Oliver Bjorkstrand Sustains Injury In Olympic Qualifier

Seattle Kraken winger Oliver Bjorkstrand sustained an unspecified injury playing for his native Denmark in a 2026 Olympic qualifying game on Thursday. However, Kraken general manager Ron Francis expects Bjorkstrand to be ready for training camp next month. Bjorkstrand has played out two solid campaigns in Seattle, recording 104 points (40 goals, 64 assists) across 163 outings. He led the team with 39 assists last season while adding 20 goals with 186 shots on net in 82 games. The nine-year veteran also topped the Kraken squad with 25 power-play points.

Matty Beniers Signs Seven-Year Extension With Kraken

Seattle Kraken center Matty Beniers has committed his long-term future to the franchise, inking a seven-year extension. The two sides came to an agreement on a deal that's worth close to $50 million, with the average annual value of the contract standing at $7.14 million. Beniers needed a new contract after having completed his entry-level deal. The 21-year-old has enjoyed a fruitful start to his NHL career, recording 103 points (42 goals, 61 assists) in 167 games. Beniers won the Calder Memorial Trophy as the league's best rookie in 2022-23. However, with the team struggling, Beniers' productivity dipped from 0.71 points per game to 0.48 last term. He will aim to produce a bounce-back year in 2024-25 under new head coach Dan Bylsma.

Shane Wright  • C  •  Kraken

Shane Wright Hopes To Lock Down Regular Role With Kraken

Seattle Kraken center Shane Wright aims to become a full-time NHLer in 2024-25. The fourth pick of the 2022 draft has been limited to only 16 appearances in two seasons since entering the league. Wright has had a tough time making an impact, notching just seven points (five goals, two assists). However, he finished last season on a high note, averaging a point per game in five April appearances, which has given him a belief that he can have a "prominent role" in the NHL. Wright's confidence is further boosted by the hiring of Dan Bylsma as the Kraken's new head coach. Playing under his guidance in the AHL, Wright logged 22 goals and 47 points in 59 games last season. He added 13 points (four goals, nine assists) in 12 playoff appearances.

Kraken Grab Brandon Montour With Seven-Year Deal

The Seattle Kraken have made a big splash in NHL free agency, signing defenseman Brandon Montour to a seven-year, $7.14 Million AAV deal. The 30-year-old earned this contract a few years ago when he obliterated his career highs in points, goals, and assists, posting 73 points (16 goals, 57 assists) in 80 games with the Florida Panthers in 2022-23. He wasn't as good last year, but still collected 33 points in 66 games. The Kraken will hope that he returns to his form from two years ago, but either way he should be a solid top-four option and will challenge Vince Dunn for powerplay time. It will be hard to navigate this competition for fantasy purposes, but both Dunn and Montour should be drafted in the 125-150 range.

Chandler Stephenson Heads To Seattle

The Seattle Kraken have signed center Chandler Stephenson to a seven-year deal worth $6.25 Million AAV. Stephenson will be signed through his age-37 season, giving him some long-term security. The silky centerman has put up some solid season in Vegas, collecting 215 points in 286 games in his last four seasons. He hasn't eclipsed the 65-point mark and likely tops out as a second-line player, but can still be a solid complimentary piece when surrounded by the right players. He shouldn't be drafted in fantasy until the very late stages in standard leagues.

Philipp Grubauer Establishes New Record With 39-Save Shutout

Seattle Kraken goaltender Philipp Grubauer had one of his most enjoyable nights at the office this season on Tuesday, shutting out Arizona in a 5-0 win. He recorded 39 saves, the most a Kraken goalie has ever had in a shutout. This was Grubauer's second shutout of the campaign. It's been a rocky road for the German, but Grubauer is finishing off the season strongly, as he's on a 4-1-0 run. Grubauer's overall record stands at 14-14-2, and he has allowed 2.81 goals with a .901 save percentage.

Joey Daccord Shuts Out Ducks

Seattle Kraken goaltender Joey Daccord needed only 12 saves on Tuesday to post his third shutout of the season in a 4-0 win over Anaheim. Eeli Tolvanen and Matty Beniers led the offense with three points each. Daccord had dropped four starts in a row before turning around his form on Tuesday. The three shutouts match a franchise record for a single campaign. 2023-24 has been a good year for Daccord, who sits on an 18-15-11 record and has allowed 2.42 goals with a .917 save percentage.

Eeli Tolvanen Collects Two Assists On Top Line Monday

Seattle Kraken winger Eeli Tolvanen finished with two assists as the team dropped a home game 6-2 against Buffalo on Monday. Tolvanen picked up his first helper with only 24 seconds played as Jordan Eberle scored, and his second assist came on a power-play goal by Matty Beniers at the 14:36 mark in the first period. Unfortunately for the Kraken, the offense then abandoned the team, allowing the Sabres to coast to victory. The two-assist effort doubled Tolvanen's points tally for the month. He's been slumping since mid-January, but Tolvanen could be ready to make a late scoring surge after earning himself a top-line role. The Finnish winger has 15 goals and 36 points in 67 games for the season.

Vince Dunn Getting Close To Return, Won't Play Tuesday

Seattle Kraken defenseman Vince Dunn (upper body) was skating in a regular jersey during morning practice but will not play on Tuesday. Dunn was injured last Monday when he was checked from behind hard into the boards and has now missed four games as a result. The good news is that he is likely to return soon, giving his fantasy owners a nice boost heading into their playoff matchups. Seattle's powerplay quarterback has 45 points (11 goals, 34 assists) in 57 games this year as he continues to prove himself as a high-end offensive defenseman.

Jaden Schwartz Injured In Friday's Loss

Seattle Kraken forward Jaden Schwartz suffered an upper-body injury in Friday's 3-0 loss to Winnipeg. The veteran got hurt early into the game, exiting after logging only 3:09 of ice time. Schwartz has been slumping for several weeks, but he's one of only five forwards on the team with double-digit goals and assists for the season. In 47 appearances, he's posted 11 goals and 12 assists. Andre Burakovsky might get a chance to rejoin the top six if Schwartz won't be available on Tuesday versus Vegas.

Jordan Eberle Inks Two-Year Extension With Kraken

The Seattle Kraken have locked up winger Jordan Eberle to a two-year contract extension that carries a $4.75 million average annual value. Eberle was either going to be signed to an extension or traded prior to Friday's 3 pm ET trade deadline as the Kraken are sellers given that they sit six points back of the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference with the Calgary Flames and St. Louis Blues also six points back. The veteran has recorded 14 goals and 37 points across 58 games on the season, his third with the Kraken after the team picked him from the New York Islanders in the expansion draft. He is just two games shy of playing in 1,000 career games.

Jared McCann Registers Three Points In Win Over Jets

Seattle Kraken forward Jared McCann was the main offensive catalyst against Winnipeg on Tuesday, factoring in three goals in a 4-3 road win. He potted a short-handed goal in the second period and added two assists to his tally, including a power-play helper when Andre Burakovsky scored the game-winner with only 2:39 remaining in regulation. McCann has been huge for Seattle lately, going on a scoring tear of 17 points (seven goals, 10 assists) in 12 games. With many forwards underperforming for the Kraken this year, McCann is dominating at the top of the team's goal-scoring charts with 27 markers and also leads the team in overall scoring with 52 points in 61 games.

Vince Dunn Exits Monday's Game With Undisclosed Injury

Seattle Kraken defenseman Vince Dunn sustained an undisclosed injury in Monday's 4-2 win over Calgary. He exited the contest in the third period after absorbing a hit from Flames forward Martin Pospisil. Dunn put in a big performance in the win, posting one assist and recording two blocks with a plus-four rating. The talented blue-liner leads the Kraken with 34 assists and has amassed 45 total points in 57 outings. Seattle will be back at it on Tuesday against the Jets, and it's unclear if Dunn will be available for the game.

Philipp Grubauer Shuts The Door On Penguins

Seattle Kraken goaltender Philipp Grubauer kept the Pittsburgh Penguins from scoring on Thursday, finishing a 2-0 victory with 33 saves. He got to celebrate his first shutout of the campaign. It's been another season full of misery for Grubauer, but he had a great time in February, logging four wins in five appearances. The improved form has pushed Grubauer's record to 9-9-1. He has allowed 2.89 goals with a .899 save percentage. The German netminder appears to have the hot hands right now and could frustrate a few more teams in the near future.

Andre Burakovsky Questionable For Thursday

Seattle Kraken winger Andre Burakovsky (undisclosed) missed Wednesday's practice, leaving him with a question mark ahead of Thursday's matchup versus Pittsburgh. Kraken head coach Dave Hakstol noted that it was a maintenance day for Burakovsky but also added that there was "a reason" the Swedish forward wasn't out on the ice. Health issues have already robbed Burakovsky of 31 games in 2023-24. He hasn't really performed up to his standards either when available, scoring only once and posting nine points in 27 games. Tye Kartye worked in Burakovsky's spot on the third line Wednesday.

Jared McCann Records Career-High Four Points

Seattle Kraken forward Jared McCann recorded a new career high with four points in Thursday's impressive 5-2 victory over the league-leading Canucks. He had one goal and three assists in the contest, matching a franchise record for most points in a game. McCann also set a new Kraken record in the contest with his ninth power-play goal of the campaign -- it marks the most power-play markers a Kraken player has scored across a single season. Following a slow start, McCann has crushed it in recent weeks and is leading Seattle in goals (25) and points (45).

Jared McCann Scores Twice In Losing Effort

Seattle Kraken forward Jared McCann had two goals in Monday's painful 4-3 overtime loss against the Red Wings. With McCann in top form in front of the net, the Kraken tied the game three times but couldn't find the game-winner. McCann potted his first goal in a power-play situation. The 27-year-old has been producing some hot stuff over the last six weeks, going on a run of 10 goals and nine assists in 15 games. He leads Seattle with 24 goals and is tied for the first spot with 41 points.

Matty Beniers Posts Season-High Three Points In Victory

Seattle Kraken center Matty Beniers finished with a goal and two assists in Thursday's 4-1 victory against the Bruins. The three-point night was the first of the season for Beniers, who has struggled with consistency throughout his third year in the league. The 21-year-old has scored a goal in consecutive games after going pointless in seven straight games prior to the stretch, while the young center has totaled eight goals and 23 points through 49 games to limit his fantasy value in standard redraft formats.

Joey Daccord Impressive In Victory Against Bruins

Seattle Kraken goaltender Joey Daccord stopped 36-of-37 shots on goal in Thursday's 4-1 victory against the Bruins. Daccord surrendered an early first period goal to Bruins leading scorer David Pastrnak, but the Kraken netminder blanked the opposition for the remainder of the game to pick up his first victory since Jan. 28 against the Blue Jackets. Daccord is having a career-best season as the number one goaltender on the team, with a record of 16-11-9 to go along with a 2.33 goals against average, a .923 save percentage and two shutouts through 37 appearances.

Brian Dumoulin Set To Return Thursday

Seattle Kraken defenseman Brian Dumoulin (lower body) is expected to return to the lineup on Thursday against Boston. He was hurt Monday versus New Jersey and couldn't play a day later against the Islanders. However, Dumoulin has now recovered well enough to be considered for Thursday's game. Kraken head coach Dave Hakstol still wants to see how Dumoulin feels during the warm-ups, but he believes the veteran will be available. Dumoulin eats up minutes on the third defensive pairing and has recorded 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in 51 games with 53 hits and 49 blocks.
