Mark Giordano Plans To Continue Playing

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Mark Giordano is planning to continue his playing career. "Mark has made the decision that he's playing for a few more years," said Giordano's agent, Rich Winter, to Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star. "He feels very confident. He's been talking to a lot of people who tell him: Don't quit until they make you." Giordano was the oldest player in the NHL this season, having turned 40 in early October. Playing out the final season of a two-year, $1.6 million contract, the veteran contributed three goals and six assists in 46 games while registering 86 blocks and 51 hits.

Mark Giordano Out With Concussion

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Mark Giordano has suffered a concussion and will be "out some time," according to Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving. "He was in rough shape last night, doing better after the game... doing well today," the executive added. The 40-year-old was injured when he crashed hard into the end boards while jumping up in an offensive rush during the Maple Leafs' 4-2 win over the visiting Arizona Coyotes. The veteran has also missed time with a finger injury this season and has recently been in and out of the lineup as a healthy scratch. He has one goal and seven points in 38 games with 76 blocks and 33 penalty minutes in that time.

Mark Giordano Suffers Head Injury Thursday

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Mark Giordano suffered a head injury when he crashed into the end boards while jumping up on a rush in the first period of Thursday's 4-2 win over the Arizona Coyotes. It's been a difficult season for the NHL's oldest player as the 40-year-old also missed time earlier in the season with a finger injury and has been held out of the lineup as a healthy scratch of late. Off the ice, he recently suffered the loss of his father. The 18-year NHL veteran has tallied one goal and seven points on the season in 17:03 of average ice time per game. He also has 76 blocks and 33 penalty minutes in that time. The Toronto native won the Norris Trophy in the 2018-19 season with the Calgary Flames when he recorded 17 goals and 74 points across 78 games played.

David Kampf, Mark Giordano To Return For Maple Leafs Tuesday

The Toronto Maple Leafs will get a pair of injured veterans back on Tuesday as center David Kampf (undisclosed) and defenseman Mark Giordano will return for a clash with the visiting St. Louis Blues. Kampf hasn't played since the club's final game prior to the All-Star break due to an undisclosed injury. The bottom-six pivot has notched four goals and eight points across 46 games this season after recording a career-high 27 points while skating in all 82 games last season. Giordano, the league's oldest player, sat out Saturday's loss versus the Ottawa Senators. The former Flames captain has recorded one goal and six points on the season but has also recorded 72 blocks in 34 games. The team also announced defenseman Conor Timmins will be out indefinitely due to mononucleosis.

Mark Giordano Out On Saturday

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Mark Giordano (lower body) won't play on Saturday against Ottawa. The veteran was hurt in the last game on Wednesday versus Dallas. Though 34 games this season, Giordano has contributed one goal and five assists, along with 34 hits and 72 blocks. William Lagesson will fill in for Giordano, who is considered day-to-day, although head coach Sheldon Keefe believes Giordano might be out for a bit longer than that.

Mark Giordano Will Sit On Sunday

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Mark Giordano won't play against Detroit on Sunday. The veteran will be replaced by Conor Timmins, who will make his first appearance since Dec. 21. Giordano boasts six points (one goal, five assists) through 28 outings this season with 36 shots on goal, 29 hits, and 59 blocks. His best days are clearly behind him, but Giordano can still play an effective game. However, he gets the night off on Sunday to incorporate Timmins into the lineup. The 25-year-old has posted six points (one goal, five assists) in 13 games but struggled badly in his last outing, finishing a 9-3 loss to Buffalo with a minus-four rating in 12:29 of action.

Mark Giordano Week-To-Week With Broken Finger

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Mark Giordano is listed as week to week with a broken finger, according to head coach Sheldon Keefe. Giordano left the ice favoring his hand during the first period of Tuesday's win over the Florida Panthers and did not return to the game. He had already been ruled out for Thursday night's game against the Seattle Kraken but will seemingly miss an extended stretch of time. It's another blow to a Maple Leafs blueline that is without top-four defender Timothy Liljegren as well as John Klingberg. The veteran rearguard has recorded one goal and four points in 20 games this season but has also blocked 50 shots, good for a share of 21st in the league.

Mark Giordano To Miss Extended Time After Blocking Shot Off Hand

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Mark Giordano (hand) left Tuesday's game early after blocking a shot and will miss some time, according to head coach Sheldon Keefe. This is just another blow for a Leafs defensive core that is already missing Timothy Liljegren and John Klingberg. Giordano isn't the same defender he once was, but he still had five points, 25 shots on goal, 24 hits, and 50 blocked shots in 20 games, providing some value in deeper leagues. William Lagesson will probably fill in for Giordano while he is out.

Mark Giordano Rested On Saturday

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Mark Giordano will come out of the lineup for Saturday's meeting with Ottawa. The veteran will sit out the contest as a healthy scratch after having so far featured in every game this season. Erik Gustafsson is also getting rested for the contest. Following the trade deadline, the Maple Leafs are stacked at the back, so head coach Sheldon Keefe can take Giordano out of the lineup without too much worry. Justin Holl, who sat out Friday's game against Carolina, will come back in, and Wayne Simmonds will also see the ice for the first time in a long while.

Mark Giordano Becomes NHL's All-Time Blocks Leader

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Mark Giordano made history in Sunday's 5-1 win over Seattle, becoming the NHL's all-time leader in blocked shots. He had two of them in the game to make it 2,046 blocked shots in 1,084 games for his career. Kris Russell previously held the record with 2,044 blocks. The NHL started tracking blocked shots in 2005-06. Giordano also made an impact offensively on Sunday, scoring his fourth goal of the season. In 60 outings, the veteran rearguard has also added 14 assists and boasts 115 blocks for the whole campaign with a plus-24 rating.

Mark Giordano Signs Two-Year Contract With Maple Leafs

Defenseman Mark Giordano has signed a two-year, $1.6 million contract with the Maple Leafs on Sunday. The deal has an average annual value of $800,000, as the 38-year-old blueliner could have become an unrestricted free agent in July. Giordano was traded to the Maple Leafs ahead of the NHL trade deadline in March, and the veteran defenseman contributed two goals, 10 assists, and a plus-12 rating in 20 regular season games on the contending club. In the first round series of the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Lightning, Giordano recorded two assists through seven games. Giordano is no longer the fantasy contributor which he once was during his time with the Flames, but the former Norris Trophy winner can provide value in deeper formats as a member of the Maple Leafs for the upcoming season.

Mark Giordano Scores First Goal With Maple Leafs

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Mark Giordano found the back of the net for his first goal as a member of the team in Thursday's 7-3 victory against the Jets. Giordano added an assist in the victory, as he contributed to Timothy Liljegren's power play goal with under two minutes remaining in the game. Giordano should be rostered across standard formats for the fantasy playoffs after the trade to the Maple Leafs ahead of the NHL trade deadline.

Mark Giordano Traded To Toronto

Seattle Kraken defenseman Mark Giordano has been traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs along with forward Colin Blackwell in exchange for a 2022 second-round pick, 2023 second-round pick and a 2024 third-round pick. Giordano is near the tail end of a long career but still has value for contending teams. He scored six goals and 23 points over 55 games this year with the expansion Kraken. Expect him to play big minutes for Toronto with the injury to Jake Muzzin weakening their defense. Giordano is a good pickup in many fantasy leagues and is currently 48% rostered. He will have an opportunity to increase his offensive contributions on the high-scoring Maple Leafs.

Mark Giordano Will Not Play On Saturday

Seattle Kraken defenseman Mark Giordano will be a healthy scratch for a second consecutive game in Saturday's contest against the Red Wings. With the trade deadline coming up on Monday, the Kraken captain will miss another game as he is gaining interest around the league as a result of the team's place in the standings and fact that he can become an unrestricted free agent after the season. Giordano has totaled six goals, 17 assists and 23 points through 55 games, and he will have increased fantasy value if he gets traded to a contender on Monday.

Mark Giordano Will Be Scratched For Wednesday

Seattle Kraken defenseman Mark Giordano will be a healthy scratch for Wednesday's matchup against the Lightning. The trade deadline is approaching and Seattle wants to protect the veteran blue-liner from a potential injury. Giordano has bags of experience and should draw plenty of interest from teams. He can play in every situation and has been a big piece for Seattle's defense all over the ice, recording 23 points, 46 hits and 98 blocks in 55 appearances this season. Haydn Fleury is set to replace Giordano in the lineup against Tampa.

Kraken Exploring Trade Options for Mark Giordano

The expansion Seattle Kraken club is going nowhere fast in the standings and the organization is considering moving its captain in the right deal. Defenseman Mark Giordano has been a solid player for the club in 2021-22, but at the age of 38, he's not in the organization's long-term plans. So far this season, he's recorded five goals and 22 points through 47 games. He's also playing more than 21 minutes per game and could still be a difference-maker in the playoffs as well as down the stretch for fantasy managers if he finds himself on the right club. After spending 15 years in Calgary, a move back to the Flames would make some sense if the clubs can make the money work.

Mark Giordano Turns Back The Clock On Thursday

Seattle Kraken defenseman Mark Giordano was pumped to play his former Calgary Flames once again. Giordano scored a goal and helped out on two others to give him a three-point night. It snapped a four-game point drought for the defenseman. His goal at 5:46 of the first period opened the scoring. Giordano added a power-play assist and then another on the Jared McCann goal that tied the game at 4. Giordano is 38 and most of his best offensive days are behind him. However, occasionally, the defender can just produce nights like this. His ability to find holes in a defense never vanished. He now has 11 points in 26 games. A strong 2022 is possible for the defenseman.

Mark Giordano Logs 19 Minutes In Comeback Game

Seattle Kraken defenseman Mark Giordano returned to action on Thursday after missing six games because of COVID-19 protocols, logging exactly 19 minutes of ice time in a 3-0 loss to Winnipeg. He finished the night with an even rating and recorded one shot and two blocks. The Kraken captain averages nearly 21 minutes for the season, so he was given a lighter load in his comeback game. Giordano is a fairly popular piece among fantasy managers, but the veteran blue-liner hasn't had a great campaign, going for seven points across 20 games with 40 shots and 31 blocks.

Mark Giordano Named First Captain For Kraken

The Seattle Kraken named defenseman Mark Giordano as the franchise's first ever captain on Monday. The 38-year-old, who had spent his entire 15-year NHL career in Calgary prior to getting selected by the Kraken in the expansion draft over the offseason, is expected to debut on the team's top defensive pair (alongside Adam Larsson) on Tuesday. Giordano (81% owned in Yahoo!) is coming off 26-point season (nine goals, 17 assists) in which he also posted a plus-five rating, 142 shots, 110 blocks and 51 hits in 56 games.

Mark Giordano Joins Kraken In Inaugural Season

Calgary Flames defenseman Mark Giordano was selected by Seattle in the 2021 expansion draft Wednesday. Like new Kraken forward Jordan Eberle, Giordano will bring some veteran leadership to the new franchise. At 37-years-old, the Toronto, Ontario native still logged a ton of ice time for the Flames playing 22:57 minutes per game. His point production has slipped, but he managed to register nine goals and 17 assists this past season. He skated on Calgary's second defenseman pairing playing alongside Rasmus Andersson. With Seattle electing to go with a younger defenseman group, Giordano could see a lot of ice time with the Kraken. Despite being on the tail end of his career, Mark Giordano is always a solid option as a draft pick for fantasy hockey in the 2021-22 season.
