Colson Montgomery Heating Up In Arizona Fall League

Chicago White Sox shortstop prospect Colson Montgomery has gotten out to a hot start through his first taste of the Arizona Fall League. Through his first 11 games, the 22-year-old has gone deep three times and held an impressive .313/.511/.656 slash line with a 10:6 BB:K ratio. The former first-round selection had struggled at times through his first look at Triple-A last season. In his first 130 games at the top level of the minor leagues, Montgomery carried an underwhelming .214/.329/.381 line with 18 home runs and a rough 69:164 BB:K ratio. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his progression during the offseason as he could contend for a spot on the Opening Day Roster.

Chicago White Sox shortstop prospect Colson Montgomery has struggled to find consistency in the batter's box through his first look at Triple-A this summer. Across 78 games, the former 22nd overall selection sits with a .212/.328/.373 line, 11 home runs, 36 RBI, seven stolen bases, and a 43:101 BB:K ratio. These numbers are on pace to be a career low for the young shortstop. Last summer at Double-A, Montgomery posted a .244/.400/.427 line and a .345/.537/.552 line at High-A. In addition, his current 29.6% K rate is eight points higher than last season. The 22-year-old could get a brief taste of the major leagues at the end of the season, but given his current performance, the White Sox may opt to save his big league debut for 2025.

Colson Montgomery Has Three-Hit, Three-RBI Night

Chicago White Sox shortstop prospect Colson Montgomery was 3-for-5 with three RBI for Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday, tying his season-high in hits and RBI for a single game. The left-handed swinging shortstop is hitting .278 with a homer and four RBI in July to raise his season batting average to .218 with 11 homers and 36 RBI. It hasn't been the best first half of the season at Triple-A for the White Sox' top overall prospect who is sporting a .714 OPS. But Montgomery has the prospect pedigree and once he starts to get hot at Charlotte, he could be looking at a call-up for the rebuilding White Sox. When he does, he has the tools to help out fantasy managers down the stretch.

Colson Montgomery Goes Deep For Triple-A Charlotte

Chicago White Sox shortstop prospect Colson Montgomery hit his 11th home run of the season on Thursday for Triple-A Charlotte. The White Sox top overall prospect is hitting just .210 on the season after hitting .195 in June. However, he is still producing in the power categories with 11 homers and 33 RBI this season. The talented 22-year-old is one of the top shortstop prospects in the game. While he is not turning in a lights-out season at Triple-A, he could still be called upon for the struggling White Sox at some point this season. He would be an immediate waiver-wire consideration upon his promotion due to his immense potential.

Colson Montgomery Improving Contact Rate

Chicago White Sox shortstop prospect Colson Montgomery saw one of the largest jumps in contact rate between April and May. In April, 71.7% of his swings had resulted in contact. In May, it increased to 80.1%. As a result, he's seen more success in May, especially with his strikeout rate. At the end of April, he was slashing .211/.324/.358 with five doubles, three home runs, 13 walks, and 38 strikeouts in 112 plate appearances. Through 88 plate appearances in May, he's slashing .233/.352/.425 with three doubles, three home runs, 13 walks, and only 20 strikeouts. Montgomery began the month on a hot streak, but he's cooled off over his last two series in Double-A Charlotte. Since May 14, he's 8-for-39 with two doubles, four walks, and 12 strikeouts, resulting in a .545 OPS. Overall, he's slashing .220/.337/.387 with eight doubles, six homers, 26 walks, and 58 strikeouts through 200 plate appearances in 2024.

Chicago White Sox shortstop prospect Colson Montgomery continued showing improvement over the weekend with a 3-for-8 performance against the Braves Triple-A affiliate that included three RBI and two extra-base hits. Montgomery struggled through in April, slashing just .211/.324/.358 with three HRs, nine RBI, and 38 strikeouts in 112 plate appearances. However, he's been turning things around in May, posting a .265/.419/.618 slash line with three HRs, six RBI, and only eight strikeouts in 43 plate appearances. Overall, Montgomery's numbers for the season have improved to .225/.351/.426 with 29 hits (including 13 extra-base hits), 6 HRs, 15 RBI, and 18 runs scored, indicating a trend in the right direction.

Chicago White Sox shortstop prospect Colson Montgomery launched another home run on Tuesday, his second in the past two days. After not tallying a long ball in his first 11 games of the season, the 22-year-old now has six in his last 19 games at Triple-A. He has an overall .230/.360/.434 line. While Montgomery seems to be settling in from a power standpoint, he is still striking out at a very high rate. The top prospect in the Chicago system has struck out 42 total times, which is on pace to become a new career-high. Montgomery should be expected to be promoted to the major league roster sometime this summer but could be called up even sooner if he can continue to showcase his raw power and drop his strikeout rate.
