John Carlson Misses Fourth Consecutive Game

Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson (lower body) isn't ready to rejoin the lineup on Tuesday against the Utah Mammoth. He will miss a fourth straight game after skating on Tuesday morning with a non-contact jersey. Carlson was hurt before the Olympic break and has been nursing a lower-body injury for a month. With Carlson out, Rasmus Sandin has taken on extra responsibilities, joining the first defensive pairing and the second power-play unit. Since moving up in the lineup, Sandin has notched one goal and two assists in three games.

Washington Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson made 24 of 26 saves in Friday night's victory versus the Golden Knights. He earned his second win in as many games back from the Olympic break after Wednesday night's match against the Flyers. Thompson was perfect through two periods, but then Bowman scored 2:27 into the third period, and Hertl had a power-play goal with 10:45 left in the game. He was able to hang on for the victory and continue his strong season.

Pierre-Luc Dubois Scores Twice in Victory

Washington Capitals forward Pierre-Luc Dubois lit the lamp twice in Friday night's 3-2 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights. Playing in just his ninth game of the season, Pierre scored twice early in the second period, with Aleksei Protas and Rasmus Sandin getting credited with the assists. He has three goals and two assists this year, but last year he had 20 goals and 66 points when he ended up playing the full 82-game slate. Tom Wilson Good to Go Friday

Washington Capitals right wing Tom Wilson (illness) will be in the lineup on Friday against the Vegas Golden Knights, Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reports. The power forward didn't play in Wednesday's 3-1 win over Philadelphia after waking up ill. Wilson will be part of the second line with Pierre-Luc Dubois and Connor McMichael, with Hendrix Lapierre scratched for the contest. It's safe to say Wilson has been Washington's best player this season, racking up 49 points (23 goals, 26 assists) and 132 hits in 50 outings.

John Carlson to Miss At Least Two More Games

Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson (lower body) will remain out for the team's upcoming back-to-back set, Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reports. Washington faces Vegas on Friday and Montreal on Saturday. Carlson missed his fifth game of the season on Wednesday night against Philadelphia. Declan Chisholm entered the lineup on Wednesday and will remain part of the defensive group for Friday's game. Although Chisholm hasn't been very productive this season, he contributed an assist in Wednesday's 3-1 win. The 26-year-old didn't record any defensive stats but finished with a plus-one rating over 15:08 of action.

John Carlson Out Wednesday

Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson (lower body) will sit out Wednesday's contest against the Philadelphia Flyers. The veteran blue-liner sustained a lower-body injury before the Olympic break and needs more time to fully recover. It's bad news for the Capitals, as Carlson has played great hockey in 2025-26. Across 55 outings, Carlson has contributed 10 goals, 36 assists, and 84 blocks. Declan Chisholm is expected to take Carlson's spot in the lineup on Wednesday, but he is an unappealing option for fantasy managers.

Charlie Lindgren Activated From Injured Reserve Monday

Washington Capitals goaltender Charlie Lindgren (lower body) was activated from Injured Reserve on Monday. The veteran netminder missed four games before the Olympic break due to a lower-body injury. Serving as Logan Thompson's backup, Lindgren has gone 8-6-3 in 17 starts this season, posting a 3.37 goals-against average, a .884 save percentage, and one shutout. Washington will resume the season on Wednesday night against the Philadelphia Flyers. The team also has a back-to-back on Friday and Saturday, so Lindgren is likely to start at least once this week.

Charlie Lindgren Practices Fully Tuesday

Washington Capitals goaltender Charlie Lindgren (lower body) was a full participant in Tuesday's practice, Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reports. He looks set to return to action after the Olympic break. Lindgren missed a few contests before the break due to a lower-body injury, landing on Injured Reserve. The Capitals will resume the season on Feb. 25 against the Philadelphia Flyers. Lindgren's 2025-26 campaign hasn't gone too well. On average, he has allowed over three goals per game (3.37) with a .884 save percentage. The 32-year-old has an 8-6-3 record and one shutout. After playing Philadelphia, the Capitals have a back-to-back scheduled, meaning we should see both Lindgren and Logan Thompson in action next week.

Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson (lower body) will be available after the Olympic break, Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reports. The veteran blue-liner suffered a lower-body injury in Washington's final pre-break game on Feb. 5. However, Carlson practiced in a regular jersey on Tuesday, indicating he is ready to play when the break ends. Washington will return to action on Feb. 25 against the Philadelphia Flyers. Carlson is enjoying his best season in recent years, recording 46 points (10 goals, 36 assists), 115 shots, 84 blocks, and a plus-11 rating over 55 appearances.

Jakob Chychrun Makes Big Impact in Thursday's Win

Washington Capitals defenseman Jakob Chychrun recorded a game-high three points in Thursday's 4-2 victory over the Nashville Predators. He potted two goals, including a power-play marker to ice the game, and had one assist. This made Chychrun only the second defenseman in Capitals history with back-to-back 20-goal campaigns. He has lit the lamp 21 times, adding 25 assists in 57 contests. Chychrun leads all defensemen in goals scored and needs just two more points to set a new career high. Despite his fantastic form, Chychrun won't be part of Team Canada's roster at the Olympics, giving him three weeks to recharge for the most important part of the season.

John Carlson Suffers Lower-Body Injury

Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson (lower body) couldn't complete Thursday's 4-2 victory over the Nashville Predators. He collected a power-play assist in the first period but was limited to 7:03 of ice time due to a lower-body injury. Luckily for Carlson, the league is now on an Olympic break, giving him around three weeks to get healthy. The Capitals continue their season on Feb. 25 against the Philadelphia Flyers. Carlson was snubbed by Team USA for the Olympics despite a strong season. The 17-year-old veteran has recorded 46 points (10 goals, 36 assists), 115 shots, 84 blocks, and a plus-11 rating in 55 games.

Pierre-Luc Dubois Available Against Predators

Washington Capitals forward Pierre-Luc Dubois (abdomen) will return to action on Thursday night against the Nashville Predators. He has been out of commission since Oct. 31, missing 47 games due to abdominal and adductor muscle surgery. Before landing on the shelf, Dubois had a slow start to the season, going scoreless in six games. He is set to center the second line and the second power-play unit on Thursday. Sonny Milano (personal) will come out of the lineup. Dubois may have struggled early this season, but fantasy managers should keep an eye on him, as he set a career high with 66 points only a year ago.

Logan Thompson Expected to Return Thursday

Washington Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson (upper body) will miss two more games, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports. The Capitals expect to have him back on Thursday against the Nashville Predators. Thompson was placed on Injured Reserve on Monday, retroactive to Jan. 28. Charlie Lindgren (lower body) is also on Injured Reserve and won't return until after the Olympic break, leaving Clay Stevenson and Garin Bjorklund as the team's options in net for its upcoming back-to-back. Stevenson will make a second consecutive start on Monday against the New York Islanders after his winning performance in Saturday's season debut versus Carolina.

Matt Roy Rejoins Capitals Lineup Monday

Washington Capitals defenseman Matt Roy (lower body) has been cleared to return from a three-game absence on Monday against the New York Islanders, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports. The team has activated Roy from Injured Reserve ahead of the contest. Roy ranks second on his team with 106 blocks and is looking to post a fifth consecutive 20-point season. In 53 appearances, Roy has managed one goal and 13 assists. Washington's defense will also get Martin Fehervary (personal) back into the lineup after he missed Saturday's win over Carolina for the birth of his daughter.

Connor McMichael  • C  •  Capitals

Connor McMichael Out Week-to-Week

Washington Capitals forward Connor McMichael (upper body) was placed on Injured Reserve and is considered week-to-week. The 25-year-old missed his first game of the season on Saturday against the Carolina Hurricanes and won't return to action until after the Olympics. The injury will ruin McMichael's attempt to register his second consecutive 50-point campaign. In 55 outings, he has contributed eight goals and 23 assists. Ethen Frank moved to the third line as McMichael's replacement on Saturday. McMichael's exit from the lineup also opens up power-play time, as he averages the sixth-most power-play time on his team (1:37).

Charlie Lindgren Hurt Versus Red Wings

Washington Capitals goaltender Charlie Lindgren (lower body) was injured during Thursday's 4-3 shootout win over the Detroit Red Wings, Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reports. Lindgren was hurt late in overtime but remained in the net for the shootout. He eventually needed assistance from his teammates to leave the ice. Lindgren didn't stop any shots in the shootout, but he had 18 saves in the game and improved to 8-6-3. The Capitals had inexperienced Clay Stevenson serving as the backup after losing Logan Thompson (upper body) for the game. While Thompson is considered day-to-day, it's unclear whether he will be able to return this week, putting the team in a tough spot if Lindgren also has to miss time.

Logan Thompson Unavailable Thursday

Washington Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson (upper body) won't play in Thursday's contest against the Detroit Red Wings and is considered day-to-day. Thompson had his mask knocked off by a shot on Tuesday against the Seattle Kraken. He remained in the game but will sit out Thursday's action due to an upper-body injury. Thompson saw a lot of success early in the campaign and holds an 18-16-4 record. He has allowed 2.46 goals with a .912 save percentage and two shutouts. Charlie Lindgren, who is 7-6-3 for the year, will start on Thursday, while Clay Stevenson has been summoned from the minors to serve as the backup.

Tom Wilson Comes Off Injured Reserve

Washington Capitals right wing Tom Wilson (lower body) was activated from Injured Reserve, paving the way for him to return to the lineup on Wednesday against the Vancouver Canucks. The power forward has been out for eight games due to a lower-body injury. Wilson has had a wonderful 2025-26 campaign, posting a team-high 22 goals and sharing the overall scoring lead on the squad with 42 points in 41 games. He also has an outstanding plus-20 rating. Wilson returns in a great spot, taking on a team that has lost a franchise-worst 11 games in a row. Ivan Miroshnichenko is projected to make way for Wilson in the lineup.

Tom Wilson May Return Monday

Washington Capitals right wing Tom Wilson (lower body) might be ready to end a seven-game absence on Monday against the Colorado Avalanche. After returning to practice last week, Wilson participated in the morning skate ahead of Saturday's contest against the Florida Panthers. He was labeled a game-time decision for the matchup, but the team ultimately didn't activate him from Injured Reserve. Wilson's return would be a welcome boost for a Capitals team that has won only three games in 2026. The power forward has been a point-per-game player this season, leading Washington with 22 goals and 42 points.

Tom Wilson Could Be an Option Saturday

Washington Capitals right wing Tom Wilson (lower body) could return from a six-game absence on Saturday against the Florida Panthers. The power forward rejoined practice earlier this week and participated in an optional morning skate on Saturday. Wilson is having a career year in 2025-26, sitting on a team-high 42 points (22 goals, 20 assists) through 41 appearances. Wilson's return on Saturday would probably bump Ethen Frank from the first line. However, Frank may still see increased usage due to Justin Sourdif's (upper body) continued absence.
