Restricted free agent Victor Mete has signed a one-year contract with the Ottawa Senators. It is a one-way deal with a $1.2 million AAV. The contract is a significant bump in pay for him, as he was earning $735,000 last year. He is a two-way defenseman with a good hockey IQ. Mete scored one goal and two points in 14 games for Ottawa after being picked up on waivers from Montreal. It will be a struggle for the Woodbridge, Ontario native to find a consistent spot on the Senators lineup, however. They currently have eight defensemen under NHL contracts for this season. If he can crack the lineup, it will likely be on the third pairing. Don't expect more than 15-20 points from Mete this year.
Ottawa Senators defenseman Victor Mete is set to make his first appearance for the team in Monday's home game against the Jets. The 22-year-old was claimed off waivers on Monday and will be thrown straight into the action. Mete had a miserable time in Montreal this season, playing only 14 games and recording three points, but he has shown flashes of very good potential and could become a very valuable piece for the Senators. Ottawa has parted ways with veteran defensemen Braydon Coburn and Erik Gudbranson, which will give younger guys like Mete a chance to shine. Mete will skate on the third pairing in his debut with Josh Brown.
