Is Grant Taylor Destined to Take Over the Closer Role in Chicago?

Chicago White Sox right-hander Grant Taylor has been one of his team's best pitchers in 2026, recording a 2-0 record with a 2.21 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 52 strikeouts, and two saves across 36 2/3 innings (27 games). The 24-year-old is averaging 98.4 miles per hour on his fastball and owns an elite 29.1% K-BB rate. So far this season, Chicago has deployed Taylor as both an opener and in a fireman role out of the bullpen rather than in the ninth inning. Veteran reliever Seranthony Dominguez currently leads the team with 12 saves, but he's also logged a 13.5% walk rate and a 3.81 ERA. The White Sox have shown a willingness to give save opportunities to both Taylor and left-hander Bryan Hudson. If Chicago eventually pulls the plug on Dominguez, Taylor profiles as the obvious replacement option. Even if Taylor only gets the occasional save the rest of the way, he's pitched well enough that he can still be a valuable waiver wire addition for fantasy managers.

Grant Taylor Tallies Second Save, Seeing Closer Value Continue to Increase

Chicago White Sox reliever Grant Taylor struck out the side in a perfect ninth inning Saturday to finish off a 6-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. The 24-year-old needed just 14 pitches to earn his second save of the season. Taylor now owns a 1.93 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 50 strikeouts, nine walks, two saves, and four holds across 32 2/3 innings and 25 appearances. Taylor's waiver wire value is climbing because Chicago trusted him with the ninth inning after Seranthony Dominguez handled the eighth. That usage matters for fantasy managers chasing saves, especially with Taylor backing it up with a 50:9 K:BB and strong ratios. Rostered in only 14% of Yahoo leagues, Taylor should be treated as a priority pickup while his late-inning role continues to grow.

Grant Taylor Worth Targeting on the Waiver Wire Ahead of Potential Ninth-Inning Takeover in Chicago?

Chicago White Sox right-hander Grant Taylor has arguably been his team's top relief option so far in 2026, recording a 2.12 ERA and 1.11 WHIP with 44 strikeouts across 29 2/3 innings (23 games). The 24-year-old has recorded just one save on the year, as the White Sox have primarily utilized veteran reliever Seranthony Dominguez in the ninth inning. However, Dominguez owns an 11.3% walk rate and a 1.99 HR/9 on the season, a combination that makes him prone to blow-up innings. With an average fastball velocity of 98.5 miles per hour and a 28.7% K-BB rate, Taylor profiles as the closer of the future in Chicago. If the White Sox continue to hang around the playoff picture in the American League, the team could make the switch to Taylor sooner rather than later. For deeper-league managers in need of saves, Taylor could be worth stashing off the waiver wire ahead of his possible emergence as the preferred ninth-inning option in Chicago.

Grant Taylor Earns Save, New Closer on the South Side?

Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Grant Taylor was tasked with pitching the final frame of Tuesday's game against the Seattle Mariners. Taylor didn't have any issues as he struck out the side to earn his first save of the season. After that outing, Taylor holds a 1.78 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and a 15:4 K:BB ratio across 19 appearances this season. The White Sox haven't won any games since then, so it's unclear if this was a one-time thing or if Taylor is going to be the closer moving forward. Seranthony Dominguez has blown three saves and holds a 4.82 ERA across 18.2 innings this season. It wouldn't be shocking to see the White Sox give Taylor a chance at the closer role moving forward.

Grant Taylor Earns Save in Dominant Fashion, Emerging as a Potential Closer Option?

Chicago White Sox right-hander Grant Taylor earned his first save of the season on Tuesday, striking out the side in a scoreless ninth inning during his team's 2-1 win over the Seattle Mariners. The 24-year-old is off to an excellent start in 2026, as he's recorded a 1.78 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with 38 strikeouts across 25 1/3 innings (19 games). Veteran righty Seranthony Dominguez has been the primary closer so far in 2026 for Chicago. However, Dominguez currently owns a 4.82 ERA and has given up five home runs across 18 2/3 innings pitched. Taylor has been the more dominant of the two relievers by far, as he's averaging 98.6 miles per hour on his fastball and has struck out 36.2% of the batters he's faced so far this year. Fantasy managers in need of saves may want to consider targeting Taylor on the waiver wire ahead of his potential promotion to the ninth-inning role for the White Sox.

Grant Taylor Not Expected to Make Anymore Traditional Starts

Chicago White Sox general manager Chris Getz said that he doesn't envision more traditional starts for right-hander Grant Taylor this year, according to Josh Frydman of WGN News. At best, Taylor might work up to three innings in the future as an opener. The 23-year-old is sort of in a transition phase in 2026 as the White Sox slowly work to ramp him back up as a full-time starting pitcher for next year. Taylor has made seven appearances this year (four starts) and has allowed just one earned run on six hits while walking two and striking out 10 in 8 1/3 innings pitched. He had a 4.91 ERA and 1.42 WHIP with 54 strikeouts, 15 walks, and his first six career saves in 36 appearances (two starts) over 36 2/3 innings last year in his first year in the majors. Taylor has looked pretty solid so far in 2026, but his fantasy upside will be capped with an innings limit of around 100 planned for this year. Durability issues and workload concerns make him a shaky saves option for fantasy managers in deeper leagues.

Grant Taylor to Serve as Opener on Saturday

Chicago White Sox right-hander Grant Taylor will serve as the team's opener on Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays, according to MLB.com's Scott Merkin. Anthony Kay will pitch the bulk of the innings for the Pale Hose on Saturday against Toronto. The 23-year-old Taylor also served as Chicago's opener last Friday, and he's allowed one earned run with two walks and four strikeouts in his two innings of work in relief so far this year in his second big-league season. Taylor went 2-4 last year with a 4.91 ERA (1.42 FIP), 1.42 WHIP, six saves, 54 strikeouts, and 15 walks in 36 2/3 innings over 36 appearances (two starts). This will be Taylor's first "start" of 2026, but he won't be useful in DFS because he's likely to only pitch an inning against Toronto.

Grant Taylor to Start Home Opener on Friday

Chicago White Sox right-handed pitcher Grant Taylor will start Friday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays as an opener, according to James Fegan of SoxMachine.com. Taylor developed in the minors as a starter, but the White Sox have been using him solely as a reliever in the majors, so he'll presumably only pitch the first inning on Friday. He posted a 1.42 FIP with 13.25 K/9 in the majors last year, and he hasn't surrendered a home run since 2024 at Single-A. Through two innings of relief work this season, he has allowed one earned run and two walks while striking out four batters. As long as the White Sox keep Taylor in a short-innings role, he's not a very flashy pitching option in fantasy baseball.

Is Grant Taylor Emerging As a High-End Option in Chicago?

Chicago White Sox pitcher Grant Taylor has looked excellent this spring and is a breakout candidate to watch. The 23-year-old has outstanding stuff and can dominate when at his best, but his role is still a little undefined. Last year, he worked 36 2/3 innings in the majors in 36 games, including two starts. He picked up six saves and 54 strikeouts while throwing 37 pitches at 100 mph or faster, including a blistering 102.2 mph on June 22. He posted a 4.91 ERA but a more impressive 1.42 FIP. He is expected to work out of the bullpen, possibly for multiple innings, and has stated his goal is to throw 100 innings this year. He logged a career-high 63 1/3 innings last year in the minors and majors combined. He is shaping up to be an elite relief arm with a very high strikeout ceiling, although his durability and uncertain role make him a little tricky to lock into a spot, since his value depends on how your league treats relief arms. His strikeout potential definitely makes him a great option to watch for dynasty leagues, since the goal is to move him back to the rotation later in his career.

Grant Taylor to Transition Back to Starting Role in 2027?

Chicago White Sox right-hander Grant Taylor has a goal of reaching 100 innings pitched in 2026 in his second big-league season, and MLB.com's Scott Merkin suggests that the 23-year-old could be an option to start again in 2027. "Having got through last year, adding [Seranthony] Dom nguez, being able to slot guys in different areas, we are going to have more freedom to use Grant to win games, as opposed to fulfill some innings limit," manager Will Venable said. The addition of Seranthony Dominguez to the bullpen should free Taylor up to work multiple innings more out of the bullpen this year after he threw 36 2/3 frames in his first taste of MLB in 2025. Taylor had 37 pitches at 100 mph or faster, and he topped out at 102.2 mph on June 22. He had 54 strikeouts but an ERA of 4.91. The 23-year-old threw a career-high 63 1/3 innings last year between the minors and majors. Although high-leverage opportunities could come, most of Taylor's work this year is expected to come in long relief. Taylor's strikeout upside is obvious, but durability is a concern.
