Colson Montgomery Continues to Display Power, Homers Twice on Wednesday

Chicago White Sox infielder Colson Montgomery came into Wednesday's game against the New York Yankees in the Bronx hitting just .221 (55-for-249) through his first 68 games of his first full year in the big leagues. Montgomery also entered the day with 17 home runs after hitting 21 in 71 games as a rookie in 2025, and he continued to flex his muscles at the plate by going 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI in the 10-5 loss on the road. Both of his round-trippers were of the solo variety for his first career multi-home run game. Montgomery is now hitting .225/.319/.502 with 19 home runs, 13 doubles, 44 RBI, and 35 runs scored in 288 plate appearances. Of his seven hits so far in June, six of them have gone for extra bases. The 24-year-old former 22nd overall pick in 2021 doesn't make all that much contact and hasn't been an asset for his on-base percentage, but he has plenty of power to spare and now ranks ninth in baseball with his 19 home runs.

Colson Montgomery Dealing With Back Tightness

Chicago White Sox general manager Chris Getz said that infielder Colson Montgomery (back) is getting an extra day off on Tuesday against the Atlanta Braves to recover from some back tightness that he's been dealing with, according to James Fegan of Sox Machine. Luisangel Acuna made the start at the 6 for the Pale Hose on Tuesday and was hitting in the eight-hole against Braves right-hander Grant Holmes. Fantasy managers should consider Montgomery to be day-to-day for now and check back on Wednesday to see if he's feeling good enough to return to action. The 24-year-old former 22nd overall pick in 2021 out of a high school in Indiana is hitting just .225 (53-for-236) in his first full season in the majors, but he has provided fantasy managers with plenty of power with 16 home runs, 12 doubles, 38 RBI, and 31 runs scored across his first 64 games and 270 plate appearances in 2026. He's rostered in 90% of Yahoo leagues.

Colson Montgomery Flashing Power Potential

Chicago White Sox shortstop Colson Montgomery is 15-for-47 (.319) over his last 12 games and has smashed five homers with 12 RBI and a .463 wOBA. The lefty has a 54.5% hard-hit rate over that span and a 41.4% hard-hit rate on the season. His recent success has been a little overshadowed by the hype around Munetaka Murakami, but Montgomery is also starting to heat up in the middle of the White Sox lineup, which is full of exciting young hitters to add to your lineup headed into the summer with warmer weather in Chicago. Montgomery and the White Sox are in San Diego for their weekend series, which gets underway on Friday night with a favorable matchup against German Marquez.

Colson Montgomery Shows That His Power is Here to Stay

Chicago White Sox shortstop Colson Montgomery made his MLB debut last season. While he logged a modest 71 appearances before the year came to an end, he wasted no time showing the world just how much power he possesses in his swing. Montgomery launched 21 homers across 71 MLB games -- more home runs than he had ever hit in a full minor league season. The thump was legitimate, but concerns persisted about his strikeouts; he posted a 29.2% strikeout rate and 8.8% walk rate down the stretch. Still, he finished the year with 129 wRC+ and 9.3 fWAR at the plate, as well as 7.0 fWAR in the field. Most of his defensive reps came at shortstop (6 OAA and 6 FRV), although he did log a dozen appearances at the hot corner. Montgomery could legitimately slug 40-plus home runs this year, so while it remains to be seen whether he can cut down on strikeouts, he offers intriguing fantasy upside nonetheless. As it stands, he ranks as the #21 shortstop and #116 hitter in RotoBaller's latest fantasy baseball draft rankings for 2026.

Colson Montgomery Returns Against Yankees

Chicago White Sox rookie shortstop Colson Montgomery (side) is back at shortstop and is hitting cleanup for Game 2 of the series against the visiting New York Yankees and left-hander Carlos Rodon on Friday. A left-side injury kept Montgomery out of action for the last two games, but he'll return for the start of the weekend after also dealing with a similar issue last week. The 23-year-old former 22nd overall pick in 2021 has gone just 35-for-152 (.230) in his first 43 big-league games this year, but he's also produced 14 home runs and 37 RBI in 165 plate appearances as the team's shortstop of the future. Montgomery has homered in each of his last four games, but it will be tough to keep that impressive streak alive on Friday in a tough lefty-lefty matchup. In 44 trips to the plate against southpaws, Montgomery has hit .167 (7-for-42) with three homers and nine strikeouts.

Colson Montgomery Missing Another Game

Chicago White Sox shortstop prospect Colson Montgomery (side) is missing another game on Thursday against the visiting New York Yankees at Rate Field. Chase Meidroth is starting at shortstop for the Pale Hose and will hit ninth against Yankees right-hander Will Warren. Montgomery initially dealt with a left-side issue last week but had returned before developing more soreness and being held out of Wednesday's game. It sounds like a day-to-day situation for the 23-year-old, but fantasy managers shouldn't rule out a trip to the injured list if he's unable to return before the end of the weekend. With Meidroth at short, Lenyn Sosa draws into the lineup at second base. Montgomery will operate as Chicago's starting shortstop the rest of the way if he's healthy, and although he's hit just .230 in his first 152 big-league at-bats, the power is real (14 homers).

Colson Montgomery Sitting Out on Wednesday

Chicago White Sox shortstop Colson Montgomery (side) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the Kansas City Royals. Montgomery has been playing through some left side discomfort, so he'll get the day off here. He underwent imaging, but it didn't reveal anything significant. That being said, fantasy managers should consider Montgomery as day-to-day. Montgomery has been on a nice power streak with four home runs in his last four games. The rookie infielder has 14 homers through 43 games with the White Sox this season. He's not offering a ton of value outside of that, but is still worth rostering in deep leagues. Chase Meidroth will take over shortstop while Lenyn Sosa plays second base against right-hander Ryan Bergert on Wednesday.

Colson Montgomery Returning to White Sox's Lineup

Chicago White Sox rookie shortstop Colson Montgomery (side) is back at shortstop and will hit fifth on Wednesday against the hosting Atlanta Braves and rookie right-hander Hurston Waldrep. Montgomery was pulled from Monday's series opener at Truist Park early with left-side soreness, and he was held out of Tuesday's game as a result. The 23-year-old is back on Wednesday, though, and the White Sox will give fellow middle infielder Chase Meidroth the day off. Lenyn Sosa is starting at the keystone and is in the cleanup spot for Chicago. The former first-rounder isn't hitting for average (29-for-132) in his first 38 big-league games, but he's showed off his power stroke with 10 home runs, four doubles, a triple and 28 RBI in 145 plate appearances. Montgomery has fanned 42 times and walked only 11 times.

Colson Montgomery Held Out With Side Injury

Chicago White Sox rookie shortstop Colson Montgomery (side) will take a seat for Tuesday's affair in Atlanta against the hosting Braves at Truist Park. Fellow rookie Chase Meidroth will get the nod at the 6 and will hit ninth against Braves right-hander Bryce Elder. Montgomery will take the day off after he was taken out of Monday's series opener early with left-side soreness. The 23-year-old is day-to-day for now, but this could easily turn into an injured list situation if it turns out to be an oblique pull. Check back on Wednesday to see if he's feeling good enough to play in the series finale in Atlanta. The former first-rounder in 2021 has gone only 29-for-132 (.220) in his first 38 big-league games this year, but Montgomery is showing plenty of power with 10 homers, four doubles, a triple and 28 RBI in his 145 plate appearances.

Colson Montgomery Exits Early Monday With Left-Side Soreness

Chicago White Sox third baseman/shortstop Colson Montgomery (side) exited Monday's 13-9 win over the Braves early due to left side soreness, per the team's official X account. Montgomery went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout before being replaced defensively in the sixth inning. Fantasy managers should keep an eye out for further details and should pay attention to Tuesday's lineup. The 23-year-old, who was a former fantasy prospect, has shown plenty of power upside but also high strikeout liability since getting called up at the beginning of July, slashing .220/.285/.492 with 10 home runs, 28 RBI, and a 29.0% strikeout rate in 145 plate appearances.
