Drew Gilbert Hits First Career MLB Home Run

San Francisco Giants outfield prospect Drew Gilbert went 2-for-4 with his first-career home run during their victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday afternoon. Gilbert would hit a solo shot in the seventh inning off Tampa Bay relief pitcher Mason Englert. Before Sunday's two-hit effort, Gilbert got off to a slow start in the majors. Through his first seven MLB games, Gilbert went 1-for-18 at the dish with a 5:0 K:BB and added a stolen base. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as he is continuing to see close to every day at-bats. Earlier in the season at the Triple-A level, Gilbert held a .253/.363/.448 line with an .811 OPS and 12 home runs. He remains a target reserved for deeper formats given his slow start to his MLB career.

Drew Gilbert to Make MLB Debut on Friday

San Francisco Giants outfield prospect Drew Gilbert has been promoted to the major league roster and is slated to bat ninth in his MLB debut on Friday evening when the Giants face the Washington Nationals. Gilbert was traded from the New York Mets earlier this season in a deal that sent relief pitcher Tyler Rogers to Queens. Gilbert was once selected in the first round with the 28th overall pick by the Houston Astros out of Tennessee. Through 87 games at Triple-A this season, spent mainly in Syracuse, Gilbert posted a strong .254/.363/.448 line with an .811 OPS. During this stretch, Gilbert launched 12 home runs and added 18 doubles. During the 2024 campaign, he held a much lower .706 OPS at Triple-A. With Jerar Encarnacion (hamstring) on the 10-day IL, Gilbert could carve out a role for the time being. He is worth adding in all NL-only leagues for the time being.

Giants Land Drew Gilbert in Deadline Deal With Mets

The San Francisco Giants acquired outfield prospect Drew Gilbert and right-handed pitchers Blade Tidwell and Jose Butto from the New York Mets on Wednesday in exchange for veteran right-handed reliever Tyler Rogers, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman. It was a pretty big overpay by the Mets, as both Tidwell and Gilbert were ranked in the team's top-15 prospect list, per MLB Pipeline. Gilbert, 24, was a first-round pick by the Houston Astros in 2022 out of Tennessee and was previously considered a top-100 prospect. However, he hasn't exactly lived up to expectations in the minors and was hitting .246/.349/.435 with 12 home runs in 81 games at Triple-A Syracuse. Injuries have definitely played a role in Gilbert's struggles on the farm, but the Giants are hoping they can turn him around and have him be a contributor at the big-league level next season.

Drew Gilbert Launches Two Long Balls

New York Mets outfield prospect Drew Gilbert went 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI during their contest against Triple-A Worcester on Thursday evening. This was Gilbert's second and third home runs over his last two games. Over his last nine, Gilbert has been one of the most productive hitters at Triple-A, boasting a .343/.395/.800 slash line with one double, five home runs. The former first-round pick made his Triple-A debut last season but struggled during his first look, posting a modest .215/.313/.393 line with just 10 long balls across 56 games with Syracuse. However, through 64 games this season, the No. 10-ranked prospect in the system has performed slightly better, holding a .232/.340/.405 line. If Gilbert can continue to find his swing at Syracuse, he could get the call to Queens in the second half.

Drew Gilbert Goes Deep on Wednesday

New York Mets outfield prospect Drew Gilbert went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Wednesday's 7-5 loss against Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Gilbert blasted his second home run in June, matching his total in all of May. The 24-year-old had been struggling a bit before tonight's performance, hitting .197/.312/.333 since the beginning of May. He has maintained a sound approach, however, with a 15.9 percent strikeout rate and 13.4 percent walk rate. Gilbert has primarily played in centerfield at Triple-A, and with a solid stretch of weeks, he could push for a promotion sometime this summer and share time with Tyrone Taylor. He would make for a decent add in deeper formats and NL-only leagues.

Drew Gilbert Returns To Triple-A

New York Mets outfield prospect Drew Gilbert (hamstring) returned to Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday. Gilbert was on the 7-day injured list due to a hamstring injury at the start of the campaign. He participated in a brief six-game rehab assignment with Low-A St. Lucie before returning to action. During his rehab assignment, Gilbert held a strong .374/.444/.708 slash line with two long balls. Fantasy managers should expect Gilbert to push for his MLB debut later this summer as he has already had a taste of Triple-A action. However, during his first look at Triple-A last season, Gilbert held a modest .215/.313/.393 line with just 10 home runs and three stolen bases across 56 games. If the former 28th overall pick can turn the corner, he could be in the mix to reach Queens during the first half of the season.

Drew Gilbert Hits 7-Day Injured List

New York Mets outfield prospect Drew Gilbert (hamstring) was placed on the 7-day injured list. Gilbert dealt with hamstring injuries last season and was unable to participate in the Grapefruit League. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status, but should expect the Mets to be cautious with Gilbert. Gilbert is considered one of the top hitting prospects in the system. Last season, the former 28th overall selection only appeared in 62 contests in the minor leagues. He spent most of his time with Triple-A, where he held a .215/.313/.393 slash line. However, during the 2023 campaign, Gilbert was very productive at the Double-A level, posting a strong .271/.372/.438 slash line with 12 long balls across 95 games. When he returns to action, he could push for an MLB debut in the second half of the campaign.

Drew Gilbert May Not Participate In Grapefruit League

New York Mets outfield prospect Drew Gilbert (hamstring) may not participate in any spring training contests. The team is opting to take Gilbert slow as he dealt with a hamstring injury during most of the 2024 campaign. However, the team is expecting Gilbert to be ready for Opening Day. Last season, the former 28th overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft spent most of his season at Triple-A. Across 56 contests, Gilbert held a .215/.313/.393 slash line with eight doubles and 10 home runs. He swiped three bags and held a 25:51 BB:K ratio. However, during the previous campaign, Gilbert posted a .271/.372/.438 slash line with 18 doubles and 12 long balls across 95 contests. When the Tennessee product is cleared for action, he will likely open the season at Triple-A. If he can find his footing at this level, he should contend for an early 2025 debut.

Drew Gilbert Showing Power In Arizona Fall League

New York Mets outfield prospect Drew Gilbert has been showcasing his power throughout the Arizona Fall League. Through 19 games, the No.3 ranked prospect in Queens has gone deep four times, which is tied for the second-most among outfielders. However, he has struggled to find consistency at the plate as he has posted an underwhelming .209/.361/.418 line but has shown a strong eye at the plate with a 13:12 BB:K ratio. Last summer, Gilbert battled injuries and was only able to appear in 56 games at the Triple-A level. Through this stint, the former first-round pick carried a .215/.313/.393 line with ten home runs and eight doubles. Given his struggles in Triple-A last summer, the Mets will likely opt to let him develop more at that level before promoting him to the majors.

Drew Gilbert Returns To Action On Rehab Assignment

New York Mets outfield prospect Drew Gilbert (hamstring) was 0-for-2 with a walk in a rehab appearance Thursday for the FCL Mets. The Mets' No. 3 prospect is working his way back from a right hamstring strain. The 23-year-old managed to play just seven games this season for Triple-A Syracuse. The former first-round pick of the Astros in 2022, Gilbert offers a nice blend of hitting and speed. Once he demonstrates full health and makes it back to Syracuse, Gilbert could push for a promotion to the big leagues before the season is over.
