Jose Bautista Retires With Blue Jays

Outfielder Jose Bautista signed a one-day contract with the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday to retire with the team. Bautista spent 10 of his 15 big-league seasons with the Blue Jays and hit .253/.372/.506 with an .878 OPS, 288 home runs and 766 RBI with Toronto in 1,235 games played. In his prime, Joey Bats was one of the elite sluggers in Major League Baseball, and he finished his playing career hitting .247/.361/.475 with an .836 OPS, 344 home runs and 975 RBI in 1,798 games played. Bautista made six straight All-Star teams (all with Toronto) from 2010-15. His final major-league season was in 2018, when he spent time with the Atlanta Braves, New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies.

Jose Bautista Not Expecting To Come Back As Pitcher

Retired outfielder Jose Bautista quieted rumors about him coming back as a pitcher in an interview with Sirius MLB Network Radio. Earlier in the week, it was reported that Bautista was working out with Mets pitcher Marcus Stroman with intentions of coming back as a two-way player. While it is unlikely to see Bautista on the mound anytime soon, he did leave open the possibility of making a return to the Big Leagues. He mentioned that if a team called about him coming back as a two-way player he'd be dumb to say no, but he is not planning to come back as a pitcher as of now.

Jose Bautista, Aaron Altherr Starting Friday

Philadelphia Phillies outfielders Jose Bautista and Aaron Altherr are in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Miami Marlins. Both are part-time players, but will be in the lineup against the left-handed starter. Bautista will bat third and play right field, while Altherr will bat sixth and play left field versus lefty Wei-Yin Chen. Neither player is a reliable fantasy option, but if you're looking for cheap production Bautista might be able to help on Friday. Chen has been awful on the road this season, so Bautista has a good chance to do something productive.

Jose Bautista, Aaron Altherr Starting on Friday

Philadelphia Phillies outfielders Jose Bautista and Aaron Altherr will be in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the New York Mets. Roman Quinn (foot) is out of the lineup and Odubel Herrera (rest) will join him on the bench. Bautista will bat cleanup and play right field, while Altherr bats third and plays center field against lefty Steven Matz. Both players are supposed to hit left-handed pitching well, but neither has played even close to mediocre this season. Bautista and Altherr should probably be avoided for fantasy purposes.

Jose Bautista is Starting on Wednesday

Philadelphia Phillies corner infielder/outfielder Jose Bautista will make his first start in a Philly uniform on Wednesday. He'll bat sixth and play right field versus lefty Gio Gonzalez. Nick Williams and Odubel Herrera will get the night off on Wednesday. Roman Quinn will lead off and play center field. Both players should be cheap DFS options for Wednesday. However, Quinn likely has more upside because he's leading off.

Jose Bautista Strikes Out In Phillies Debut

Philadelphia Phillies veteran Jose Bautista made his club debut on Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park against the Washington Nationals, striking out in a pinch-hit role. The Dominican native was acquired from the New York Mets after clearing waivers, remaining in the NL East after also playing with the Atlanta Braves this year. The 37-year-old is a far cry from the All-Star slugger that he was in Toronto, but can provide some solid power in a reduced role off the bench. While he's hitting .196 this season, Bautista has 11 home runs and 42 RBI.

Phillies Acquire Jose Bautista

The Philadelphia Phillies acquired outfielder Jose Bautista from the New York Mets on Tuesday in exchange for a player to be named or cash considerations. Joey Bats made a little noise with the Mets, but he's hitting just .196/.339/.364 with 11 home runs and 42 RBI on the season. He'll mainly be a bat off the bench for the contending Phillies, which hurts his already weak fantasy value.

Phillies Claim Jose Bautista On Waivers

The Philadelphia Phillies have claimed New York Mets outfielder Jose Bautista on revocable trade waivers, according to sources. The two teams are discussing a trade, but it would need to be finalized by Tuesday. The veteran outfielder slumped badly at the start of August but has a .738 OPS in has last 14 games. Overall this year, Bautista is hitting .199/.340/.368 with 11 home runs and 42 RBI in 94 games with the Braves and Mets. He can still be an option in NL-only leagues for his power, but not much else.

Jose Bautista Will Lead Off on Wednesday

New York Mets corner infielder/outfielder Jose Bautista will lead off and play right field versus righty Casey Kelly on Wednesday. Bautista is hitting just .176/.299/.297 over the last month, but will bat first for some reason. Possibly the Mets are just trying to shake up their lineup to create some offense. Regardless, Bautista is worth a look in DFS contests, while batting first against a below average pitcher.

Jose Bautista Ties MLB Record on Thursday

New York Mets outfielder Jose Bautista helped crush the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday with a record performance at the plate. Bautista went 3-for-4 with a home run, double, three runs scored and seven RBI off the bench, tying an MLB record. Bautista entered the game for Brandon Nimmo after he was hit by a pitch and proceeded to club a grand slam in the fifth inning. The veteran certainly turned back the clock for one day and contributed to the 24-4 thrashing of Philadelphia. It remains to be seen where Bautista will end up in 2019, but he will want to finish strong in New York.
