Adam Eaton News

Adam Eaton Returns Wednesday

Washington Nationals outfielder Adam Eaton (hamstring) returned to Grapefruit League play on Wednesday as the designated hitter and went 0-for-3 with a strikeout against the Astros. If Eaton can avoid any setbacks with his hamstring, he should be fine for Opening Day. Trea Turner is expected to lead off in 2020, with Eaton hitting second. The 31-year-old is a contact hitter that should provide a useful average, plenty of runs and modest power and speed numbers for the Nats if he can stay healthy. You could do worse as you build outfield depth in mixed leagues. Eaton's ADP currently sits at 184.2.

Adam Eaton Leaves With Tight Hamstring

Washington Nationals outfielder Adam Eaton left Tuesday's spring training game with a tight left hamstring. Manager Davey Martinez said that Eaton would like have stayed in a regular season game, but the team is playing things cautiously. Thus, this injury is unlikely to turn into anything major. Eaton should hit near the top of the Nationals order again this year and is a modest but underrated source of average, power, and speed. He belongs on a roster in a 12-team, five-man outfield format or deeper and is most valuable in OBP leagues.

Nats Pick Up Options On Sean Doolittle, Adam Eaton

The Washington Nationals picked up their 2020 options on closer Sean Doolittle ($6.5 million) and outfielder Adam Eaton ($9.5 million). Doolittle had a down year in 2019 and struggled with injuries, posting a 4.05 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 29 saves and 66 K's in 60 innings. The left-hander shared closing duties with Daniel Hudson late in the season, which will make him less attractive as a fantasy closer going into 2020 unless the Nationals are adamant that he will return to the ninth-inning role full time. Hudson is also a free agent this winter. Eaton stayed healthy and played in 151 games, hitting .279/.365/.428 with 15 home runs, 49 RBI, 103 runs and 15 stolen bases. He contributes modestly across all categories and is mainly useful for his speed and runs atop Washington's lineup.
