Mike Smith Fails Physical, Heading To Long-Term Injured Reserve

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Mike Smith has failed his physical ahead of training camp and is set to go on long-term Injured Reserve. The veteran netminder battled through various injuries last term and he's not expected to feature at all during the upcoming season. The Oilers snapped up Jack Campbell on a five-year deal in the summer, and the former Maple Leaf looks set to get a lot of burn. He had a strong campaign in 2021-22 with a 31-9-6 record and a career-high five shutouts, but Campbell has also been injury-prone in the past few years, so it will be interesting to see how well he can cope with the heavy workload.

Mike Smith Likely To Start Tuesday

Edmonton Oilers goalie Mike Smith will be the probable starter in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals. Smith was lit up in Game 1, giving up six goals on 25 shots before being yanked midway through the contest in favor of 33-year-old Mikko Koskinen. The Kingston, Ontario, native has produced an 8-2-1 record with a 3.12 goals-against-average and a .917 save percentage. He's particularly struggled in Game 1's and has been able to bounce back as the last two series progressed. Colorado also has their goalie questions as starting goalie Darcy Kuemper went down with an upper-body injury, and backup Pavel Francouz will be between the pipes.

Mike Smith Pulled In Edmonton's Loss To Colorado

Edmonton Oilers goalie Mike Smith was pulled in the second period in an 8-6 loss to the Colorado Avalanche in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals. He was yanked early in the second period after giving up six goals on 25 Colorado shots on goal. Mikko Koskinen came in to replace the veteran netminder. Smith being pulled early in a series is becoming a common occurrence. In the second round against Calgary, Smith gave up three goals in six minutes in Game 1 of the series.

Mike Smith Enters Conference Finals With Four-Game Win Streak

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Mike Smith has had a few rough outings during the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs, but he's taking a four-game winning streak into the Western Conference Finals. The 40-year-old boasts an 8-3 record overall for the postseason with a 2.70 goals-against average, a .927 save percentage and two shutouts. Edmonton lost the regular-season series against Colorado 2-1, but Smith went a solid 1-0-1 in the matchup. It's a clash against a team that has scored 4.30 goals per game during the playoffs and the Oilers will need Smith to stand tall throughout the series.

Mike Smith Has Another Strong Showing In Game 3

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Mike Smith saved 32 of 33 shots as the team jumped to a 2-1 series lead against Calgary with a 4-1 win on Sunday. The veteran netminder appeared to have gotten injured in the middle of the third period when Smith exited the game after Milan Lucic crashed into him, but he was back a few minutes later to finish the game. Mikko Koskinen didn't have any shots to save in 4:15 of action. Smith started the series with a horrible performance as he allowed three goals on 10 shots in six minutes in Game 1, but he's bounced back in style, recording a 0.945 save percentage across the last two games. He's now 6-3 for the playoffs with a 2.55 goals-against average, a .933 save percentage and two shutouts.

Mike Smith Starts Game 2 For Oilers

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Mike Smith will get another start in Game 2 against Calgary. Head coach Jay Woodcroft is keeping faith in the veteran despite Smith having started off the series with a shocker. He lasted just six minutes in Game 1, giving up three goals on 10 shots. Smith's postseason has been full of up and downs as he's registered a 4-3 record. Game 1 was very rough for him, but Smith has actually been pretty effective with his work in the playoffs, recording a 2.68 goals-against average with a .930 save percentage and two shutouts.

Mike Smith Becomes Second Oilers Goalie With A Game 7 Shutout

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Mike Smith stopped all 29 shots in Saturday's 2-0 victory against Los Angeles, joining Curtis Joseph as the only netminders in franchise history to produce shutouts in a Game 7. Connor McDavid led the offense with a goal and an assist to finish the first round with 14 points, which marks the third-highest points tally ever in the opening round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Smith had an up-and-down ride throughout the series, but he was strong in the finishing part and that's all that matters. The veteran netminder had two shutouts in total in the series and finished it with a 2.29 goals-against average and a .938 save percentage.

Mike Smith Stays Hot With 30-Save Shutout

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Mike Smith recorded his first shutout of the season on Thursday, helping the team to a 4-0 win over Nashville with 30 saves. Leon Draisaitl took the plaudits with a hat trick, but Smith played a key role in the victory as well with 12 saves in the third period alone. The veteran netminder is now riding a nice six-game winning streak and has gone 7-1-1 in nine starts since the start of March. He has a 12-9-2 record overall for the campaign with a 3.04 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage. Smith has gone through some tough times over the course of the season, but he's finishing things off strong and patient fantasy managers are getting rewarded.

Mike Smith Misses Practice With An Illness

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Mike Smith wasn't on the ice for Sunday's practice because of an illness, and he should be considered questionable for Monday's Battle of Alberta against the Flames. Smith made his first start in three games on Saturday against Montreal and it didn't go well, as he surrendered four goals on 28 shots in a 5-2 loss. The veteran netminder is now winless in four consecutive starts. Mikko Koskinen had a tough time in his last start as well, so the Oilers could be in for a very long night on Monday. The club has also called up Stuart Skinner ahead of the game.

Mike Smith Expected To Miss 1-2 Weeks

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Mike Smith (thumb) will miss one to two weeks due to a partial tear in a tendon in his thumb, according to head coach Dave Tippett. Smith was expected to be the Oilers No. 1 goalie this season, but the 39-year-old has not been able to stay healthy and has been limited to only six appearances. Fantasy managers in deeper formats can look to add goaltender Stuart Skinner, who the Oilers will need production from while Smith is sidelined.

Mike Smith Faces Devils On Friday

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Mike Smith will start in Friday's matchup against New Jersey, making his second appearance since returning from a lower-body injury. Smith was back in action for the first time since October earlier in the week and couldn't make a winning return against St. Louis, giving up four goals with 33 shots. Friday's game looks a lot easier on the paper for Smith and it gives him a great chance to get back to winning ways. He's put together a 2-1-0 record in the few games he's had this season.

Mike Smith Makes His Long-Awaited Return

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Mike Smith will start Wednesday's matchup against St. Louis, making his first appearance since Oct. 19 when he went down with a lower-body injury. The veteran had a very good start to the season with a .920 save percentage and he enters Wednesday's game with a 2-0-0 record. Smith will get a huge test straight away, facing a team that boasts an 11-3-2 home record. The Blues are back healthy again as well, which will make this one even tougher for the Oilers, who themselves haven't been very convincing this month with only three wins in nine games.

Mike Smith Gets Placed On Injured Reserve

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Mike Smith (lower body) was placed on Injured Reserve on Wednesday and will miss the rest of the week. The move is retroactive to Oct. 19 when Smith exited a 6-5 win over Anaheim. He had a tough time in the contest, giving up four goals on 15 saves, but Mikko Koskinen came in to save the day. The Oilers face a back-to-back set starting with Thursday's visit to Arizona and it wouldn't be surprising to see Koskinen start both games. Stuart Skinner has been called up from the minors to serve as his backup.

Mike Smith Leads Oilers to Victory

Edmonton Oilers netminder Mike Smith made 36 saves in a 3-2 shootout victory over Vancouver on Wednesday. Smith compiled three key saves in overtime to send the contest to a shootout. The 39-year-old veteran stopped six shots coming from the Canucks top forward, Elias Pettersson, as the Oilers held him pointless in the season's first game for both teams. On Saturday, Smith should get the nod as Edmonton takes on Calgary. Last season, Smith played very well against the Flames, recording a 6-3-0 record. He will be a consistent producer for fantasy managers who have him on their roster especially backstopping a strong Edmonton Oilers club.

Mike Smith Gets The Nod On Wednesday

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Mike Smith will get the nod for the team's season opener on Wednesday against Vancouver. The veteran netminder will look to build on a very strong campaign. He went 21-6-2 last season with a 2.31 goals-against average, a .923 save percentage and three shutouts, making Mikko Koskinen's numbers look silly. With Brock Boeser (undisclosed) out for the Canucks, Smith will take on a weakened team, and he'll be disappointed if he doesn't start off the new season with a win.

Mike Smith Signs For Two More Years In Edmonton

Veteran goaltender Mike Smith signed a two-year extension with the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday. The length of the deal is somewhat surprising considering that he'll turn 40 years old during the 2021-22 season and may only be good for 40 games this season. Still, he had a strong showing in 2020-21 with a .923 save percentage and 2.31 GAA. The club also has Mikko Koskinen signed for the upcoming season at the cost of $4.5 million, although he had a disappointing year and limited upside at the age of 32. Of the two goalies, Smith has the higher fantasy value although he comes with significant risk given his age. The club's defensive core has also taken a hit in free agency with the loss of Adam Larsson to Seattle and likely more to come.

Mike Smith Minds The Crease On Wednesday

Edmonton Oilers netminder Mike Smith will start Wednesday against Montreal. At 39 years old, the veteran netminder is having a spectacular regular season. Through 31 games, he carries a 20-6-2 record with a 2.28 goals-against average and a .924 save percentage. He's recorded three shutouts and has won three of his last five starts. Edmonton and DFS participants have to hope Smith can turn his play around in the playoffs, though, as he lost his previous five starts going back to 2019.

Mike Smith Searches For 20th Win On Saturday

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Mike Smith will try to post his 20th win of the season in Saturday's home game against Vancouver. The veteran has gone 19-6-2 so far with a 2.26 goals-against average, a .925 save percentage and three shutouts. Smith hasn't lost any of his previous three starts against the Canucks this season, and he has a 16-11-2 career record against them with a 2.68 goals-against average, a .912 save percentage and four shutouts. He'll face Thatcher Demko in the opposite crease, who enters the matchup with a 13-16-1 record for the season.

Mike Smith Takes On Flames Saturday Night

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Mike Smith will be between the pipes for Saturday's home contest against the Flames. The veteran netminder took a 3-1 loss in his previous start against his former team on Thursday. Smith won four of the first five matchups against Calgary this season but has since then suffered back-to-back defeats, allowing eight goals on 62 shots. He boasts a 17-6-5 record for the year with a 2.35 goals-against average, a .922 save percentage and three shutouts. The Flames seem to have turned the tide in the matchup, but they have won only three of their last 11 visits to Edmonton, which bodes well for Smith here.

Mike Smith Looks To Continue Dominance Over Winnipeg

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Mike Smith will get a very favorable matchup on Wednesday as his squad visits the Jets, against whom the veteran netminder has posted four consecutive wins this season. Two of them have come over the last couple of weeks with Smith getting beaten just once in the games. He has put together a 17-5-2 record for the season with a 2.32 goals-against average, a .923 save percentage and three shutouts. Smith's most recent shutout was on April 17 against Winnipeg in a 3-0 win.
