Los Angeles Kings goaltender Troy Grosenick will be the team's starter in Thursday's season finale against Colorado. The 31-year-old will make only his second appearance of the season. His lone outing was a good one on March 10 in a 5-1 win over Anaheim, in which Grosenick saved 33 of 34 shots to produce a .971 save percentage. His career record in the NHL stands at 2-1-0 with a 1.35 goals-against average, a .957 save percentage and one shutout. The veteran has been outstanding when he's had a chance to play, but there's a reason why he's earned only a handful of appearances while bouncing around multiple organizations, so don't expect any miracles from him here against a team that can finish the regular season with the best record in the league if they win.
Los Angeles Kings goaltender Troy Grosenick made his first NHL appearance in over six years on Wednesday, stopping 33 shots in a 5-1 victory over the Ducks. The 31-year-old was drafted in after Cal Petersen went into the COVID-19 protocol just a few hours before the game. With Jonathan Quick (upper body) also out, the Kings were out of options and called up Grosenick from the AHL. Grosenick's six years and 112 days between wins mark the seventh-longest period between regular-season victories in NHL history. He now has a 2-1-0 career record with a 1.35 goals-against average and a .957 save percentage. It's a great story, and Grosenick might get some more action, but Quick is labeled day-to-day and will return soon, while Petersen might not be missing for long either.
The Los Angeles Kings look to rely upon goaltender Troy Grosenick to mind the crease on Wednesday against the Anaheim Ducks. Regular Kings goalie Cal Petersen was placed on the COVID-19 reserve list and will be unavailable on Wednesday. Grosenick hasn't played in an NHL game since the 2014-15 season, when he played in three contests with San Jose. Since that time, he has been in the AHL playing for San Jose, Milwaukee and Ontario.
