Colorado Rockies outfielder/designated hitter Charlie Blackmon is taking the day off for Wednesday's series finale at Coors Field against the visiting Boston Red Sox. Kris Bryant is serving as the DH and is hitting fifth, while Jake Cave is starting in right field and batting in the two-hole for the Rockies against Red Sox right-hander Nick Pivetta. It's odd to see Blackmon on the bench against a right-handed pitcher, but he'll get the day to rest in a day game following a night contest. The 38-year-old veteran left-handed-hitting outfielder is no longer in the prime of his career and only has seven home runs in 285 at-bats in 2024 while hitting .256 with 34 RBI, five steals and 42 runs scored. Blackmon has actually hit better against lefties this year with a .294 average (20-for-68) but with only one of his seven homers.
Colorado Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon went 2-for-6 with a walk and two-run home run in Monday's victory versus the Boston Red Sox. The veteran continues to be productive at the top of the Rockies order and is hitting .253 on the season to go along with seven homers, 34 RBI and five stolen bases in 281 at-bats. The 38-year-old isn't the All-Star that he once was, but could be a trade candidate for contending teams that looking for a left-handed bat. However, the Rockies have held onto such stars in the past and it remains to be seen if the lifelong Rockie would be willing to part ways, should an opportunity occur. Regardless, Blackmon makes for a good stream when at Coors Field, but can be left on the bench or waiver wire when on the road.
Colorado Rockies outfielder/designated hitter Charlie Blackmon (hamstring) has returned to the starting lineup for Friday's series opener versus the hosting New York Mets and left-hander Sean Manaea, serving as the DH and hitting leadoff. Blackmon tweaked his right hamstring while making a diving catch on Monday and missed the last three games as a result. But despite a left-hander being on the mound, the 38-year-old lefty hitter is back in action and hitting atop the lineup in the Big Apple. He could be a nice DFS sleeper on Friday, too, as he has a .357 career average and 1.114 OPS in 14 at-bats against Manaea. Blackmon, a four-time All-Star, is no longer a must-start fantasy outfielder these days and comes into Friday's contest hitting .256/.325/.402 with only four home runs, 29 RBI and five steals in 71 games this year.
Colorado Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon (hamstring) will miss his third straight game in Thursday's series finale against the hosting Cincinnati Reds, and now we know why. Manager Bud Black said Blackmon "tweaked" his right hamstring making an awkward sliding catch during the series opener on Monday. Black had planned a day off for Blackmon on Tuesday against a left-handed pitcher, but he wanted to start him in the final two games of the series. Blackmon checked out well while running on the field before Wednesday's game and was available for pinch-hitting duties, but he'll miss one more day as a precaution. With Blackmon out again on Thursday, Jake Cave is starting in right field and batting fifth, with Sam Hilliard, who hit two homers on Wednesday, playing left field and batting ninth. Nolan Jones will serve as the designated hitter and bat seventh against Reds right-hander Hunter Greene.
Colorado Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon remains out of the team's starting lineup on Wednesday against the Cincinnati Reds on the road, this time against a right-handed pitcher in Frankie Montas. Blackmon was out on Tuesday against left-hander Nick Lodolo and will miss his second straight game. There's been no word of an injury for the 38-year-old veteran, but we'll keep a close eye on the situation. Brenton Doyle, who had two homers in Tuesday night's loss, will serve as the designated hitter and bat fifth, while Sam Hilliard starts in center field and hits in the nine-hole for the Rockies. Perhaps the Rockies are just giving Blackmon a little more rest with the All-Star break looming next week. Since June 18, he's gone 6-for-32 (.188) with a homer, two doubles, three RBI and nine strikeouts in 10 games played.
Colorado Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon will retreat to the bench on Tuesday against the Cincinnati Reds on the road with a left-hander on the mound. Hunter Goodman is in right field and batting ninth for the Rockies, while catcher Elias Diaz will serve as the designated hitter and bat cleanup against Reds left-hander Nick Lodolo. Jacob Stallings is doing the catching and batting sixth. The 38-year-old veteran left-handed-hitting outfielder is actually batting .309 (17-for-55) against lefties in 2024, but none of his four home runs have come against them. Blackmon will get a breather after hitting just .188/.235/.344 with a homer, three RBI and nine strikeouts in nine games played over the last 14 days. Goodman and Diaz have never faced Lodolo in their careers, while Stallings has a hit in his only career at-bat versus Lodolo.
Charlie Blackmon Reinstated And Leading Off On Saturday
The Colorado Rockies announced on Saturday that they reinstated outfielder Charlie Blackmon (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list and optioned outfielder Sean Bouchard to Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move. Blackman is immediately being put back in the starting lineup on Saturday against the Chicago White Sox as well, serving as the designated hitter and batting leadoff against White Sox right-hander Jonathan Cannon. The 37-year-old veteran will return for the first time since straining his right hamstring on June 18 against the Los Angeles Dodgers following a minimal stay on the IL. Blackmon is no longer an All-Star caliber player and only has three home runs on the year, but he was heating up at the plate before his injury and is hoping to pick up where he left off atop Colorado's lineup on Saturday.
Colorado Rockies manager Bud Black said on Tuesday that outfielder Charlie Blackmon (hamstring) "is doing better" and "looks like he will be able to make it in the 10-day period." Blackmon stayed in Denver and is working out there rather than joining the team on their road trip to Houston, according to Black, adding that Blackmon will meet the team in Chicago and "more than likely be activated on the first day he is eligible." His IL placement was backdated to June 19, so he can return on Friday for the series opener against the White Sox. The four-time All-Star is no longer at his peak, especially in the power department, but he's still serviceable for outfield depth in deep-mixed fantasy leagues. Blackmon will return to a .266/.337/.410 triple-slash line with three homers, 26 RBI and five steals when the Rockies activate him this weekend.
Colorado Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon (hamstring) has been placed on the 10-day injured list on Friday. The veteran outfielder will miss some time after battling a lingering hamstring issue over the last week. This is bad timing with Blackmon hitting over .300 in the last two weeks. In a corresponding move, outfielder Sam Hilliard has been recalled from Triple-A. The Rockies will likely use a committee approach to fill the void. Sean Bouchard will cover right field and bat seventh on Friday.
Colorado Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon (hamstring) remains out of the starting lineup on Friday against the visiting Washington Nationals. Sean Bouchard will make another start in right field and will hit sixth against Nationals rookie left-hander DJ Herz. Blackmon will be out of the lineup for the third straight game due to right-hamstring tightness. If he is unable to make an appearance in the weekend series against the Nats, there's a good chance Blackmon will need to go on the injured list. The veteran outfielder has lost a lot of his power and only has three home runs on the year while batting .266 (59-for-222) with 26 RBI, five stolen bases and 34 runs scored. Bouchard will be a deep DFS sleeper at the bottom of the Rockies' lineup. In 81 at-bats, he has 16 hits for an average under the Mendoza Line with one dinger, seven RBI and four thefts.
