Jake Cave News
Minnesota Twins outfielder Jake Cave got the party started in Sunday's 14-2 blowout of the Chicago White Sox. Cave drilled a fastball over the opposite field wall for a first-inning grand slam. He did strike out twice but those are small potatoes compared to what the Twins are getting from their fourth outfielder. Cave has a home run and 6 RBI in two games so far and has made the absence of Byron Buxton (foot) less noticeable for Minnesota. It's unclear how much playing time Cave will get when Buxton returns, though he could be a nice option in deep leagues as another outfielder for the bench.
Minnesota Twins outfielder Jake Cave filled in admirably for Byron Buxton (foot). Cave came to the plate five times, notching a pair of singles, two RBI and striking out twice. The 27-year-old drove in two runs with a bases-loaded single in the first inning, giving Minnesota a 4-0 lead. Cave played well for the injured Buxton last year, posting an .805 OPS in 228 plate appearances. He had an excellent 52.3 % hard contact rate but that came with a 31.1% strikeout percentage. He'll have to display more patience at the plate while keeping his aggressive nature at the dish. At the very least, Cave could be a nice temporary replacement for Buxton in fantasy lineups if managers have nowhere else to turn.
Minnesota Twins outfielder Jake Cave recorded three hits in three at-bats of Thursday's tie with the Blue Jays. Cave doubled twice and homered to right field in the top half of the third inning. The 27-year-old is looking at the role of utility outfielder- though that could come with decent fantasy value- especially if starting center fielder Byron Buxton isn't fully recovered from shoulder surgery by Opening Day. In two big league seasons, Cave has compiled a 162-game average of 21 home runs, 27 doubles, and 70 RBI with a .262/.329/.466 slash line.
