Dodgers Acquire Ariel Hernandez in Trade with Cincinnati
The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired relief pitcher Ariel Hernandez from the Cincinnati Reds for relief pitcher Zach Neal and first baseman Idanbel Isabel. Hernandez has struggled during his time in the major leagues, appearing in 19 games and pitching to a 5.18 ERA. However, he does have a K/9 of 10.7 and could be a sneaky pickup for Los Angeles if he could figure out his control.
Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Ariel Hernandez was traded from the Cincinnati Reds for minor leaguer pitcher Zach Neal and first baseman Ibandel Isabel. Hernandez was DFA'ed by the Reds this past week. He has a fastball that easily touches 100 mph and a big power curve. In 24 1/3 innings for the Reds last season, opponents had a measly .165 average against him. He had 29 K but, like most young flamethrowers, was also wild. He walked 22 batters, which won't fly in the bigs. The Dodgers are looking for any bullpen they can get, so he'll get some seasoning in the minors before a likely mid-season call-up. He's worth monitoring in deep leagues and could be the heir apparent to Kenley Jansen.
