Tyler Johnson Signs Professional Tryout Agreement With Bruins

Two-time Stanley Cup champion Tyler Johnson has joined the Boston Bruins on a professional tryout agreement. The veteran forward is looking to extend his NHL career into a 13th year. Following a long spell with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Johnson has spent the last three campaigns with the Chicago Blackhawks. He notched 31 points (17 goals, 14 assists) in 67 games last season. The former All-Star became a free agent after completing a seven-year, $35 million contract he signed with the Lightning in 2017. Johnson has made 738 regular-season appearances in the National Hockey League, scoring 193 goals and 431 points. Last season showed that Johnson still has some juice left offensively, and with over 100 playoff games on his resume, he will also add a lot of experience to the Boston team if he earns himself a standard contract for 2024-25.

Tyler Johnson Expected To Play Wednesday

Chicago Blackhawks forward Tyler Johnson (foot) practiced with the team on Monday and is expected to return to action when the club plays host to the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday. The veteran has been out since suffering a foot injury on Dec. 31 against the Dallas Stars in his team's rough 8-1 defeat. "Unless something comes up tomorrow that he's sore, but he said after that he felt good, so he's ready to go," Blackhawks bench boss Luke Richardson said. It has been an unspectacular offensive season on a subpar Blackhawks offense for Johnson, who has recorded nine goals and 13 points across 35 games. The oft-injured forward hasn't had much support with Connor Bedard also missing significant time for the rebuilding Blackhawks.

Tyler Johnson Out For "A Little Time"

Chicago Blackhawks forward Tyler Johnson is set to miss time with an undisclosed injury. He was hurt on Sunday versus Dallas, and Blackhawks head coach Luke Richardson doesn't expect to have him available for the upcoming games. "He'll be probably out for a little time," Richardson said. "But it's just so quick on the road with us getting out of here, we'll have to find out a little bit more maybe tomorrow or down the road how long." Johnson has been centering the second line and earned a spot on the first power-play unit on Sunday, with Chicago having lost a host of players to injury. Richardson will now have to make even more maneuvering with his lineup.

Tyler Johnson Placed On Injured Reserve

Chicago Blackhawks forward Tyler Johnson (ankle) was placed on Injured Reserve Thursday. The two-time Stanley Cup winner was hurt in Tuesday's 4-2 win over Florida when he went feet-first into the boards in the third period. He left the arena in a walking boot, which is a sign that Johnson will likely need quite a bit of time to recover. It's a shame because he already missed a lot of time last season after undergoing artificial disc replacement surgery in his neck, and he had opened the campaign in fine form with two goals and four assists in six games. Jujhar Khaira looks set to take over from Johnson on the second line Thursday versus Edmonton.

Tyler Johnson To Return This Week For Blackhawks

Forward Tyler Johnson (neck) is set to make his return to the Chicago Blackhawks later this week. The former Tampa Bay Lightning player was injured earlier this season and underwent the same surgery that Vegas Golden Knights forward Jack Eichel recently returned from. In eight games earlier this season, Johnson had one goal and three points in eight games. The 31-year-old's offense has dried up in recent years while seeing limited playing time but he's reportedly been practicing on Chicago's top powerplay line and could be in line for more ice time. He's scored 20 or more goals four times in his career and could be a nice late-season addition for fantasy owners looking for a boost.

Chicago Adds Tyler Johnson In Trade

The Chicago Blackhawks added forward Tyler Johnson in a trade with the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday. In exchange, injured defenseman Brent Seabrook was flipped to the Lightning. Johnson's contract carries a $5 million AAV for the next three years. Last season, Johnson scored just eight goals and recorded 22 total points in 55 games. He scored 77 points back in 2014-15 but his offensive game has been on the decline since then. However, he could possibly rediscover some of that scoring touch if he receives a larger role in Chicago. Seabrook is expected to be transitioned to the LTIR and will likely never suit up for the Lightning. Once on LTIR, his contract (three years with a $6.875 AAV) will not count against the club's salary cap.

Tyler Johnson Tallies Two Points On Saturday

Tampa Bay Lightning forward Tyler Johnson scored his sixth goal of the season and added his eighth assist in a 6-3 victory over the Nashville Predators. Johnson is actually having a pretty decent season with the amount of ice time he is receiving. He averages just under 14:00 minutes a night centering Tampa Bay's third line. The Lightning is unbeaten in five contests and will matchup against Nashville again on Monday.
