Blake Wood Undergoes Successful Tommy John Surgery

Los Angeles Angels reliever Blake Wood (elbow) underwent successful surgery on his UCL on Wednesday. The typical recovery is 12 to 14 months, so Wood likely won't be back until midseason of 2019. Wood had thrown 11 2/3 innings on the year with a 2.31 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP. He can be dropped in all fantasy formats.

Blake Wood Has Damaged UCL

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Blake Wood (elbow) had an MRI done on Monday that showed damage to his UCL. He will seek an additional opinion. For now, he will remain on the disabled list. This is an incredibly discouraging update for the reliever, who was expected to rejoin the team last weekend. He's thrown 11 2/3 innings on the year with a 2.31 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP.

Blake Wood Set to Rehab Thursday

Los Angeles Angels reliever Blake Wood has a rehab appearance on Thursday. If all goes well, he could rejoin the team over the weekend or early next week. Wood does not figure to factor into the mix for saves in LA, even with Keynan Middleton out. He's worth a look in deep leagues that count holds, but that's about it.

Blake Wood Nearing Rehab Assignment

Los Angeles Angels reliever Blake Wood (elbow) threw off a mound for the first time on Wednesday and will repeat the workout again on Friday. If all goes well, he could begin a rehab assignment next week. The team won't provide an exact timetable, but Wood could be back with the team in a little over a week. The reliever has posted a 2.31 ERA in 11 2/3 innings on the year. He does not figure into the closing mix in LA at the moment, however, so he is best utilized in deep holds leagues when healthy.

Angels Place Blake Wood on the DL

Los Angeles Angels reliever Blake Wood (elbow) has been placed on the disabled list. His injury is labeled as a right elbow impingement. Right-hander Justin Anderson has been recalled to take his place on the roster. Wood has a 2.31 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP in 11 2/3 innings so far this season. He is not likely to see his name in the mix for saves anytime soon, so outside of deep holds leagues he should not be on the fantasy radar.

Angels Agree to Contract with Blake Wood

The Los Angeles Angels avoided arbitration with right-hander Blake Woodon Friday, agreeing to a one-year, $1.45 million contract with the reliever. Wood joined the Angels in August after coming over from the Reds. He threw 17 innings for the Angels with a 4.76 ERA. However, his 22:4strikeout-to-walk ratio was intriguing enough for the Angels to tender him a contract. He is unlikely to slide into the closer role next season with Jim Johnson, Blake Parker and Cam Bedrosian all competing for that spot. However, Wood could be an intriguing fantasy asset in holds leagues, especially if his ratios stay strong.
