Jason Foley Knocks Down 27th Save

Detroit Tigers closer Jason Foley tossed a perfect ninth inning to earn the save in a 4-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday. Foley didn't allow a baserunner and struck out a pair in his inning of work. The 28-year-old hasn't been dominant in the closer role, but he's been the best Detroit has and has gotten the job done most of the time, converting on 27 of his 31 save chances. With the Tigers playing better of late, Foley has actually become one of the best sources of saves in September, notching eight of them in the month. It will be interesting to see if the Tigers are happy with Foley as their closer come next year because if they are he should be a relatively sought-after fantasy asset.

Jason Foley Picks Up 21st Save Of Season

Detroit Tigers closer Jason Foley picked up his 21st save of the season on Saturday as the Tigers beat the Oakland Athletics 2-1. Foley replaced Sean Guenther with one out in the ninth, gave up a single and recorded one strikeout on his way to securing the save. Foley now has a 2.92 ERA and ranks 10th in the AL in saves. With 21 saves in 24 opportunities, Foley has shown he can slam the door shut when given the opportunity. His fantasy value is still held back by the limited amount of opportunities he has with the Tigers, but he remains a solid option when given the chance. Fantasy managers looking for help in the closer role may want to look at Foley for the coming week as he may have more opportunities than normal coming up with the Colorado Rockies set to visit Detroit this week.

Jason Foley Secures Save No. 16

Detroit Tigers closer Jason Foley secured a save in Thursday's win over the visiting Seattle Mariners at Comerica Park, striking out one batter in a clean ninth inning. Somewhat shockingly, it was his first converted save since way back on July 10. Foley induced a groundout from M's utility man Dylan Moore for the final out, safeguarding the Tigers' 2-1 win over Seattle on Thursday. The hard-throwing 28-year-old right-hander remains the best bet for saves out of Detroit's bullpen, but he does also have eight holds this year, so he hasn't been restricted to closing duties. Overall, Foley has a 3.48 ERA and 1.30 WHIP with 32 punchouts and 15 walks in 44 frames while going 16-for-19 on save chances for the Tigers this year.

Jason Foley Picks Up A Save On Friday

Detroit Tigers right-hander Jason Foley got the final out of a 6-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays to earn the save on Friday. With runners on first and third, Foley needed just three pitches to induce a Danny Jansen groundout to secure the win for his team. The 28-year-old has been steady at the back of the Detroit bullpen this season, posting a 2-1 record, 2.41 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, and 16 strikeouts over 18 2/3 innings of work while converting 11 of his 12 save opportunities. While he doesn't post big strikeout numbers, Foley has fantasy value as Detroit's primary closer moving forward.

Jason Foley Earns 10th Save Monday

Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Jason Foley earned his 10th save of the season in Monday's 6-5 win over the Marlins. Foley came in to pitch the top of the ninth inning up by one and delivered a 1-2-3 outing with a strikeout. After starting the season as the team's closer, the Tigers have mixed up their bullpen usage over the past couple of weeks. However, Foley has been the team's best reliever, converting all but one save opportunity with a 2.20 ERA, an 8.27 K/9 rate, and a 3.86 BB/9 rate. He still seems like the pitcher to roster for fantasy purposes and may be able to earn the closer's role back if he can string together several solid performances.

Jason Foley Notches Seventh Save Of Season Tuesday

Detroit Tigers closer Jason Foley stayed perfect in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Rays, earning his seventh save. Foley came in to pitch the bottom of the ninth inning up by two and delivered a 1-2-3 performance with a strikeout. The 28-year-old has had a spotless start to the season, converting all of his save opportunities with a 2-0 record and a 0.00 ERA, a 9.00 K/9 rate, and a 4.91 BB/9 rate. The walk rate is higher than fantasy managers would prefer, but everything else has been fantastic.

Jason Foley Picks Up Another Save On Sunday

Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Jason Foley collected his second save of the season on Sunday, helping the team to a 3-2 win over the Chicago White Sox. Foley didn't allow a baserunner and didn't strike out anyone either in his two-thirds of an inning. The closer job in Detroit may be Foley's to lose, as the 28-year-old has gotten both of the Tigers opportunities and converted both. It's helped that his main competition, Alex Lange, walked three batters and retired only one in his only appearance this year. Foley should be rostered in any league where saves matter at this point.

Jason Foley Earns The Save For Tigers

Detroit Tigers reliever Jason Foley picked up the save in a 1-0 win over the White Sox on Thursday. It was Foley who entered the game with one out in the bottom of the ninth, not the team's projected closer Alex Lange, with Foley striking out the only two batters he faced. Lange had his share of struggles last season and his grip on the closer role was tenuous, but neither pitcher had much success this spring. It's unclear at this point why Lange didn't pitch, as offseason additions Shelby Miller and Andrew Chafin also got work in Thursday's game. Regardless, it seems Jason Foley could be in line for additional save opportunities after Thursday's performance and will be a popular waiver wire add.

Jason Foley Dealing With Arm Fatigue

Detroit Tigers manager A.J. Hinch stated that reliever Jason Foley, who was scheduled to pitch in Sunday's Grapefruit League matchup with the Mets, did not pitch due to "mid-camp pitching fatigue." At least it doesn't sound serious, but on the other hand, fatigue this early in the season doesn't seem to bode well for the rest of the year. Nevertheless, it doesn't sound like Foley is in danger of missing any regular season action at this point. Foley is currently used as a setup reliever, but closer Alex Lange's struggles both last year and this spring could make Foley a candidate to take over as closer if Lange relinquishes the job. Foley pitched well last season for the Tigers with a 2.61 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in 69 IP, even collecting seven saves along the way.

Jason Foley Notches Save No. 5

Detroit Tigers right-hander Jason Foley allowed one hit across a scoreless 1 2/3 innings to earn the save during Saturday's 6-2 win over the Boston Red Sox. Foley entered the game in the eighth inning to protect a four-run lead. The 27-year-old allowed one hit but was able to record a four-out save to secure Detroit's win. It was Foley's fifth save of the season. He owns a 2.09 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and 46 strikeouts over 51 1/3 innings in 2023. Foley was reinstated from the bereavement list and could see some additional save opportunities, with current closer Alex Lange walking nine batters over his last three games.
