Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 8

Waiver Wire Pickups

Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 8Week 8 is here in the NFL 2022 season. It’s speeding way faster than it should be since I want to enjoy it while it lasts. If only we could have NFL football year-round. Congratulations on surviving Week Seven of the NFL Season. It was a bloodbath littered with injuries, under-performances, ghosting, some wacky kicks, and even wilder finishes. Many players dealt with injuries or awful performances like Aaron Jones, Marquise Brown, Mike Evans, and many more. This includes previous players that missed Week 7 Marquise Brown, Michael Thomas, James Conner, and others. Due to these injuries and poor performances from players, you’re in need of some new players on your roster. That’s why you’re reading this article. I’ll give you some names that you should see if they are on your waivers and really consider picking them up. It’s already near the one-third mark of the NFL season, so be sure to improve those teams since this is where the build for the playoffs truly starts. The league I’ll be basing these on is a 1QB, PPR, and 12-team league, although I’ll include some deeper league shout-outs.

The waivers are based on Yahoo’s system and roster percentages. Waivers typically process Tuesday or Wednesday night so go get those claims in! I wish you luck with Week 8 and may the NFL overlords give us some great football, no missed kicks, and plenty of healthy players with no injuries.

Quick Links

Quarterbacks

Jimmy Garoppolo

San Francisco 49ers, 56% rostered

Jimmy G will continue to be a great streaming quarterback option for teams that need a one-week fill-in. He is going to get a ton of yards thanks to having four extremely talented weapons to throw to in CMC, Deebo, Aiyuk, and Kittle. Plus, he should see a reliable amount of touchdowns with at least two of them in three straight games. If you need a capable fill-in that will get you around 20 points a game for your bye or if your quarterback gets hurt, I’d slot Jimmy G in. He’s got a great floor with more upside than nearly every other quarterback you’ll find on the waiver wire right now.

Running Backs

Gus Edwards

Baltimore Ravens, 43% rostered

Who expected the Ravens to give nearly every rush to Gus Edwards out of the running back room? It wasn’t me. Edwards showcased what he could do with a full workload in his first game back from a torn ACL. He had 66 rushing yards and two touchdowns in a rushing oriented offense behind Lamar Jackson. With the news that Dobbins is having knee surgery, Edwards is the back to own in Baltimore aside from Jackson. I would expect Gus the Bus to continue putting up RB2+ numbers until Dobbins comes back, if not for the whole year. The Ravens could play it safe and just rest Dobbins to ensure he’s healthy for next year or the playoffs.

Michael Carter

New York Jets, 66% rostered

Even with the news of James Robinson being acquired by the Jets, Carter is still a must-add if your league has him on waivers. There’s no guarantee that Robinson will be the RB1 nor does it make me think that Carter won’t get plenty of carries. Carter is fluent in the Jets system and has proven to be a capable running back. He’s skilled with pass-catching too which increases his PPR viability. I like the chance for Carter to be a reliable flex play every week.

Honorable Mentions: Chuba Hubbard, D’Onta Foreman, Isiah Pacheco

Wide Receivers

Parris Campbell

Indianapolis Colts, 5% rostered

Where has this Parris Campbell been?! He’s played in every game this year so far which is a miracle. Not only that, but he has seen 23 targets over the last two games. He’s turned that into 17 catches for 127 yards and two touchdowns. I know he did good in Week 6, but I wanted to see him perform again in Week 7. He did and now it’s time to roster him. With the Colts looking like they’ll  be having to pass a lot this season, espeically with new quarterback Sam Ehlinger, Campbell should continue to be a WR3. As long as he keeps seeing targets, he should perform. It’s finally time for the long-awaited Campbell breakout I hope.

Mecole Hardman

Kansas City Chiefs,  24% rostered

Mecole had a platform game against the 49ers in a Chiefs offense that showcased what it could do with a fully fleshed-out new wide receiver room. Against the tough 49ers defense, Hardman had four catches for 32 yards and touchdown plus 28 rushing yards and two touchodnws on two rushing attempts. It was exciting to see the Chiefs finally figure out ways to get Hardman the ball more often. With their rushing game still being figured out, I’d expect the Chiefs to continue giving the ball to Hardman on rushing attempts to utilize his speed like they did with Hill. If Hardman is going to be a featured part of this offense, you want him on your fantasy team as he could be a league winner if he keeps getting 6+ touches out of the wide receiver room.

Honorable Mentions: Alec Pierce, Darius Slayton, Zay Jones

Tight Ends

Evan Engram

Jacksonville Jaguars, 41% rostered

It looks like Engram has gained the trust of Trevor Lawrence and Doug Pederson. He’s had 23 targets over the last three weeks which is a lot for a tight end. Engram has turned that into an average of 10.87 PPR points a game which is really good. I’m kind of shocked he’s available in this many leagues. He’s had at least 6 targets, 4 catches,  and 40 yards in three weeks straight. The touchdown willl come as I doubt he finishes the season without one. Go add Engram if you need a tight end for bye weeks or just in general like many of us.

Honorable Mentions: Cade Otton

As always, I’m more than happy to talk on Twitter. Let me know your thoughts on these players if you managed to trade for/away from them. If you need thoughts on any trade, my DMs are open on 18/7. I respond to everyone.
