Trevor Lawrence Fantasy Forecast 2021

Trevor Lawrence Fantasy

The Jacksonville Jaguars have found their potential face of the franchise with their number one overall pick, Trevor Lawrence. This Clemson University quarterback has been labelled “The Chosen One” for multiple years since he entered the college football platform. He is widely regarded as one of the best quarterback prospects in history and the best quarterback to enter the draft since Andrew Luck.

In college, Trevor Lawrence completed over 10,000 yards in his three seasons(2018-2020) with an average completion percentage of 66.6%. Lawrence also threw for 90 total touchdowns in his college career and only 17 interceptions. He went undefeated as a freshman for the Clemson Tigers, concluding the season with a victory in the 2019 National Championship Game. Lawrence set the Clemson Tigers record for career quarterback wins, losing only the 2020 National Championship and the 2021 Sugar Bowl.

The Jaguars could use a quarterback of his talent under center for the upcoming season. The Jacksonville Jaguars ranked 30th in “Points For” and 28th in overall yards in the NFL with 326 yards a game. Only the Cincinnati Bengals, Washington Football Team, New York Giants, and New York Jets were worse when it came to total yards per game.

Career Accomplishment:

  • CFP National Champion(2018)
  • CFP National Championship Offensive MVP (2018)
  • ACC Player Of The Year (2020)
  • ACC Rookie Of The Year (2018)
  • 2x First-team All-ACC (2019,2020)
  • Second-team All-ACC (2018)
  • Third team All-American (2020)
  • USA Today High School All-American (2017)
  • USA Today High School Football Player of the Year (2017)

Skill Set

Trevor Lawrence stands at 6’6 and weighs 213lbs. His Arm Length is 31 1/2, while his hands measure in at 10″. Due to a shoulder injury at the time of his pro day, other measurements were not recorded at this time.

One of the most significant skills that come with Lawrence is his rare volume of “high stake” games as a three-year starter in college. He has played in pressure situations, and that will translate over to the crucial moments in his NFL career. Another intangible that directly correlates to the above is his level of confidence in the locker room. As a franchise quarterback, this could make or break a player within the locker room. If he can not demand respect, the team will struggle under his leadership, which will not be an issue for Lawrence.

Lawrence has elite size, athleticism, and play traits. His dual-threat capability will drives defensive coordinators crazy trying to gameplan for him. One considerable aspect of Lawrence’s game is that his feet stay calm when working from the pocket. We have all watched quarterbacks get “happy feet” (insert Carson Wentz here). Lawrence will keep a calm persona as he works with subtle pocket slides to stay pass-ready throughout the entire play.

Although Lawrence is close to a perfect prospect, he does have some aspects of his game he will need to improve. Lawrence does have an issue of making ill-advised throws instead of taking sacks on occasions throughout the game. These ill-advised throws come to fruition in his last six games as he totalled five interceptions in that period. Also, as a runner, he needs to incorporate a slide to help save his body from significant hits from the defense.

Landing Spot

There is no question about the fact that Trevor Lawrence will start from day one of this upcoming NFL season. At the moment, he does have veteran Gardner Minshew in the quarterback room with him. However, rumors are swirling that Gardner could be traded to another team. Even if these rumors do not come true, Minshew poses no threat to the number one pick.

Lawrence will have to develop on the fly while leading the Jacksonville Jaguars out of the AFC South’s basement.  Lawrence will have ample weapons surrounding him to relive the talent he would play with during his college career. This offense should receive a jolt of energy from his playmaking ability under center, and now the Jaguars could compete with some of the high-scoring offensive squads in the AFC.  This newfound offensive leadership will come in handy when the Jaguars have to face off against Tennessee Titans, fourth-highest in points per game(29.6) in 2020, and a division foe they will see twice a year. They will need their offensive weapons at full blast when they also face off against the Buffalo Bills in Week 9, the third-highest scoring team per game with 29.9 points per game in 2020.

Fantasy Impact

Trevor Lawrence can be your late-round quarterback in a PPR Redraft league that allows you to build your talent early in the draft and still be sustainable at the quarterback position. Long gone are the days where the Jacksonville Jaguars defense is the top squad in the NFL. As the 31st worst defense in the NFL, Lawrence will have to throw to keep his team in the game.

Playing from behind plus garbage time is a fantasy quarterback’s best friend that can turn a mediocre outing into a stellar QB1 performance. Lawrence has also been gifted with a multitude of weapons to work alongside him to help add to his value in fantasy.

Lawrence will have DJ Chark, Marvin Jones, and Laviska Shenault Jr on the outside. Joining them will be James Robinson, the MVP of the Jaguars last season, and fellow first-round rookie Travis Etienne. With all this offensive firepower on the field with Lawrence, he should be a great late grab for your fantasy squad.

Lawrence’s average draft position(ADP) in PPR redraft is 147. With a draft position as low as Lawrence, you will be able to have the ability to build in all the other positions in fantasy while snagging a quarterback who has a chance to be in the top five for pass attempts in 2021.

Dynasty Value

Trevor Lawrence can be a generational quarterback in the NFL. His talent level, if completely fulfilled, means you can have a “set it and forget it” quarterback for ten years. Lawrence should come in day one for the Jacksonville Jaguars and not even have to compete but completely take the starting role from anyone in that quarterback room.

Lawrence begins his NFL career with an excellent trio of receivers and multiple backs who can work in the rushing and receiving game out the backfield. His biggest issue could be his first-time NFL coach Urban Meyer. We have seen college coaches make the jump to the NFL and completely flame out and destroy the players they have during that span.

Lawrence should not worry you in dynasty rookie drafts and is a safe play for any team competing in fantasy football this season. Lawrence should be one of the first picks off the board in the rookie draft for a super flex dynasty league. In a 1QB league, he may slip behind the big-name backs, such as his teammate Travis Etienne, Najee Harris, and Javonte Williams. Some teams may even draft Ja’Marr Chase and Kyle Pitts, depending on need, before Trevor Lawrence. If you are questioning your quarterback room when you look at your roster, you should select this quarterback and rest your mind on the quarterback position.
