Tyler Johnson News
Chicago Blackhawks forward Tyler Johnson (ankle) was placed on Injured Reserve Thursday. The two-time Stanley Cup winner was hurt in Tuesday's 4-2 win over Florida when he went feet-first into the boards in the third period. He left the arena in a walking boot, which is a sign that Johnson will likely need quite a bit of time to recover. It's a shame because he already missed a lot of time last season after undergoing artificial disc replacement surgery in his neck, and he had opened the campaign in fine form with two goals and four assists in six games. Jujhar Khaira looks set to take over from Johnson on the second line Thursday versus Edmonton.
Forward Tyler Johnson (neck) is set to make his return to the Chicago Blackhawks later this week. The former Tampa Bay Lightning player was injured earlier this season and underwent the same surgery that Vegas Golden Knights forward Jack Eichel recently returned from. In eight games earlier this season, Johnson had one goal and three points in eight games. The 31-year-old's offense has dried up in recent years while seeing limited playing time but he's reportedly been practicing on Chicago's top powerplay line and could be in line for more ice time. He's scored 20 or more goals four times in his career and could be a nice late-season addition for fantasy owners looking for a boost.
The Chicago Blackhawks added forward Tyler Johnson in a trade with the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday. In exchange, injured defenseman Brent Seabrook was flipped to the Lightning. Johnson's contract carries a $5 million AAV for the next three years. Last season, Johnson scored just eight goals and recorded 22 total points in 55 games. He scored 77 points back in 2014-15 but his offensive game has been on the decline since then. However, he could possibly rediscover some of that scoring touch if he receives a larger role in Chicago. Seabrook is expected to be transitioned to the LTIR and will likely never suit up for the Lightning. Once on LTIR, his contract (three years with a $6.875 AAV) will not count against the club's salary cap.
Tampa Bay Lightning forward Tyler Johnson scored his sixth goal of the season and added his eighth assist in a 6-3 victory over the Nashville Predators. Johnson is actually having a pretty decent season with the amount of ice time he is receiving. He averages just under 14:00 minutes a night centering Tampa Bay's third line. The Lightning is unbeaten in five contests and will matchup against Nashville again on Monday.
