Edgar Quero Showing Improvement This Spring

Chicago White Sox catcher Edgar Quero has looked impressive on both sides of the ball so far this spring, and the switch-hitter is tied for the Cactus League lead with nine RBI and nine hits after going deep against Chicago Cubs lefty Shota Imanaga on Sunday. MLB.com's Scott Merkin writes that Quero's "diligent offseason work focused on strengthening all areas of his game," but change with his swing "came especially within his hips." "Try to rotate a little better with my load, in my back hips, and it's working right now. Both sides, same thing. I figured it out in the offseason, and now it's working," Quero said. The 22-year-old Cuban backstop hit .268/.333/.356 with five homers, 17 doubles, and 36 RBI, but he hit .357 with an .851 OPS in 137 plate appearances versus lefties. The White Sox don't have a set DH, so both Quero and Kyle Teel could rotate time at DH if the Sox want to keep their bats in the lineup.

Edgar Quero Working on Swing at Driveline

Chicago White Sox catcher Edgar Quero was working at Driveline in the offseason to improve his swing. Quero has been looking to increase his bat speed and quality of contact for the upcoming campaign. The young backstop made his MLB debut last summer and posted a .268/.333/.356 line with 17 doubles and five home runs. While he showed a strong eye at the plate with a 17.6% K%, he struggled to generate hard contact, posting a low .290 xwOBA and 67.5 mph bat speed, which placed him in the fourth percentile. Coming up in the minor leagues, Quero posted an .829 OPS across 98 games at the upper levels during the 2024 season. This season, Quero is slated to share catching duties with Kyle Teel, but he could carve out a role as a primary DH if he were to increase his power upside. For now, he is a name to monitor in deeper two-catcher formats.

Edgar Quero Launches First MLB Home Run

Chicago White Sox catching prospect Edgar Quero went 1-for-4 with a long ball during their victory over the Colorado Rockies on Friday evening. Quero hit a solo shot in the sixth inning off Colorado starting pitcher Antonio Senzatela. Quero has begun to take the back seat to fellow catching prospect Kyle Teel behind the dish. Over his last 11 games, Quero has posted a modest .219/.306/.344 slash line with one double and a home run. During that stretch, Quero has posted a 25.0% K rate but drawn walks at a strong 11.0% rate. Through 56 total games in the majors, the 22-year-old has held a .273/.347/.331 slash line. Fantasy managers should continue to expect Teel and Quero to split time behind the dish and occasionally see time as the designated hitter. As a result, Quero is only worth targeting in deeper two-catcher leagues and AL-only formats.

Edgar Quero, Lenyn Sosa Sitting for First Game of Doubleheader

Chicago White Sox rookie catcher Edgar Quero and infielder Lenyn Sosa are out of the starting lineup for Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals. Fellow rookie Kyle Teel will be behind the plate and will hit fifth, while Josh Rojas is starting at second base and batting eighth against Cardinals right-hander Erick Fedde. Quero has been splitting playing time behind the plate since the White Sox called up Teel, but he's been playing regularly while also seeing action as the designated hitter. The 22-year-old Cuban backstop has handled himself well with a .284 average (42-for-148) but is still looking for his first big-league homer and has driven in only 17 runs. After returning from a recent stint on the injured list, Sosa has been more of a part-time player in Chicago. Rojas has hit .250 with an RBI in 12 career at-bats against Fedde.

Edgar Quero, Chase Meidroth Sitting on Saturday

Chicago White Sox catcher Edgar Quero and infielder Chase Meidroth are not in Saturday's lineup when they continue a series against the Baltimore Orioles. Quero has started each of the past five contests and posted a .278/.350/.444 line over this stretch. Meidroth has been a staple of the White Sox starting nine over the past two weeks. Meidroth has started each of the past 13 contests and held a stellar .315/.373/.403 line with two doubles, one home run, and five stolen bases. Fantasy managers should expect both Quero and Meidroth to return to the starting lineup on Sunday. This afternoon, Korey Lee will be behind the dish, and Vinny Capra will cover shortstop. The Chicago White Sox are worth a look in DFS this afternoon as they will face Baltimore right-hander Dean Kremer, who enters this game holding a 5.02 ERA.

Edgar Quero Not in Saturday's Lineup

Chicago White Sox catcher Edgar Quero is not in Saturday's lineup when they continue a series against the Texas Rangers. Quero got the starting nod in the series opener on Friday evening and went 0-for-4 at the dish. As a result, Matt Thaiss will enter the starting lineup and bat in the seven-hole. Quero has been in a bit of a slump at the plate, as he has gone just 7-for-44 over his last 13 contests. During this stretch, the No. 58-ranked prospect in the sport did not tally an extra-base hit. However, over his first 16 games in the majors, Quero enjoyed a hot start, holding a .340/.446/.404 line with three doubles. Fantasy managers should expect Quero to return to the starting nine on Sunday. This afternoon, Thaiss is best to fade in DFS facing Jack Leiter.

Edgar Quero Sitting On Sunday

Chicago White Sox catching prospect Edgar Quero is not in Sunday's lineup when they conclude a series against the Miami Marlins. Quero was in the starting nine on Saturday afternoon and went 0-for-4 at the plate. Fantasy managers should expect the young backstop to return to the starting nine on Tuesday when they begin a series against the Reds. The 22-year-old made his MLB debut earlier this summer and has held his own through his first taste. Across 20 games, the 22-year-old has posted a strong .274/.375/.323 slash line with three doubles and an 11:8 K:BB. Matt Thaiss will be behind the dish and bat this afternoon in the cleanup spot. He is worth a look in DFS facing Miami Marlins right-hander Sandy Alcantara, who enters this game with a high 8.42 ERA.

Edgar Quero Getting A Breather Against Astros

Chicago White Sox catching prospect Edgar Quero is not in the team's starting lineup on Saturday against the visiting Houston Astros. Matt Thaiss will do the catching for right-hander Davis Martin and will bat seventh against Astros right-hander Hunter Brown. Since being recalled from the minors early this season, Quero has held his own at the plate, going 12-for-40 (.300) with two doubles, five RBI, four runs scored, six walks and five strikeouts in his first 14 MLB games. The team's No. 6 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, will continue to see most of the starts behind the dish for the Pale Hose moving forward. The 22-year-old is coming off a 2-for-3 performance on Friday night with two RBI against the Astros. Thaiss will be a low-upside DFS play at catcher on Saturday. He's hitting .208 (10-for-48) with a homer and seven RBI and is also batting .200 in five career at-bats against Brown.

Edgar Quero Hitless In MLB Debut

Chicago White Sox catcher Edgar Quero made his MLB debut against the Athletics on Thursday. The 22-year-old earned himself a promotion after going 17-for-51 across 15 games in Triple-A this season. He had an underwhelming debut as he went 0-for-3 with a strikeout in the loss to the A's. It was a tough day for the White Sox as a whole considering they only got four hits and were shutout on Thursday. The assumption is that Quero is going to be the everyday catcher now that he got called up. Right now, Quero is probably only worth a look in deep leagues or AL-only formats.

Edgar Quero Set To Make MLB Debut

Chicago White Sox catching prospect Edgar Quero is set to join the MLB roster prior to Thursday's contest against the Athletics and make his MLB debut. Quero is considered the No. 63 prospect in the sport and the No. 6 prospect in the system on MLB.com. The 22-year-old is also viewed as one of the top catching prospects in the sport. Earlier this season, Quero posted a strong .333/.44/.412 slash line with one double and one round-tripper across 15 games with Triple-A Charlotte. Last summer, Quero spent time with Double-A and Triple-A and held a cumulative .280/.366/.463 slash line with 16 doubles and 16 long balls across 98 games. Fantasy managers should expect the young backstop to likely operate as the top catcher on the Southside. He should be added in all two-catcher formats and is worth targeting in deeper one-catcher leagues.
