The New York Mets claimed outfielder Aaron Altherr off waivers from the Giants on Thursday. Altherr has just one hit in 30 at-bats with the Phillies and Giants this year. He had just one at-bat for the Giants. The Mets really could use the outfield help with both Michael Conforto (concussion) and Brandon Nimmo (neck) on the injured list. New York is mixing and matching with Rajai Davis, J.D. Davis, Carlos Gomez and Juan Lagares right now, but Altherr could get some playing time in the short term. He's still not attractive to fantasy owners, even in the deepest of leagues.
Aaron Altherr has been claimed by the Giants a week after being DFA'd by the Phillies. He has struggled over the past two seasons. However, he is only two years removed from a season where he put up 19 home runs with the Phillies. He is out of options so the Giants have claimed him with the intention of keeping him in the Majors. A fresh start with the Giants could be just what the doctor ordered for Altherr, as he looks to find a spot in the lineup. He is worth keeping an eye on in very deep fantasy leagues and NL-only leagues.
The Philadelphia Phillies activated outfielder Odubel Herrera (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list on Saturday and designated outfielder Aaron Altherr for assignment in a corresponding move. Altherr had just one hit and nine strikeouts in his 29 at-bats this year. Herrera should return to starting center field duties, but he hasn't done much for his fantasy owners this year with his .246 average, one homer, seven steals and no stolen bases in 69 at-bats.
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Aaron Altherr (toe) suffered a ligament tear in his right big toe when he crashed into the outfield wall on Monday. With only six games left in the season, he will not play again this year. It's a fitting end to what was a big disappointment of a season for the 27-year-old, who hit only .181/.295/.333 with eight home runs and 38 RBI in 105 games. That's after he had twice as many homers (19) and 65 RBI while hitting .272 in 107 games last year.
In addition to a right big toe sprain and bruised right knee from crashing into the outfield wall on Monday, Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Aaron Altherr could also have a concussion. With the regular season finale this Sunday, Altherr will almost certainly be shut down now. He had a massively disappointing season while hitting under .200 and being sent to the minors for a while to work on his swing. He won't be a popular late-round bounce-back candidate in mixed leagues in 2019.
Aaron Altherr Crashes Into Wall, Leaves Game Early
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Aaron Altherr (knee, toe) left the game early on Monday with a right big toe sprain and a bruised right knee after crashing into the outfield wall. Altherr was hitless with two strikeouts in his two plate appearances before departing the contest. He has had a brutal season, hitting just .181/.295/.333 with eight home runs and 38 RBI in 104 games. With the regular season finale on Sunday, there's a chance that Altherr's 2018 season is over.
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Aaron Altherr is back in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the New York Mets. Altherr has not performed well this season, but does hit better against left-handed pitching. He'll bat fifth and play right field versus lefty Steven Matz. Altherr is worth considering for DFS contests, since he seems to hit left-handed pitching pretty well.
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Aaron Altherr remains in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Miami Marlins. Altherr went 4-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI in Friday's victory over the Marlins. He's basically only a part-time player that hits against left-handed pitching. Altherr will bat sixth and play left field against lefty Jarlin Garcia. He's worth a look in DFS contests on Saturday.
Philadelphia Phillies outfielders Jose Bautista and Aaron Altherr are in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Miami Marlins. Both are part-time players, but will be in the lineup against the left-handed starter. Bautista will bat third and play right field, while Altherr will bat sixth and play left field versus lefty Wei-Yin Chen. Neither player is a reliable fantasy option, but if you're looking for cheap production Bautista might be able to help on Friday. Chen has been awful on the road this season, so Bautista has a good chance to do something productive.
Philadelphia Phillies outfielders Jose Bautista and Aaron Altherr will be in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the New York Mets. Roman Quinn (foot) is out of the lineup and Odubel Herrera (rest) will join him on the bench. Bautista will bat cleanup and play right field, while Altherr bats third and plays center field against lefty Steven Matz. Both players are supposed to hit left-handed pitching well, but neither has played even close to mediocre this season. Bautista and Altherr should probably be avoided for fantasy purposes.
