Blade Tidwell Heading to San Francisco

The San Francisco Giants acquired right-handed pitching prospect Blade Tidwell, reliever Jose Butto and outfield prospect Drew Gilbert from the New York Mets on Wednesday in exchange for right-handed reliever Tyler Rogers, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman. It's a massive haul for the Giants in exchange for a veteran submariner. The 24-year-old Tidwell was ranked as the Mets' No. 10 prospect, per MLB Pipeline. The former second-rounder in 2022 out of Tennessee made his big-league debut with the Mets this year and allowed 15 earned runs on 23 hits (four homers) while walking 10 and striking out 10 in four appearances (two starts). He's expected to start at Triple-A Sacramento, but Tidwell has a clearer path to a rotation spot in the big leagues in the Bay Area. Tidwell will need to improve his walk rate to get his shot in San Francisco.

Blade Tidwell Rejoining Mets

SNY's Andy Martino reports that New York Mets No. 15 overall prospect, pitcher Blade Tidwell, will rejoin the big-league roster on Friday for the team's series opener with the hosting Pittsburgh Pirates. The news comes as New York has dealt with a myriad of pitching injuries -- the latest of which, affecting starter Griffin Canning (Achilles). Canning isn't the Mets' only concern, with Kodai Senga (hamstring) and Tylor Megill (elbow) still shelved -- not to mention the recent news regarding the loose foreign body rolling around in Sean Manaea's (elbow, oblique) elbow. For now, Tidwell will be available out of the bullpen, but he could take Canning's vacant spot in the rotation if the Amazin's decide to go in that direction. He sports a ghastly 9.82 ERA and 2.59 WHIP through two starts (7 1/3 innings) in his debut.

Blade Tidwell Allows Three Runs in Loss

New York Mets pitching prospect Blade Tidwell allowed three runs on four hits and one walk while striking out five in Tuesday's 5-3 loss against Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Tidwell came in to pitch after opener Dedniel Nu ez and took the loss as he surrendered a good amount of hard contact, allowing a 91.3 average exit velocity. He was able to generate 10 whiffs on 38 swings and deliver in the strikeout category. This start brings the 24-year-old's season ERA to 4.14 to go with a 1.21 WHIP and a 69:24 K:BB in 58.2 innings. Tidwell made his MLB debut on May 4 and coughed up six runs in 3.2 innings, but we will likely see him in the majors again later in the summer.

Blade Tidwell Promoted To Major Leagues

The New York Mets are promoting right-handed pitching prospect Blade Tidwell to the major league roster. Mike Mayer of Metsmerized noted that manager Carlos Mendoza discussed the possibility of using a spot starter over the weekend. Tidwell has spent the start of the campaign with Triple-A Syracuse. Through his first 27 frames of work, the right-hander has struck out 37 batters and held a 5.00 ERA with a 1.33 WHIP. In 2024, the Tennessee product made his Triple-A debut and held an underwhelming 5.93 ERA with a 1.56 WHIP across 85 innings of work. Across this stint, the No. 16-ranked prospect in the system struck out 77 batters. Given his increasing strikeout potential, Tidwell could be worth a look as a streaming option in deeper formats if he is given a start.

Blade Tidwell Strikes Out Nine On Sunday

New York Mets pitching prospect Blade Tidwell struck out nine batters across 4 1/3 shutout innings during his start against Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday evening. In his outing, Tidwell allowed just two hits and one free pass. This was a strong bounce-back outing for Tidwell, as he posted a modest 6.92 ERA and a 1.85 WHIP across his previous 13 innings (three starts) this season. Through 22 1/3 total innings this season with Triple-A Syracuse, the former second-round selection has held a 4.43 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP. He has tallied 28 punchouts and served up just 10 free passes. Last summer, the Tennessee product spent time with Double-A before earning his first taste of Triple-A ball. During his first look at Triple-A, the right-hander held a high 5.93 ERA with a 1.56 WHIP. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on his status at Triple-A, as he should be in the mix for his MLB debut later this summer.

Blade Tidwell, Dom Hamel Will Compete For 2025 Debut

According to Will Sammon of The Athletic, New York Mets pitching prospects Blade Tidwell and Dom Hamel should compete for a major league debut during the 2025 season. Sammon noted that he expects both of these young arms to be "merit consideration" when the Mets need additional pitching depth later in the season. While both pitchers will have an opportunity to showcase their talents in spring training, they will likely be sent to Triple-A Syracuse to begin the season. Tidwell, the No. 8 ranked prospect in the system, performed very well at Double-A last summer, holding a strong 2.41 ERA with a 1.07 WHIP across 37 1/3 innings. However, during his first look at Triple-A, the Tennessee product took a step back as he posted a 5.93 ERA with a 1.56 WHIP. Similar to Tidwell, Hamel, the No. 15 ranked prospect in the system, struggled once he moved up to Triple-A. Over his first look at Triple-A, Hamel posted a 6.79 ERA with a 1.75 WHIP. Fantasy managers in deeper NL-only formats should monitor their progression at Triple-A, as they could become worthy stash candidates once they find their footing.

Blade Tidwell Struggling At Triple-A

New York Mets starting pitching prospect Blade Tidwell has struggled through his first brief taste of Triple-A ball. The former second-round draft pick was promoted to Triple-A Syracuse on May 21 after logging two strong stints at Double-A over the past two seasons. Through his first 35 frames at the top level of the minors, the Tennessee product has held a disappointing 5.35 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, and a 27:25 BB:K ratio. Tidwell logged his best start on May 29 as he tossed six shutout frames but has allowed at least three earned runs in every start since then. The right-hander is considered the 11th-best prospect in the Mets system on MLB.com and could contented for a late-season major league debut if he can work out these early struggles.

Blade Tidwell Promoted To Triple-A

The New York Mets promoted pitching prospect Blade Tidwell to Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday. Tidwell, 22, is the Mets No. 10 prospect and has been having an excellent season for Double-A Binghamton. Over seven games (five starts), the right-hander went 2-4 with an impressive 2.41 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 44 strikeouts over 37 1/3 innings. Tidwell ate up Double-A with only one bad start this season and it is likely that he can reach the big-league roster if he carries over his success in Binghamton to Syracuse. Tidwell's four seam fastball has become his top pitch and helped him rack up many strikeouts, but he still needs to improve his secondary pitches to continue his success. For now, Tidwell is most serviceable in dynasty leagues.

Blade Tidwell Posts Another Strong Outing

New York Mets starting pitching prospect Blade Tidwell had another strong outing on Thursday as he tossed six innings of one-run ball and allowed just four hits, one free pass, and struck out six. This was a great bounce-back performance for the 22-year-old, as he had a season-high five earned runs in his previous start. Removing that one outlier performance, Tidwell has a 1.27 ERA, 0.85 WHIP, and a 42:11 K:BB through 35 1/3 innings. Tidwell is ranked as the 11th-best prospect in the New York system on MLB Pipeline and is projected to reach the major leagues later this summer. All fantasy managers should monitor him, as he could be promoted to Triple-A fairly soon and is then just one step away from reaching the big leagues.

Blade Tidwell Showing High Strikeout Potential

New York Mets starting pitching prospect Blade Tidwell has continued to flash high-strikeout potential this season at Double-A and is quickly emerging as a top prospect in the Mets pipeline. In 29 innings at Double-A Binghamton, Tidwell has posted a 1.23 ERA and 0.85 WHIP with 36 strikeouts and ten walks. Last season, at Double-A, the 22-year-old struck out 41 batters in 34 innings but posted a much higher 4.72 ERA and 1.43 WHIP. The former Tennessee Volunteer has still posted strong strikeout numbers this season but with much-improved ratios. Tidwell, who is ranked as the tenth overall prospect, should be promoted to Triple-A fairly soon and could even make a case for a late-season debut in Queens.
