Lenyn Sosa Back at Second Base on Thursday for Toronto

Toronto Blue Jays infielder Lenyn Sosa will make the start at second base again on Thursday for the second straight day in the series finale against the Milwaukee Brewers and right-hander Brandon Sproat at American Family Field, according to MLB.com. Sosa, who was recently acquired in a trade from the Chicago White Sox, made his first start with the team on Wednesday and went 1-for-3 at the plate in the team's 2-1 loss to the Brew Crew. He will hit fifth in the batting order on Thursday. Sosa will get a shot to be the team's primary second baseman against right-handed pitchers. So far in 14 games in 2026, he has gone 9-for-37 (.243) at the plate with no homers, three RBI, and three runs scored in 37 plate appearances. Sosa is a career .246/.273/.387 hitter with a .661 OPS, 37 home runs, 128 RBI, and five stolen bases in 317 games played.

Blue Jays Acquire Lenyn Sosa From White Sox

The Toronto Blue Jays announced on Monday that they have acquired infielder Lenyn Sosa from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for outfielder Jordan Rich and a player to be named later or cash considerations, according to Keegan Matheson of MLB.com. In a corresponding move, the Blue Jays moved right-hander Shane Bieber (elbow) to the 60-day injured list. Sosa, 26, got off to a rough start to the 2026 campaign in Chicago with a .212 batting average (7-for-33) with no homers, three RBI, two runs scored, no walks, and seven strikeouts in 12 games played. However, he led the White Sox with a career-high 22 home runs in 544 plate appearances and 140 games played in 2025 in his fourth year in the big leagues. It's unclear exactly what Sosa's role will be in Toronto long-term, but at least initially, he could play regularly for the Blue Jays while designated hitter George Springer (toe) is on the 10-day injured list with a fractured toe. Sosa's power upside at the second position makes him interesting in a hitter-friendly home park, at least for the short term in his new digs.

Lenyn Sosa is Heading to the Bench Again

Chicago White Sox infielder Lenyn Sosa is out of the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. This marks the second time in the first three games that Sosa has been held out of the starting lineup. The expectation was that Sosa would have a bigger role after smacking a career-high 22 home runs in 2025. Instead, Sosa appears to be stuck in a part-time role on the South Side of Chicago. So far this season, Sosa is 0-for-6 and might end up only playing against left-handed pitching. Andrew Benintendi will serve as the designated hitter while Everson Pereira starts in right field versus right-hander Brandon Sproat on Sunday.

Lenyn Sosa Likely Headed Towards Bench Role

Chicago White Sox infielder Lenyn Sosa is unlikely to have a defensive home to begin the 2026 season. According to Mark Gonzales, Sosa could be on the roster bubble due to the fact that he doesn't have a starting spot on the roster. Last season, Sosa played 99 games at second base, while playing 42 contests at first base. He also saw a few games at third base, but is mostly being used at two positions. Chase Meidroth should have second base locked down, and Murataka Murakami figures to push Sosa out of a role at first base. The White Sox could use Sosa at third base, but they seem committed to playing Miguel Vargas there full-time. Sosa isn't exactly a reliable defender, so his bat will likely need to carry him to a roster spot. Last season, Sosa slashed .264/.293/.434 with a career-high 22 home runs and 75 RBI in 140 games. The 26-year-old is unlikely to have consistent fantasy value if he does end up in a bench role in 2026.

Lenyn Sosa Powers White Sox win at Coors Field

Chicago White Sox second baseman Lenyn Sosa had three hits, a home run, and four RBI in his team's 10-4 victory over the Rockies in Denver. Sosa's two-run homer in the second inning extended the lead to 5-2 after he doubled and scored in the first inning. He added a two-run single in the eighth inning to add some insurance runs as well. Sosa moved up to second in the order and could have fantasy value in AL-only or deep leagues if he stays in that premium lineup spot. He's hitting a solid .275 on the season with seven homers and a .309 wOBA. Sosa and the Sox get the rare chance to close out a road sweep when they face the Rockies on Sunday at Coors.

Lenyn Sosa Goes Yard Twice in Victory

Chicago White Sox second baseman Lenyn Sosa went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI in Wednesday's 7-3 win against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He also singled, struck out, and was caught stealing. The Venezuelan native's first homer of the day was a two-run shot off D-Backs starter Zac Gallen that put his team up 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth frame. Two innings later, Sosa knocked in another run with an RBI-single, and finished the monster performance with a solo bash in the eighth to make it 7-3. He's slashing a solid .277/.298/.416 with six long balls, 12 doubles, 22 runs scored, and 22 RBI through 66 appearances.

Edgar Quero, Lenyn Sosa Sitting for First Game of Doubleheader

Chicago White Sox rookie catcher Edgar Quero and infielder Lenyn Sosa are out of the starting lineup for Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals. Fellow rookie Kyle Teel will be behind the plate and will hit fifth, while Josh Rojas is starting at second base and batting eighth against Cardinals right-hander Erick Fedde. Quero has been splitting playing time behind the plate since the White Sox called up Teel, but he's been playing regularly while also seeing action as the designated hitter. The 22-year-old Cuban backstop has handled himself well with a .284 average (42-for-148) but is still looking for his first big-league homer and has driven in only 17 runs. After returning from a recent stint on the injured list, Sosa has been more of a part-time player in Chicago. Rojas has hit .250 with an RBI in 12 career at-bats against Fedde.

Lenyn Sosa Activated and Starting on Tuesday

The Chicago White Sox announced on Tuesday that they reinstated infielder Lenyn Sosa (hip) from the 10-day injured list and optioned infielder/outfielder Brooks Baldwin to Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move. Sosa is in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals, playing first base and batting seventh against Cardinals left-hander Matthew Liberatore. The 25-year-old had been serving as the team's starting second baseman before suffering a right hip-flexor strain, but he'll return to the cold corner with Chase Meidroth playing second on Tuesday. The Venezuelan infielder will be a middle-infield option in AL-only leagues for one of the worst teams in baseball, but he also carries third base eligibility in some formats. He'll return to a .274/.291/.383 slash line in 201 at-bats with four homers, 17 RBI and 15 runs scored.

Lenyn Sosa to Start Rehab Assignment on Friday

Chicago White Sox infielder Lenyn Sosa (hip) will start a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte on Friday, according to MLB.com's Scott Merkin. While Sosa won't come off the 10-day injured list when he's eligible on Friday, he should be back with the White Sox next week, barring a setback in the minors this weekend. The 25-year-old has been out since earlier this month with a right-hip flexor strain. Before his injury, Sosa was slashing .274/.291/.383 with a below-average .674 OPS, four home runs, 10 doubles, 17 RBI, 15 runs scored and a stolen base in 57 games played. When he returns, the Venezuelan infielder should see regular playing time at the keystone in the Windy City. Sosa showed improvement with his contact skills last year and has dual eligibility in most fantasy leagues, making him attractive infield depth in AL-only leagues despite playing on a bad team.

White Sox Place Lenyn Sosa on 10-Day Injured List With Hip Strain

The Chicago White Sox announced on Wednesday that they placed infielder Lenyn Sosa (hip) on the 10-day injured list with a right hip-flexor strain and recalled infielder Tim Elko from Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move. Sosa went 0-for-4 in Monday's loss to the Detroit Tigers and didn't play on Tuesday. The 25-year-old has hit .274 on the season but with just four home runs and 17 RBI for the last-place team. In his three-plus MLB seasons with the White Sox, Sosa has hit .241 as a part-time player. With Sosa now on the shelf for at least 10 days, expect Josh Rojas to see most of the playing time at the keystone in the Windy City. Given the nature of Sosa's injury, there's no guarantee he'll be ready to come off the IL when he's eligible on June 13.
