Armando Alvarez Inks Minor-League Deal With Minnesota
According to MiLB Central, the Minnesota Twins have signed third baseman Armando Alvarez to a minor-league contract. Alvarez made his major league debut last season with the Oakland Athletics. Across 16 games in the bigs, the 30-year-old posted a .242/.282/.270 slash line with one double and one stolen base. Across 75 games with Triple-A Las Vegas last summer, Alvarez held a .315/.407/.560 line with 20 doubles, 15 home runs, and five stolen bases. Through 412 career games at the Triple-A level, the Eastern Kentucky product has posted a .280/.345/.492 line. Fantasy managers should expect Alvarez to compete for a spot on the Opening Day roster during spring training, given his productive play at Triple-A last season.
Prior to the start of the second half of the season, the Oakland Athletics have optioned third baseman Armando Alvarez to Triple-A Las Vegas. The 30-year-old career minor leaguer made his big-league debut a few weeks ago and went 6-for-23 with one RBI during his stay. With Alvarez off to Las Vegas, the Athletics are set to promote their No. 1 prospect, shortstop Jacob Wilson. Wilson is worthy of a speculative add in all formats, while Alvarez can safely remain on the waiver wire.
The Oakland Athletics signed corner infielders Armando Alvarez and Drew Lugbauer to minor-league deals on Wednesday that includes non-roster invitations to major-league spring training next year. Alvarez, 29, hit an impressive .308 (80-for-260) with 18 home runs, 56 RBI, eight steals and 51 runs scored in 74 games for Triple-A Sacramento in the San Francisco Giants organization in 2023. He has the ability to play both third base and first base. Lugbauer, 27, is a left-handed-hitting first baseman was even more impressive in the minors with the Atlanta Braves last season, clubbing 25 home runs and driving in 73 runs in 94 games with Double-A Mississippi and Triple-A Gwinnett. Both players will be fighting to get to the big leagues for the first time in their careers with the rebuilding A's in 2024.
