Brock Stassi Signs Minor League Deal With Phillies
Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Brock Stassi has signed a minor league deal with the organization. He was originally drafted by the Phillies in 2011, but never did much during his time on the major league club. Stassi has bounced around to different organizations, but has never made a significant impact at the MLB level. He'll be nice depth for the Phillies, but won't be worth keeping an eye on in fantasy formats.
The Minnesota Twins expect to get second baseman Nick Gordon (wrist) and first baseman Brock Stassi (back) back in time to participate in Sunday's spring training game. Gordon has been sidelined since straining his wrist sliding into third base earlier in the week, while Stassi has been dealing with back spasms throughout the week. Gordon is regarded as one of Minnesota's better positional prospects, while Stassi is trying to earn a spot on the team's 25-man roster when camp breaks.
Minnesota Twins first baseman Brock Stassi was sidelined on Monday after he developed back spasms. The team is calling the 28-year-old day-to-day. Stassi made a name for himself with a hot camp during Spring Training in 2017, when he was with the Phillies. He appeared in 51 games with Philadelphia in 2017, batting .167 with two homers, six runs, and seven RBI. Stassi is expected to open the season with Triple-A Rochester but he should get a chance to play for the big league club at some point during the upcoming season.
Tommy Joseph Out, Brock Stassi In Today For Phillies
After starting the last five consecutive games at first base for the Philadelphia Phillies, first baseman Tommy Joseph will be given a day off for today's series finale against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The 25-year-old has been on a tear this month, hitting .352 with five home runs and 12 RBI following a disappointing season start in April. Brock Stassi, meanwhile, has also seen improved numbers in May but is still hitting a poor .212 with two home runs and six RBI. Today, he'll start at first base and bat seventh as the Phillies seek the series win.
