Drew Romo Tallies Three Doubles and Two RBI on Tuesday

Colorado Rockies catcher prospect Drew Romo went 3-for-4 with three doubles and two RBI in Tuesday's 9-7 win against Triple-A El Paso. It was quite the day for Romo, as he recorded his most total bases and RBI in a game this season. It's been an underwhelming year overall, as he is slashing .247/.312/.412 with just two homers in 110 plate appearances in his second stint at Triple-A. The underlying metrics also aren't very encouraging, as he is chasing outside the strike zone more than 40 percent of the time, to go with just a 25 percent hard-hit rate. The 23-year-old made his MLB debut on August 17, 2024, and became the third-youngest catcher to debut in Rockies history. It's been a struggle since then, and he likely won't be on many fantasy radars this season.

Drew Romo Dealing With Finger Injury

Colorado Rockies catching prospect Drew Romo (finger) is dealing with a finger injury. Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reported that the 23-year-old suffered this injury while sliding into a base during a minor league contest last week. Romo was left off the Opening Day Triple-A roster as a result. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as he may not be sidelined for long. He entered camp as a favorite to make the MLB roster but eventually lost his spot to Hunter Goodman. In camp, Romo posted an underwhelming .118/.211/.176 slash line with just one extra-base hit and a 1:4 BB:K. Last summer, Romo made his MLB debut and tallied nine hits with three doubles across his first 16 games. He should contend for an early return to the big leagues if he performs well at Triple-A.

Adael Amador, Drew Romo Optioned To Triple-A

Colorado Rockies prospects Adael Amador and Drew Romo were both optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday. Amador was having a nice spring, going 8-for-27 (.296) with nine RBI, five runs scored, and an 8:5 BB:K. The switch-hitter is Colorado's seventh-ranked prospect and offers a blend of power and speed. Last season at Double-A, he hit 14 home runs and stole 35 bases in 100 games. Romo got off to a cold start this spring, going 2-for-17 (.118) along with a 1:4 BB:K. The Rockies' 11th-ranked prospect will head back to Triple-A, where he hit .297 with 14 home runs last season. Both had a taste of the majors in 2024, albeit with little success, but Amador offers the better fantasy profile of the two and is likelier to get back to the big leagues sooner, maybe even before summer.

Drew Romo Launches Long Ball In Second Consecutive Game

Colorado Rockies catching prospect Drew Romo went 2-for-5 at the plate on Friday evening with his second home run is as many days. Since the start of July, the 22-year-old has held a strong .300/.344/.600 line. Overall through his first extended look at Triple-A pitching, the Woodland HS product has looked quite comfortable with a stellar .302/.334/.513 slash line and 12 homer runs. He has also tallied 49 RBI and swiped three bags. Romo spent most of last summer at Double-A and held a lower .254/.313/.440 line, which suggests he has taken a significant step forward at the top level of the minor leagues. Romo is considered the ninth-best prospect in Colorado on MLB.com and should get a taste of the major leagues late in the summer.

Drew Romo Pacing PCL In Batting Average

Colorado Rockies catching prospect Drew Romo leads the Pacific Coast League in batting average after a 4-for-4 day at the plate Wednesday for Triple-A Albuquerque. The 22-year-old raised his BA to a robust .372 with the performance, which also included his first two steals of the season. The 35th overall pick in 2020 doesn't have a path to playing time in Colorado at the moment with Elias Diaz and Jacob Stallings holding down the catching duties for now, but things could open up in a hurry with an injury or trade. Also, with the Rockies not looking like a competitive club just one month into the season it would make sense to get some of the younger talent some looks at major league pitching. They already recently called up Hunter Goodman and Jordan Beck, so it seems like Romo could get his chance by summertime if he continues to rake, or at least soon thereafter.
