Drew Gilbert Showing Power In Arizona Fall League

New York Mets outfield prospect Drew Gilbert has been showcasing his power throughout the Arizona Fall League. Through 19 games, the No.3 ranked prospect in Queens has gone deep four times, which is tied for the second-most among outfielders. However, he has struggled to find consistency at the plate as he has posted an underwhelming .209/.361/.418 line but has shown a strong eye at the plate with a 13:12 BB:K ratio. Last summer, Gilbert battled injuries and was only able to appear in 56 games at the Triple-A level. Through this stint, the former first-round pick carried a .215/.313/.393 line with ten home runs and eight doubles. Given his struggles in Triple-A last summer, the Mets will likely opt to let him develop more at that level before promoting him to the majors.

Drew Gilbert Returns To Action On Rehab Assignment

New York Mets outfield prospect Drew Gilbert (hamstring) was 0-for-2 with a walk in a rehab appearance Thursday for the FCL Mets. The Mets' No. 3 prospect is working his way back from a right hamstring strain. The 23-year-old managed to play just seven games this season for Triple-A Syracuse. The former first-round pick of the Astros in 2022, Gilbert offers a nice blend of hitting and speed. Once he demonstrates full health and makes it back to Syracuse, Gilbert could push for a promotion to the big leagues before the season is over.

Drew Gilbert Returns To Action Thursday

New York Mets outfield prospect Drew Gilbert (hamstring) made his first minor-league appearance on Thursday since straining his right hamstring back on April 6. Gilbert played five innings in center field for the Florida Complex League Mets, finishing 0-for-2 with a walk. The 23-year-old center fielder was the key piece to last year's Justin Verlander trade and is New York's No. 3 prospect for 2024, and he should have a decent chance of making his major-league debut when rosters expand in September if he can return to Triple-A Syracuse shortly after the upcoming All-Star break following his rehab assignment. Gilbert had been limited to seven games there this year, going 6-for-25 with a solo home run, but he could eventually become an option for the Mets if they don't opt to add an outfielder ahead of the trade deadline in late July.

Mets Hoping Drew Gilbert Can Return In Late May/Early June

New York Mets outfielder Drew Gilbert (hamstring), the top prospect the Mets acquired from the Houston Astros in the Justin Verlander trade last summer, hasn't played in the minors since straining his right hamstring in the second game of an April 6 doubleheader for Triple-A Syracuse. Gilbert is still in the "strengthening phase" of his recovery process. His timeline to return will depend in large part upon how well he responds to his running progression, but the Mets are hopeful he will be ready toward the end of May or beginning of June. The 23-year-old was hitting .240/.321/.360 in seven games with Syracuse before his injury. Gilbert, who was taken 28th overall by Houston in 2022 out of Tennessee, is ranked as the Mets' No. 2 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, so he deserves to be stashed in all dynasty/keeper leagues.

Drew Gilbert Excelling In Mets Organization

New York Mets outfield prospect Drew Gilbert is off to an incredible start with Double-A Binghamton since being acquired by the Mets in the Justin Verlander trade. He had his sixth multi-hit game since joining Binghamton, going 3-for-3 with four RBI and his 14th home run of the season in his latest start. The 22-year-old is slashing .367/.418/.571 with two home runs, eight runs, 11 RBI, and a stolen base through 13 games with the Mets organization, now sporting an .844 OPS on the season. Gilbert is not a focus in redraft leagues yet, but he remains a top outfield prospect in the dynasty format.

Drew Gilbert, Ryan Clifford Traded To Mets

The New York Mets have acquired top outfield prospects Drew Gilbert and Ryan Clifford from the Houston Astros in exchange for ace Justin Verlander, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN. This is quite the haul considering FanGraphs ranked Gilbert and Clifford as the Astros' No. 1 and No. 2 prospects, respectively. Gilbert, 22, has split this season between High-A and Double-A. The former first-round pick is slashing .274/.363/.458 with 12 homers, 10 stolen bases, 10.9 BB%, 18.7 K%, and 118 wRC+. Meanwhile, Clifford was an 11th-rounder last year who has burst onto the scene as a productive hitter. Through 83 games between Single-A and High-A this season, he is slashing .291/.399/.520 with 18 homers, 12.4 BB%, 24.0 K%, and 151 wRC+. Both players should be productive parts of the Mets' big-league lineup within a few seasons.

Drew Gilbert Promoted To Double-A

Houston Astros outfielder Drew Gilbert, the team's top prospect per MLB Pipeline, has been promoted to Double-A Corpus Christi, according to a source. Gilbert slashed an impressive .361/.421/.686 with eight doubles, a triple, six home runs, 18 RBI, four stolen bases and 21 runs scored in 21 games for High-A Asheville to early the promotion. The 22-year-old will now see how he fares against better pitching at the Double-A level. The left-handed hitter is extremely aggressive at the plate, but his elite hand-eye coordination allows him to make consistent hard contact. He also has solid speed on the basepaths and should develop into at least a 15-20-homer outfielder at the big-league level in a few years.
