Jose Bautista News
Outfielder Jose Bautista signed a one-day contract with the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday to retire with the team. Bautista spent 10 of his 15 big-league seasons with the Blue Jays and hit .253/.372/.506 with an .878 OPS, 288 home runs and 766 RBI with Toronto in 1,235 games played. In his prime, Joey Bats was one of the elite sluggers in Major League Baseball, and he finished his playing career hitting .247/.361/.475 with an .836 OPS, 344 home runs and 975 RBI in 1,798 games played. Bautista made six straight All-Star teams (all with Toronto) from 2010-15. His final major-league season was in 2018, when he spent time with the Atlanta Braves, New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies.
Retired outfielder Jose Bautista quieted rumors about him coming back as a pitcher in an interview with Sirius MLB Network Radio. Earlier in the week, it was reported that Bautista was working out with Mets pitcher Marcus Stroman with intentions of coming back as a two-way player. While it is unlikely to see Bautista on the mound anytime soon, he did leave open the possibility of making a return to the Big Leagues. He mentioned that if a team called about him coming back as a two-way player he'd be dumb to say no, but he is not planning to come back as a pitcher as of now.
Philadelphia Phillies outfielders Jose Bautista and Aaron Altherr are in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Miami Marlins. Both are part-time players, but will be in the lineup against the left-handed starter. Bautista will bat third and play right field, while Altherr will bat sixth and play left field versus lefty Wei-Yin Chen. Neither player is a reliable fantasy option, but if you're looking for cheap production Bautista might be able to help on Friday. Chen has been awful on the road this season, so Bautista has a good chance to do something productive.
