The Chicago Bears Who Have The Best 2020 Fantasy Value

The Chicago Bears vastly underperformed in 2019 with a record of 8-8. The Bears missed the playoffs and finished the season in third place in the NFC North. Not only did the Bears fail to meet lofty 2019 expectations, but they also didn’t perform well in fantasy football outside of star receiver Allen Robinson. Looking ahead to the 2020 NFL season the five Chicago Bears with fantasy value are Allen Robinson, David Montgomery, Anthony Miller, Tarik Cohen, and the Chicago Bears D/ST.

Quick Links

Allen Robinson

Allen Robinson carried the Chicago Bears offense in 2019. Robinson ended the year as the WR8 PPR/ WR12 standard, all the while the Bears offense finished as the fourth worst in total yards per game at 296.8. Robinson was consistently targeted throughout the year. In seven games of the 2019 season, Robinson was targeted 10 or more times. The problem with the Bears offense and Robinson was the remaining nine games in which he was targeted less than 10 times. In fact, his targets in those nine games were the following: five, six, seven, seven, seven, seven, eight, and nine. The inconsistency in the Bears offense was mind-boggling and hurt Robinson’s chances of finishing the season as a top-five fantasy wide receiver. Robinson was the third most targeted player in the NFL, only behind Michael Thomas and Julio Jones. He received the targets in high volumes, but not on a consistent basis.

Games Played Receptions Targets Receiving Yards Touchdowns  Average PPG Fantasy Points
16 98 154 1147 7 15.9 PPR 254.9 PPR

FantasyData has Allen Robinson’s 2020 projections as 90 receptions on 131 targets for 1103 yards and 7 touchdowns, a total of 243.4 PPR fantasy points, finishing the year as the WR10 in PPR formats. This is very similar production to Robinson’s 2019, and not outside the realm of possibility.

Fantasy Football Calculator has Robinson’s ADP at 4.09, he is currently the 16th WR being drafted. He is slightly being undervalued, Robinson in the fourth round is a great pick, he can be your WR1 without a problem. The Chicago Bears need to figure out what they are doing at the quarterback position. However, this shouldn’t affect Robinson by any means. He is the clear cut number one wide receiver on the team whether Mitchell Trubisky or Nick Foles are throwing him the ball.

David Montgomery

David Montgomery’s rookie campaign was one to forget. As previously mentioned the Bears offense struggled with consistency, primarily in their run game. The offensive line woes hampered Montgomery’s success, as well as the playcalling. Montgomery managed to have four total games exceeding 75 rushing yards. With only two of those being 100-yard rushing games. Now 100-yard rushing games are the only measuring tool for a successful fantasy football running back. In PPR formats running backs can be serviceable through pass-catching alone. Unfortunately, Montgomery was nonexistent in the passing game as that role was given to teammate Tarik Cohen.

Montgomery finished the 2019 season as the RB 24 PPR/ RB 22 standard. He didn’t meet expectations, nor did the offense. However, the arrow is pointing up for his fantasy future.

Games Played Rushing attempts Rushing Yards  Targets/Receptions  Receiving Yards Total Touchdowns Average PPG Fantasy Points
16 242 889 35 / 25 185 7 12.6 PPR 201.2 PPR

FantasyData projections for David Montgomery have him finishing the season as the RB21. A slight uptick in carries at 272, 1092 yards, 7 rushing TDs, along with 30 catches for 231 yards and one receiving TD. This would total 208.3 PPR fantasy points for Montgomery, similar production to his rookie year. He has a current ADP of 4.06, RB23 drafted in PPR formats.

The Bears have signed 5 free agents offensive lineman drafted two more to beef up their run blocking. Adding veteran tight end Jimmy Graham and drafting tight end Cole Kmet with their second-round pick is also telling of the changes coming to the offense. The Bears are trying to improve their offense overall, keep an eye out for David Montgomery to have a better Sophmore season.

Anthony Miller

Anthony Miller’s sophomore season was riddled with injury and thus his statistics are less than stellar. Miller finished the season as the WR56 in PPR formats. The Bears selected the wide receiver with their second-round pick in 2018. The hype around the selection was enormous, and the Bears assumed they found their number two starting receiver. Miller took a significant step forward in 2019, building chemistry with Quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. His targets increased by 31, and his catches increased by 19. Unfortunately, health is the major deterrent to Miller’s fantasy production as he is frequently banged up and rehabbing injuries, or missing snaps on game day.

Games Played Receptions Targets Receiving Yards Touchdowns  Average PPG Fantasy Points
16 52 85 656 2 8.0 PPR 127.5 PPR

Health permitted, Miller is poised to have the best year of his young career. We project Miller to haul in 55 catches on 89 targets for 685 yards and 5 touchdowns, for a total of 155.5 PPR fantasy points These numbers can easily be a tad bit higher if Miller is healthy enough to play the majority of the snaps as the Bears receiver corps lacks any depth. With an ADP of 11.11, he is the 51st WR being drafted. Miller is being drafted exactly where is value is and is worth the late-round pick due to his opportunity as the WR2 on the Bears.

Tarik Cohen

Tarik Cohen ended the 2019 season as the RB27 PPR/ RB44 standard formats. That is a fairly large variance among the different league formats. It is important to note his value only comes in PPR leagues. Cohen’s specialist role is primarily the pass-catching back, which he does fairly well. Cohen was the second most targeted Chicago Bear and had the second-most receptions with 79.

Games Played Rushing attempts Rushing Yards  Targets/Receptions  Receiving Yards Total Touchdowns Average PPG Fantasy Points
16 64 213 104 / 79 456 3 10.2 PPR 163.9 PPR

In the 2020 season don’t expect Cohen to replicate statistics similar to 2019. Cordarrelle Patterson has worked with the running back group throughout training camp, and will be taking away some of the rushing attempts, and targets that Cohen received in 2019. With minimal volume, Cohen’s value slightly drops.

Cohen’s ADP sits at 8.03 the 37th RB taken in drafts. He is being drafted among the backups in the league ie: Tevin Coleman, Latavius Murray, and Alexander Mattison. The value is there in drafting Cohen, be sure to know what you are drafting. A pass-catching running back that can be inserted into your flex position when the matchup is right. He is not an every-week starter, but Cohen does score points and is a serviceable fantasy football running back.
