Ben Revere News

Zack Granite Optioned, Ben Revere Released

The Texas Rangers optioned outfielder Zack Granite to Triple-A Nashville and released outfielder Ben Revere on Tuesday. Granite hit just .214 (6-for-28) with no homers and no RBI, but he did steal four bases. He'll serve as organizational depth and can give the Rangers speed off the bench at some point this year. The 30-year-old Revere hit .286 (6-for-21) with no homers and an RBI this spring, but the Rangers would prefer to keep younger options for outfield depth.

Ben Revere In Texas With Plenty Left To Prove

The Texas Rangers signed outfielder Ben Revere to a minor-league contract on Monday, and he still feels he has plenty left in the tank at 30 years old. "Major League Baseball seems to think guys over 30 can't play. Some of those guys are still in their prime. It's a shock to me they won't trust guys over 30 and try to go younger instead. Guys over 30 can still play and compete and help you win games," Revere said. The veteran last appeared in the majors in 2017 with the Angels, hitting .275 with a homer, 20 RBI and 21 stolen bases over 109 games. He spent the entire 2018 season with Triple-A Salt Lake. Revere could find his way back to the majors in Texas, but right now he warrants little in the way of fantasy consideration.

Angels Release Ben Revere

The Los Angeles Angels have released outfielder Ben Revere on Thursday. Revere never saw time in the big leagues with the Angels this year and was hitting .277 with three home runs, 18 RBI and two steals over 40 games with Triple-A Salt Lake in 2018. He can provide speed and be a defensive replacement for another team, but it's unlikely he'll be a fantasy asset for the rest of the season.

Angels Add Ben Revere on Minor League Deal

The Los Angeles Angels have added outfielder Ben Revere on a minor league deal. Revere spent 2017 with the Angels, stealing 21 bases and hitting .275 in a part time role. He is not likely to see the field much this season however, with Chris Young locked in as the fourth outfielder. If injuries strike and Revere finds himself in a semi-regular role, he could be worth an add in AL-only formats for teams in need of speed. Otherwise, leave him alone.

Reds Option Cody Reed, Release Ben Revere

The Cincinnati Reds made a bevy of roster moves on Sunday. Among the most notable, left-hander Cody Reed was optioned to Triple-A and veteran outfielder Ben Revere has been released. Reed has a special arm but has struggled with his control at the big league level. He's expected to be one of the first names considered if the club needs to add a starter to the rotation. Revere was reassigned to minor league camp earlier in the week after going just 3-for-24 at the plate this spring. He stole 21 bases with the Angels in 2017 and should find a team interested in his services.

Ben Revere In The Mix For A Bench Spot

Cincinnati Reds manager Bryan Price told reporters that recently-signed veteran outfielder Ben Revere is in the running for a spot with the club, but it will not be as a starter. Revere is in the mix for a reserve outfielder position, with Price stating, "Ben will compete to offer a component we may lack speed off the bench, veteran pinch-hit at-bat. When he gets some starts, hes a guy we can plug in and continue to perform at a high level. Revere boasts a .284 career average and has plenty of speed, but he won't be a viable fantasy asset if he isn't playing every day. It would take an injury to one of Billy Hamilton, Adam Duvallor Scott Schebler for Revere to see regular playing time.

Ben Revere Signs With Reds

Free-agent outfielder Ben Revere signed with the Cincinnati Reds, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports. Heyman also confirms that this was a minor league deal with a spring training invite and that Revere can make up to $1.5 million this season. Revere played for the Angels last season, stealing 21 bases in 109 games and hitting .275. It is unlikely that Revere gets significant playing time in Cincinnati, but his speed is valuable as a streamer or in DFS games.

Ben Revere Day-To-Day with Knee Contusion

Angels outfielder Ben Revere was removed from Tuesday's game after fouling a ball off his left knee. Cameron Maybin, who was getting the day off, entered the game in Revere's place. Revere has been diagnosed with a left knee contusion and is day-to-day, according to manager Mike Scioscia. Revere has swiped 20 bases on the year but his hitting a disappointing .255/.292/.327 with 33 runs scored in 251 at-bats, primarily as a fourth outfielder. He is not rosterable in most fantasy formats, but would be worth a look in deep mixed and AL-only leagues if an injury pushed him into an everyday role.

Eric Young Draws Another Start, Taking Over for Ben Revere in LF

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Eric Young Jr. is drawing another start tonight, hitting seventh and playing left field against starter Masahiro Tanaka and the Yankees. Young has hit extremely well since his season debut, and it looks like his hot start has earned him an everyday role over struggling veteran outfielder Ben Revere. With outfielder Cameron Maybin back and taking over center field in Mike Trout's absence, there was an open competition between Young and Revere. Young has hit .318/.412/.523 since being recalled with two home runs and four steals. While those numbers are likely unsustainable (he is a career .248 hitter in 1550 at-bats), he looks to have the starting job secured. Revere has continually struggled when given opportunities, and his season line is down to .205/.217/.299 with four steals. Revere can be dropped in all formats, and Young is worth a look in deep mixed leagues and AL-only formats, at least while he is hot.
