Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Brock Stassi has signed a minor league deal with the organization. Stassi is expected to open the season with Triple-A Rochester but he should get a chance to play for the big league club at some point during the upcoming season.

After starting the last five consecutive games at first base for the Philadelphia Phillies, first baseman Tommy Joseph will be given a day off for today's series finale against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The 25-year-old has been on a tear this month, hitting .352 with five home runs and 12 RBI following a disappointing season start in April. Brock Stassi, meanwhile, has also seen improved numbers in May but is still hitting a poor .212 with two home runs and six RBI. Today, he'll start at first base and bat seventh as the Phillies seek the series win.
