Thomas Greiss Done For The Season

St. Louis Blues goaltender Thomas Greiss (lower body) has been shut down for the rest of the season. It was reported earlier in the week that Greiss had undergone a procedure, so his return was already unlikely. The 37-year-old German veteran wraps things up with a 7-10-0 record, a 3.84 goals-against average, a .896 save percentage and one shutout. Greiss will be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason and it remains to be seen if the 2019 William M. Jennings Trophy winner continues his NHL career or not.

Thomas Greiss Produces A 35-Save Shutout

St. Louis Blues goaltender Thomas Greiss sent the Minnesota Wild home unhappy Sunday, stopping 35 shots to record his first shutout of the season in a 3-0 win. He had an easy night at the office at first, with the Wild managing just 12 shots on the net in the first two periods, but Greiss then faced a very heavy barrage in the third. The German netminder was playing in his first game since Dec. 20 and improved to 5-5-0 for the season. His goals-against average of 3.23 is pretty poor, but Greiss has been a solid backup overall for St. Louis, producing a .911 save percentage.

Thomas Greiss Shines In Win Over Calgary

St. Louis Blues goaltender Thomas Greiss was on his game Friday, stopping 41 of 43 shots in a 5-2 win over the Calgary Flames. Greiss easily outplayed his opponent, Jakob Markstrom, and was the difference in a game where the Blues weren't necessarily the better team. The win bumps Greiss' record to 4-4-0, and he has a .905 SV% and 3.50 GAA. Neither Greiss nor usual starter Jordan Binnington have been great this season, but if the former can get hot, the Blues' could ride him as they try to salvage their season. Keep an eye out for him as a sneaky potential start-stealer if he has a couple more good starts.

Thomas Greiss Exits With Injury

Detroit Red Wings goaltender Thomas Greiss suffered an upper-body injury in Thursday's 5-2 loss to the Islanders and couldn't make it to the end of the game. The former Islander was involved in a collision with Oliver Wahlstrom six minutes before the final break and he initially managed to carry on, but Alex Nedeljkovic replaced him for the third period. Greiss allowed three goals on 16 shots and Nedeljkovic didn't do much better with two goals given up on 10 shots. It's not been a fun season for Greiss in Mo-Town, with the German veteran registering an 8-11-1 record with a 3.79 goals-against average and a .885 save percentage. Nedeljkovic has grabbed most of the starts and Greiss could now be without game action for a while if he suffered a serious injury.

Thomas Greiss Makes His 13th Start Of The Campaign

Detroit Red Wings goaltender Thomas Greiss will log his 13th start of the season on Saturday against New Jersey. He's been playing second fiddle to Alex Nedeljkovic for quite some time now, but Nedeljkovic is unavailable against the Devils because of COVID-19 protocols. Greiss sits on a 5-6-0 record ahead of Saturday's action with a 3.87 goals-against average and a .889 save percentage. However, the Devils have their own woes between the pipes and it's led to unproven Akira Schmid getting his second career start, so Greiss finds himself in a good spot to improve his record.

Thomas Greiss Makes 40 Saves In Red Wings Win

Veteran goaltender Thomas Greiss was rock-solid on Saturday night as the Detroit Red Wings upset the Vancouver Canucks by a score of 3-1. He stopped 40 of the 41 shots that he faced during his first regular-season action in 2021-22. Robby Fabbri, Filip Zadina, and Sam Gagner had the goals for Detroit. Greiss is coming off a solid 2020-21 season that saw him post a .912 SV% and 2.70 GAA for a club that struggled on defense. The club made some significant changes to its defense corps during the offseason and now boasts a solid mix of high-upside young players and steady, defensive-minded veterans, which should help Greiss and fellow goalie Alex Nedeljkovic as the season progresses.

Thomas Greiss Posts Second Consecutive Shutout

Detroit Red Wings goaltender Thomas Greiss carried his side to a 1-0 shootout victory on Saturday against Tampa, recording his second consecutive shutout. Detroit got outshot 33-15 but the German veteran was sharp throughout the contest and picked up his seventh victory of the season. Greiss had only two wins for the year before last month. He has registered a 2.73 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage. The Wings finish off a back-to-back set against Tampa on Sunday and will have another one starting Friday to close the season versus Columbus.

Thomas Greiss Goes For Third Consecutive Win

Detroit Red Wings goaltender Thomas Greiss will look for his third consecutive win in Monday's matchup against Dallas. The German veteran has had a very frustrating year, but he's shown plenty of signs of improvement lately, picking up three of his five wins in his past four starts. Greiss carries a 5-15-6 record with a 3.07 goals-against average and a .899 save percentage. He could cause plenty of headaches here for the Stars, who have struggled to kill teams off all season, which has resulted in only 17 wins from 43 games for the reigning Western Conference champs.

Thomas Greiss Guards Cage Against Panthers

Detroit Red Wings goaltender Thomas Greiss will get the start in a Friday night contest versus the Florida Panthers. The 35-year-old, who hasn't allowed more than three goals in a single start this season, is looking for his second victory in 13 appearances in 2020-2021. Greiss actually hasn't been bad in his debut season in Detroit (2.90 goals-against average, .899 save percentage) but just doesn't stand much of a chance playing behind a team in the middle of a rebuild. As a result, Greiss should remain in free agency in all but the deepest of fantasy leagues.

Thomas Greiss Likely To Start On Tuesday

Detroit Red Wings goaltender Thomas Greiss is the likely starter in goal for Tuesday's matchup with the Florida Panthers. Jonathan Bernier (upper body) is close to returning but isn't ready yet, so the German has a chance to make it back-to-back wins against the Cats. Greiss started the season with a nine-game losing run but finally picked up his first W last weekend with a 36-save performance against Florida in a 4-1 victory. He has a 1-7-2 record for the season with a 3.00 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage. The high-scoring Panthers will be out for revenge, so it's best to avoid Greiss on Tuesday's slate.

Thomas Greiss Lasts Only 5:36 Against Tampa

Detroit Red Wings goaltender Thomas Greiss had a very brief night at the office on Wednesday when he gave up three goals on five shots against Tampa Bay and got pulled with just 5:36 played in the contest. Calvin Pickard came in and had 17 saves in an eventual 5-1 loss. Greiss, who signed a two-year deal as a free agent with Detroit during the offseason, has had a miserable start to life in Mo-Town, as he is winless through eight outings. The veteran netminder really should be doing better, as the Red Wings are allowing 3.64 goals per game but giving up fewer than 30 shots a night.

Thomas Greiss Expected To Start On Wednesday

Detroit Red Wings goaltender Thomas Greiss will likely guard the cage as his team takes on the Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday. The 35-year-old is coming off a 3-2 loss to the Panthers on Sunday in which he stopped 27 of 30 shots faced in the contest. Playing behind a team in the midst of a rebuild, Greiss doesn't offer much fantasy appeal - backed up by the fact that he's winless with a 3.03 goals-against average and a .897 save percentage through seven appearances. Facing the reigning Stanley Cup Champs on Wednesday, Greiss serves as an option only for the most desperate of fantasy owners.

Thomas Greiss Starts For Detroit On Friday

Detroit Red Wings goaltender Thomas Greiss will make his third appearance of the season on Friday, looking to finally get his first win. The German netminder has done pretty well so far, posting a 2.59 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage, but he hasn't received enough goal support from the team. His team should be able to finally provide it in Friday's matchup, as the Blackhawks have given up 20 goals in four games, registering a league-worst 5.00 goals-against average. However, Greiss is winless himself in five career games against Chicago with an ugly 4.13 goals-against average and a .876 save percentage.

Thomas Greiss Facing Blue Jackets Monday

Detroit Red Wings goaltender Thomas Greiss will be in net for Monday's afternoon matchup with the Columbus Blue Jackets. The German netminder performed admirably in the team's season opener, turning aside 40 of 42 shots. Greiss may not get a ton of offensive support this season, but he has proven to be an effective NHL starter over the course of his career. The Red Wings are also marginally better defensively than they were last season, making Greiss a viable streaming option against low-scoring opponents like the Blue Jackets.
