Edgar Quero News
Chicago White Sox catching prospect Edgar Quero has been off to a great start at Double-A this season, posting a .286/.373/.589 line with five long balls and 21 RBI across 17 games. Quero, the ninth overall catching prospect and fifth overall prospect in the White Sox system on MLB Pipeline is showing some untapped power potential that he has yet to show in the minor leagues. Last season in Double-A, he only hit six home runs with a .351 SLG. If Quero continues this trajectory, he could be promoted to Triple-A reasonably quickly and push for a promotion later in the summer. For now, Quero remains a target in dynasty leagues as he is viewed as the backstop of the future on the Southside.
Chicago White Sox catching prospect Edgar Quero hit two home runs -- including a walk-off -- in a game for Double-A Birmingham. He has impressed since arriving at the trade deadline, slashing .340/.379/.500 with two home runs, five runs, and 16 RBI in 13 games. This success with Birmingham follows a terrible stretch of hitting in the Angels organization, as Quero slashed .221/.355/.289 in his last 40 games with Double-A Rocket City. The switch-hitting backstop's elite plate discipline and solid raw power make him one of the best catching prospects in dynasty leagues, but he's still not close to being a focus in other formats.
The Chicago White Sox got a solid prospect haul when they traded right-handers Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez to the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday night. The Angels sent two of their top-five prospects, per MLB Pipeline, to the White Sox in catcher Edgar Quero (No. 2) and left-hander Ky Bush (No. 3), according to sources. Quero is a 20-year-old switch-hitting backstop who was batting .245 (62-for-253) with three homers, 13 doubles, 35 RBI and 39 runs in 69 games for Double-A Rocket City before the trade. He could be an option for Chicago in the big leagues in a few seasons. Bush, 23, made just six starts at Rocket City and had a 5.88 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 33 K's in 26 innings after missing time with an oblique injury. Because of his strikeout upside, Bush could have the opportunity to make his MLB debut as soon as 2023 in Chicago.
