Marc Staal To Miss Multiple Weeks With Upper-Body Injury
Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Marc Staal is set to miss weeks with an upper-body injury sustained in Thursday's 4-1 win over the visiting Edmonton Oilers. Staal was tripped up by a falling Warren Foegele in the second period and did not return for the third period. According to Flyers head coach John Tortorella, Staal is out 'weeks', likely in the four-to-six-weeks range. The veteran rearguard signed a one-year, $1.1 million contract with the Flyers in free agency this summer and is without a point with three shots, six blocks, and four penalty minutes across four games so far this season. As he has been throughout his career, Staal remains well off the fantasy radar given his defense-first approach.
Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Marc Staal (upper-body) will be out for four-to-six weeks after colliding awkwardly into the boards in Thursday's game. The Flyers are already lacking depth on the back end and this injury doesn't help. Fortunately, Rasmus Ristolainen (undisclosed) is closing in on a return to the lineup and will take Staal's spot. For fantasy, Staal's absence won't change much as he wasn't on either powerplay unit and didn't produce much fantasy value.
Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Marc Staal suffered an upper-body injury in Thursday's 4-1 win over Edmonton. He headed for the exit following a collision with Oilers forward Warren Foegele. The veteran blue-liner soaked in 7:24 of action before the incident and collected one blocked shot to his name. Staal has started his first season in Philadelphia riding with Sean Walker on the second defensive pairing. He has gone scoreless in four games but boasts two hits and six blocks. Egor Zamula is in line to hop into the lineup if Staal isn't good to go Saturday versus Dallas.
Marc Staal Agrees To Contract To Remain In Detroit
Detroit Red Wings defenseman Marc Staal signed a one-year contract to continue playing in Hockeytown. The financial details of the agreement were not disclosed. Staal would have hit the unrestricted free agent market Wednesday if the two sides didn't reach a deal. Through 56 regular-season contests in 2021, the Thunder Bay, Ontario native produced three goals and seven assists. He skated on the team's third defenseman pairing last season. Despite having a solid NHL career, mostly with the Rangers, the 34-year-old will not play much of a factor in fantasy play come October.
