittsburgh returns to the ice Thursday against the Rangers and there should be more known about Petry's and Rutta's condition by then.

Jeff Petry Contributes Offensively In Victory

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Jeff Petry scored two goals in the second period of Thursday's 5-4 overtime victory against the Lightning. The goals were Petry's fourth and fifth of the season, as the veteran defenseman has not been able to provide the offense that he displayed when he had double-digit goal totals for four consecutive seasons with the Canadiens. Petry can still contribute to fantasy managers across standard formats while playing on the second defensive pairing and power play unit for the Penguins.

Jeff Petry A Game-Time Call Friday

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Jeff Petry (upper body) has been activated from Injured Reserve and is a game-time decision for Friday's clash with the Senators. The veteran has been out with an upper-body injury since Dec. 10 but appears to be on track to return Friday. Petry boasts 12 points from 28 outings this season with 44 shots, 89 hits, 54 blocks and a plus-four rating. With Kris Letang (lower body) still unavailable, Petry is set to be Pittsburgh's No. 1 defenseman for the time being, and he should be a nice addition to any fantasy team.

Jeff Petry Out On Monday

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Jeff Petry will miss Monday's meeting with Dallas because of an upper-body injury. Various reports suggest that the injury is related to his left arm. Petry, who has recorded 12 points in 28 games this season, will sit out his first match of the campaign. With Kris Letang recently missing time because of a stroke, the Penguins blue line seems incapable of being healthy. The team did well to cover for Letang but making up for Petry is yet another challenge. The veteran averages over 22 minutes per game, and in addition to his offensive play, Petry has also made an enormous impact defensively with 89 hits and 54 blocks.

Jeff Petry Traded To Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired defenseman Jeff Petry and forward Ryan Poehling from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for defenseman Mike Matheson and a fourth-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft. Petry's production declined during the 2021-22 NHL season as the 34-year-old scored six goals and finished with 27 points, ending a streak of four consecutive seasons of 40-plus points and double-digit goal totals. Petry has three years remaining on his four-year, $25 million contract, and the veteran defenseman will gain fantasy value from his move to the Penguins heading into the upcoming season.

Jeff Petry A Game-Time Decision For Saturday

Montreal Canadiens defenseman Jeff Petry (lower body) could return to action Saturday against Toronto and is officially regarded as a game-time decision. The veteran rearguard has sat out seven games. Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports has reported that Petry will play, so it appears that it's very likely that he will be back in the lineup. Things haven't gone according to plan for the 34-year-old this season, with him boasting just 16 points in 57 games. He's done better defensively, recording 124 hits and 93 blocks.

Jeff Petry Ruled Out Indefinitely

Montreal Canadiens defenseman Jeff Petry has been ruled out indefinitely with a lower-body injury. He was hurt in Thursday's 4-3 loss to Florida and the veteran rearguard could now very well be done for the season, with only a month to go and the Canadiens having nothing to play for. The team also ruled out Jonathan Drouin (upper body) indefinitely on Friday. Petry set himself very high standards last season and hasn't lived up to them in 2021-22, posting only 16 points across 57 outings.

Jeff Petry Questionable For Wednesday's Game

Montreal Canadiens defenseman Jeff Petry (upper body) is questionable for Wednesday's road outing against Vancouver. The veteran blue-liner has been practicing in a non-contact jersey, which is a pretty bad sign regarding his status for the game. He's officially regarded as day-to-day by the team. Petry has been playing his best hockey of the season as of late, contributing well at both ends of the ice. Seven of his 13 points have come across the last nine games. His absence will be a big blow for the defense, but at least Montreal's offense is getting a bit of a boost Wednesday night, as Jake Evans (upper body) is ready to return after a one-game absence.
