Grant Taylor Not Expected to Make Anymore Traditional Starts

Chicago White Sox general manager Chris Getz said that he doesn't envision more traditional starts for right-hander Grant Taylor this year, according to Josh Frydman of WGN News. At best, Taylor might work up to three innings in the future as an opener. The 23-year-old is sort of in a transition phase in 2026 as the White Sox slowly work to ramp him back up as a full-time starting pitcher for next year. Taylor has made seven appearances this year (four starts) and has allowed just one earned run on six hits while walking two and striking out 10 in 8 1/3 innings pitched. He had a 4.91 ERA and 1.42 WHIP with 54 strikeouts, 15 walks, and his first six career saves in 36 appearances (two starts) over 36 2/3 innings last year in his first year in the majors. Taylor has looked pretty solid so far in 2026, but his fantasy upside will be capped with an innings limit of around 100 planned for this year. Durability issues and workload concerns make him a shaky saves option for fantasy managers in deeper leagues.

Grant Taylor to Serve as Opener on Saturday

Chicago White Sox right-hander Grant Taylor will serve as the team's opener on Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays, according to MLB.com's Scott Merkin. Anthony Kay will pitch the bulk of the innings for the Pale Hose on Saturday against Toronto. The 23-year-old Taylor also served as Chicago's opener last Friday, and he's allowed one earned run with two walks and four strikeouts in his two innings of work in relief so far this year in his second big-league season. Taylor went 2-4 last year with a 4.91 ERA (1.42 FIP), 1.42 WHIP, six saves, 54 strikeouts, and 15 walks in 36 2/3 innings over 36 appearances (two starts). This will be Taylor's first "start" of 2026, but he won't be useful in DFS because he's likely to only pitch an inning against Toronto.

Grant Taylor to Start Home Opener on Friday

Chicago White Sox right-handed pitcher Grant Taylor will start Friday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays as an opener, according to James Fegan of SoxMachine.com. Taylor developed in the minors as a starter, but the White Sox have been using him solely as a reliever in the majors, so he'll presumably only pitch the first inning on Friday. He posted a 1.42 FIP with 13.25 K/9 in the majors last year, and he hasn't surrendered a home run since 2024 at Single-A. Through two innings of relief work this season, he has allowed one earned run and two walks while striking out four batters. As long as the White Sox keep Taylor in a short-innings role, he's not a very flashy pitching option in fantasy baseball.

Is Grant Taylor Emerging As a High-End Option in Chicago?

Chicago White Sox pitcher Grant Taylor has looked excellent this spring and is a breakout candidate to watch. The 23-year-old has outstanding stuff and can dominate when at his best, but his role is still a little undefined. Last year, he worked 36 2/3 innings in the majors in 36 games, including two starts. He picked up six saves and 54 strikeouts while throwing 37 pitches at 100 mph or faster, including a blistering 102.2 mph on June 22. He posted a 4.91 ERA but a more impressive 1.42 FIP. He is expected to work out of the bullpen, possibly for multiple innings, and has stated his goal is to throw 100 innings this year. He logged a career-high 63 1/3 innings last year in the minors and majors combined. He is shaping up to be an elite relief arm with a very high strikeout ceiling, although his durability and uncertain role make him a little tricky to lock into a spot, since his value depends on how your league treats relief arms. His strikeout potential definitely makes him a great option to watch for dynasty leagues, since the goal is to move him back to the rotation later in his career.

Grant Taylor to Transition Back to Starting Role in 2027?

Chicago White Sox right-hander Grant Taylor has a goal of reaching 100 innings pitched in 2026 in his second big-league season, and MLB.com's Scott Merkin suggests that the 23-year-old could be an option to start again in 2027. "Having got through last year, adding [Seranthony] Dom nguez, being able to slot guys in different areas, we are going to have more freedom to use Grant to win games, as opposed to fulfill some innings limit," manager Will Venable said. The addition of Seranthony Dominguez to the bullpen should free Taylor up to work multiple innings more out of the bullpen this year after he threw 36 2/3 frames in his first taste of MLB in 2025. Taylor had 37 pitches at 100 mph or faster, and he topped out at 102.2 mph on June 22. He had 54 strikeouts but an ERA of 4.91. The 23-year-old threw a career-high 63 1/3 innings last year between the minors and majors. Although high-leverage opportunities could come, most of Taylor's work this year is expected to come in long relief. Taylor's strikeout upside is obvious, but durability is a concern.

Grant Taylor Earns Fourth Save

Chicago White Sox right-hander Grant Taylor threw a perfect ninth inning to notch his fourth save in a 6-4 win over the Cleveland Guardians on Sunday. Taylor tossed just eight pitches, seven for strikes, and struck out one for his first save since July 4. The last-place White Sox don't get many save opportunities or have one go-to closer, which is a headache for fantasy managers. Taylor, who's among a few candidates for saves in their bullpen, has pitched to a 3.91 ERA with a 1.22 WHIP, 30:9 K:BB, and six holds in 22 innings as a rookie.

Grant Taylor Garnering Trade Interest

With the July 31 trade deadline nearing, teams are "all over" Chicago White Sox right-hander Grant Taylor in talks, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. For their part, the White Sox appear highly unlikely to give up Taylor. They're not even comfortable discussing him in trades, a source told Rosenthal. The 23-year-old made his major league debut June 10 and has since flashed high-octane velocity and recorded a 3.93 ERA (2.09 xERA/1.57 FIP/2.46 xFIP) with 23 strikeouts, six walks, five holds, and three saves in 18 1/3 innings. While Taylor is off to an auspicious start in relief, Rosenthal suggests that the White Sox haven't ruled out trying the 2023 second-round pick in their rotation down the line. Taylor entered the pros as a starter, but the organization moved him to the bullpen earlier this year to limit his innings.

Grant Taylor Records Six-Out Save

Chicago White Sox right-hander Grant Taylor pitched two scoreless innings to preserve a shutout and earn his second save in a 1-0 win over the San Francisco Giants on Saturday. Taylor took over for starter Adrian Houser and proceeded to retire all six batters he faced and tally a pair of strikeouts. Seventeen of his 31 pitches clocked in at 99 mph or better. The rookie has converted both save opportunities he has gotten over the past week. Saves are a rare occurrence for the 27-56 White Sox, but Taylor looks like the top choice right now in a bullpen that lacks an obvious answer at the end of games. The 23-year-old is making a strong case for the job with a 1.80 ERA and 10:1 K:BB in 10 innings since the White Sox promoted him earlier this month.

Grant Taylor Earns Save on Sunday

Chicago White Sox right-hander Grant Taylor tossed a scoreless ninth inning to preserve a 4-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday. Taylor worked around one hit and struck out one in the frame to secure the first save of his career. The rookie hurler has been solid in his first taste of the big leagues, posting a 3.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and seven strikeouts across six innings of work. He has not fully claimed the closer's role in Chicago, but he is worth a speculative add in fantasy leagues in case he does.

Grant Taylor to Start for White Sox on Friday

Chicago White Sox right-hander Grant Taylor will start for the team against the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday, according to Scott Merkin of MLB.com. Righty Davis Martin (forearm) had been slated to start, but the White Sox placed him on the 15-day injured list with a forearm strain. The White Sox called up the 23-year-old Taylor from Double-A Birmingham on June 10. He has since made four one-inning appearances and given up two earned runs on four hits with 5:1 K:BB. It figures to be a short outing for the reliever on Friday.
