Daniel Susac, Patrick Bailey Could Split Time Behind the Plate

San Francisco Giants manager Tony Vitello said on Thursday that catchers Daniel Susac and Patrick Bailey might start splitting time and alternating behind the plate, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle. Bailey got the start in Thursday's series finale against the Cincinnati Reds after Susac started on Wednesday night for the Gigantes. Bailey is the superior defensive catcher in San Fran, but Susac has earned more playing time by starting his MLB career 9-for-16 (.563) at the plate with a double, triple, five RBI, and a run scored in his first eight games played. Bailey, meanwhile, is just 6-for-44 (.136) with an RBI, a stolen base, three runs scored, three walks, and six strikeouts in 14 games played. Susac is the one to target in deep two-catcher leagues, although his fantasy upside will be limited due to what will likely be a 50/50 split with Bailey. The 24-year-old was a former 19th overall pick by the Athletics in 2022 out of the University of Arizona.

Daniel Susac Placed on Triple-A Injured List

Athletics catching prospect Daniel Susac (undisclosed) was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday. The nature of the injury is not clear, but if he can make it a minimum stay on the IL, then he could return in time for the Pacific Coast League playoffs. The Athletics' 12th-ranked prospect is having a fine season for the Aviators, hitting .275 with an .832 OPS, 18 home runs, and even seven steals. A 26.8 percent strikeout rate is something to keep an eye on, as that likely won't get better at the major league level, and he could be there as soon as 2026.

Daniel Susac Named Pacific Coast League Hitter Of The Week

Athletics catching prospect Daniel Susac enjoyed an impressive week en route to earning Pacific Coast League Hitter of the Week honors. Over his last seven contests, Susac has begun to find his power, as he went deep three times and added three doubles. During this power surge, the 23-year-old backstop held a .400/.438/.800 slash line with 10 RBI. Before this surge, Susac held an underwhelming .174/.240/.217 slash line. The former 19th overall pick spent his entire 2024 campaign with Double-A Midland and was able to earn a promotion to Triple-A Las Vegas to open the 2025 season. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his progression, but it appears Susac has begun to turn the corner on his slow start. If the Arizona product continues to hit for power, he could push for an MLB debut later this season.

Daniel Susac Slug Two Homers For Double-A Midland

Oakland Athletics catcher prospect Daniel Susac was 4-for-5 with two homers and five RBI for Double-A Midland on Monday. The 23-year-old is hitting .289 with five homers and 23 RBI at Midland this season. The Athletics' No. 5 prospect was dialed in during June with a .340 batting average during the month and that production transitioned into the first game in July. The 2022 first-round pick of Oakland could be their catcher of the future. He could be looking at an MLB debut by next season if he continues to progress and is a name to monitor at a thin fantasy position.

Daniel Susac Struggling At Double-A

Oakland Athletics catcher prospect Daniel Susac has been struggling at Double-A this season. After impressing in his limited taste of Double-A ball last season with a .280/.304/.360 he has posted a mere .224/.258/.271 line this season. In addition, this season, he holds a rough 3:31 BB:K ratio. The 23-year-old has performed well in every level of the minor leagues so this may only be a small roadblock in his development as he posted an impressive .303/.373/.437 line with seven long balls at High-A and a .298/.354/.404 line in Single-A. Susac is estimated to reach the major leagues next season, according to MLB Pipeline, and is a name to monitor in dynasty formats if he can get himself back on track.
