T.J. Oshie To Begin Season On Long-Term Injured Reserve

Washington Capitals right wing T.J. Oshie (back) is set to begin the 2024-25 season on long-term Injured Reserve. The veteran has been troubled by back pain for several years. "The last season was challenging for me, my family, and my teammates as I dealt with a chronic back injury that kept me out of the lineup," Oshie said Wednesday. "I have used the offseason to explore and pursue long-term solutions for my injury. I remain committed to the process and am working and doing my best to regain total health." Oshie hasn't managed more than 58 games in any of the previous four seasons. He skated in 52 contests last term and struggled, recording 12 goals and 13 assists.

T.J. Oshie Facing Uncertain Future

Washington Capitals forward T.J. Oshie is unsure if he will be able to keep playing next season due to recurring issues with his back. Back injuries along with a concussion limited the veteran to just 52 regular-season games in the 2023-24 campaign. "I'd love to play next year, but I will need to come back with somewhat of a guarantee that my back won't be -- it's hard putting everyone through the situation," Oshie said on Tuesday. "From my family at home to the team trying to figure out a lineup to young guys getting called up and going down, I'd like to find just an answer and a fix to the problem before I make another run at it." Oshie was limited to just 12 goals and 25 points in his 52 games and notched just one assist in the team's first-round sweep at the hands of the New York Rangers.

T.J. Oshie Could Play Tuesday

Washington Capitals right winger T.J. Oshie (upper body) could return to the lineup on Tuesday for the team's crucial matchup with the Detroit Red Wings. The veteran has missed the past four games due to an upper-body injury and said he felt good after practicing on Monday. "In my situation we're going to kind of go day to day, but hopeful that I feel good tomorrow morning," Oshie said. The oft-injured winger is having a down offensive season that has included several injuries, as he has tallied 11 goals and 22 points with 83 shots on goal across just 47 games. The Capitals enter Tuesday's contest sitting just one point back of the Red Wings for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, although they are one of three teams with 83 points on the season.

T.J. Oshie Won't Play Tuesday

Washington Capitals forward T.J. Oshie (undisclosed) will miss Tuesday's clash against the Buffalo Sabres. Oshie has had an injury-riddled season, and it continues on Tuesday, as the winger will miss his 27th game of the season due to an undisclosed injury. The 37-year-old has 22 points (11 goals, 11 assists) in 47 games as part of Washington's top six. He has retreated to a depth role at this point of his career, and isn't of much use in fantasy outside of deeper leagues.

T.J. Oshie, Aliaksei Protoas Remain Out Friday

Washington Capitals forwards T.J. Oshie and Aliaksei Protas will both remain sidelined for Friday's game against the visiting Carolina Hurricanes. Both players skated on Friday morning but will both once again sit out as they did for Wednesday's 7-3 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The oft-injured Oshie has once again dealt with injuries this season, skating in just 43 games with 11 goals and 19 points on 81 shots on goal in that time. The veteran has played in 58 games or fewer in four straight seasons. Protas, 23, has recorded five goals and 28 points across 65 games as part of his 13:24 of average ice time per game. He has added 90 shots on goal and has a minus-three rating on the campaign.

T.J. Oshie A Game-Time Decision Saturday

Washington Capitals forward T.J. Oshie is a game-time decision for Saturday's road game against the Vancouver Canucks. The veteran recently missed a seven-game stretch due to an upper-body injury and left Saturday's morning skate early with an undisclosed ailment. The 37-year-old is enduring a down season offensively with 11 goals and 19 points across 41 games on the season while managing just 77 shots on goal in that time. He is just one game shy of the 1,000 games played mark as he has 301 goals and 689 points in his 999 career games to this point. The Capitals enter Saturday's contest sitting fifth in the Metropolitan Division with a 31-25-9 record, three points back of the Red Wings for the second Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference despite sporting a -31 goal differential, good for 27th in the NHL.

T.J. Oshie Listed As Week-To-Week

Washington Capitals forward T.J. Oshie is listed as week-to-week with an upper-body injury. The veteran departed a contest on Feb. 22 against the Tampa Bay Lightning and did not dress for Saturday's overtime loss to the Florida Panthers. "Obviously left the game and we'll continue to monitor him," Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery said. "I don't think this is a skating today or tomorrow situation, but I don't want to tell you anything definitive on timeline or anything like that. We'll just continue to monitor him." It's been a down season offensively for the 37-year-old as he has tallied 10 goals and 18 points across 38 games. The Capitals' overall offense has also dipped this season as they sit fifth in the Metropolitan Division with a 26-21-9 record.

T.J. Oshie Ruled Out For Saturday

Washington Capitals right wing T.J. Oshie (lower body) won't play on Saturday against Florida. The veteran suffered a non-contact injury against Tampa Bay on Thursday, and this might be the start of a lengthy absence for him. After slumping through most of the campaign, Oshie has sparked into life in recent weeks, averaging close to a point per game over his last 16 appearances. He has scored 10 goals this season and sits on 18 points through 38 appearances. The team has recalled Hendrix Lapierre from the AHL as Oshie's potential replacement in the lineup. The 22-year-old has played in 25 NHL games this season, posting two goals and five assists.

T.J. Oshie Sustains Non-Contact Injury

Washington Capitals right wing T.J. Oshie suffered a non-contact injury in Thursday's 5-3 victory over Tampa Bay. He was hurt in the third period and needed help getting to the locker room after crawling off the ice. The team announced Oshie exited with a lower-body injury. Oshie has been in good form lately and registered an assist before getting injured on Thursday. He has posted 10 goals and 18 points in 38 games for the season. Max Pacioretty might move back into the top six in Oshie's absence.

T.J. Oshie Extends Point Streak With A Hat Trick

Washington Capitals right wing T.J. Oshie notched his sixth career hat trick as the team cruised past St. Louis with a 5-2 win on Thursday. Oshie started the damage against his former team with a couple of power-play goals and completed the three-goal effort with an empty-netter 20 seconds from the end of regulation. The 37-year-old became the second player to score a hat trick against the Blues after being drafted by the club. Oshie has been off the fantasy radar for most of the season, and he's struggled to stay in the lineup due to injuries, but managers should certainly take note of his recent form -- the Capitals forward has scored in three of the last four games, totaling six points.

T.J. Oshie Scores In Second Consecutive Game

Washington Capitals right wing T.J. Oshie potted the team's lone goal in Sunday's 2-1 defeat to the Rangers, making it two goals in two games for himself. The veteran replaced Alex Ovechkin (lower body) on the top line on Saturday against the Rangers and made an immediate impact with a goal. He remained in the role Sunday as Ovechkin missed a second consecutive contest. The prolific weekend should give Oshie much-needed momentum during a down year. He had only two goals and four points in 22 games prior to the weekend's action.

T.J. Oshie Rejoins Capitals Lineup On Thursday

Washington Capitals right wing T.J. Oshie (upper body) will be back in action on Thursday against Seattle. He's returning from an 11-game absence, having last featured on Dec. 15. Oshie has battled health issues all season, and he hasn't been in great form when healthy, either. With 21 games played, the veteran has contributed only two goals and two assists. Oshie is projected to skate on the second line with Max Pacioretty and Evgeny Kuznetsov, although Washington's plans could change, with Alex Ovechkin (lower body) and Tom Wilson (face) both in danger of missing the contest and considered game-time decisions.

T.J. Oshie, Sonny Milano Won't Return Before Break

Washington Capitals forwards T.J. Oshie (lower body) and Sonny Milano (upper body) have both been ruled out for the club's final three games before the upcoming Christmas break. Oshie scored a goal and skated 18:51 of ice time in Saturday's loss to the Nashville Predators but has largely struggled this season with just two goals, four points, and 40 shots on goal across 21 games. Milano hasn't appeared since getting injured in a Dec. 10 contest against the Chicago Blackhawks. The 27-year-old has collected four goals and eight points across 23 games on the season but has just 20 shots on goal in that time. Capitals rookie Ivan Miroshnichenko could fill one of the holes for his NHL debut on Wednesday against the New York Islanders.

T.J. Oshie Could Return Saturday

Washington Capitals right winger T.J. Oshie (lower body) could return to the lineup for Saturday's contest versus the visiting New York Rangers. The veteran has missed the past six contests due to the lower-body ailment. "I have to be good tonight and tomorrow, but I feel good," Oshie said after attending an optional practice on Friday. It's been a tough season for the long-time NHLer, as Oshie has recorded just one goal and one assist across 17 games while getting only 30 shots on goal in that time. He is also a minus-four without a point on the power play. He's approaching 1,000 games played in the NHL with 975 career contests on his resume, while he's collected 291 goals and 672 points in that time, maxing out at 60 points in the 2013-14 season while with the St. Louis Blues.

T.J. Oshie Stays Behind As Capitals Head On Road Trip

Washington Capitals right wing T.J. Oshie (upper body) will miss at least one game after getting hurt in Friday's battle with the Oilers. He sustained an upper-body injury in the game, and head coach Spencer Carbery has already announced that Oshie won't be with the squad as Washington begins a five-game road trip on Monday. It's possible Oshie will rejoin the team at some point during the trip when he feels ready to play again. The veteran will sit out his first game of the season on Monday. It's been a very poor year so far for Oshie, as he has totaled only two points (one goal, one assist).

T.J. Oshie Out For The Season

Washington Capitals forward T.J. Oshie (upper body) will miss the team's final three games of the season. He's already been unavailable for three games with an upper-body injury, and with nothing at stake for Washington anymore, the team won't rush Oshie back. The veteran ends his 15th campaign in the league with 19 goals and 35 points in 58 games. That's back-to-back disappointing campaign for Oshie, who will be 37 in December. He has two more seasons left on his contract that has a $5.75 million cap hit.

T.J. Oshie Exits With An Upper-Body Injury

Washington Capitals forward T.J. Oshie had to exit Thursday's contest against Tampa Bay with an upper-body injury. He managed to soak in just a little over six minutes of action, registering one shot on goal and one hit with a minus-one rating. Oshie's status for Sunday's matchup against the Rangers is unknown. The veteran has been very injury prone this season, skating in only 58 of the team's 76 games. He's contributed 19 goals and 15 assists. Conor Sheary could make the jump back into the top six if Oshie is unavailable for the weekend.

Nicklas Backstrom, T.J. Oshie Back On Thursday

Washington Capitals forwards Nicklas Backstrom (illness) and T.J. Oshie (personal) will rejoin the lineup Thursday against the Penguins. Both players sat out Tuesday's clash with Colorado. Following hip surgery, Backstrom's season debut came very late, and he has skated in only seven games so far, going goalless with three assists. He is set to center a line with Sonny Milano and Marcus Johansson on Thursday. Oshie, who has posted 10 goals and seven assists in 32 games, is primed to join Alex Ovechkin's line, which also features Dylan Strome.

T.J. Oshie Unavailable Tuesday

Washington Capitals forward T.J. Oshie (personal) won't be in the lineup Tuesday versus Colorado. He has left the team's three-game road trip to attend the birth of his child. The veteran should be back for the next game when the Capitals are back home for a contest versus Pittsburgh on Thursday. Oshie is having a down year, sitting on only 10 goals and 17 points in 32 games. He has been used throughout the lineup but hasn't really hit consistent form in any situation.

T.J. Oshie In Contention To Return Tuesday

Washington Capitals forward T.J. Oshie (upper body) could be back in action Tuesday versus Buffalo, with the team regarding him as a game-time decision for the contest. He has sat out the past six games whilst recovering from an upper-body injury. Oshie is set to skate on the third line if he's cleared for action. The veteran has been off form for most of 2022-23, averaging a career-low 0.50 points per game in 22 outings. He has failed to get any points in nine of his last 11 appearances. Oshie's fantasy stock must be at an all-time low, although he should still have some decent appeal, as Washington uses him on the first power-play unit.
