Colorado Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon announced his retirement from Major League Baseball on Monday. Blackmon has decided to hang up his cleats at the conclusion of the 2024 season after an iconic 14-year career with the Rockies. Blackmon represented Colorado in four All-Star games and also won two Silver Slugger awards. Chuck Nazty is 38 years old but hit homers in back-to-back games over the weekend against the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers and has 11 homers and 48 RBI in 118 at-bats this year. Blackmon is the team's career leader in triples with 67, and his 1,797 hits, 2,942 total bases, 333 doubles and 1,618 games played rank second in team history only to Hall of Famer Todd Helton. During the bearded outfielder's six-year prime from 2014-19, he hit .306 with a 120 OPS-plus, 163 home runs and 472 RBI. Blackmon was aided by Coors Field, but it definitely didn't define his greatness.

None of Colorado's replacements are particularly attractive DFS sleepers, even at Coors Field.

Blackmon has also struggled in August as he continues to decline offensively, going 11-for-52 (.212) with a homer, five RBI and eight strikeouts in 13 games played.

Hunter Goodman is serving as the designated hitter and is batting sixth, rookie Jordan Beck is in left and hitting seventh, and Sam Hilliard draws the start in right and is in the eight-hole against D-backs lefty Jordan Montgomery. Blackmon hasn't been terrible against southpaws this year, hitting .267 (20-for-75), but only one of his seven home runs on the year have come against them. Goodman is hitting just .182 (28-for-154) in his second year in the big leagues, but he has some DFS sleeper appeal because of his power (eight homers in 53 games).

Along with centerfield staple Brenton Doyle, the Rockies' outfield will consist of Sam Hilliard in right field and Hunter Goodman in left. Neither of Hilliard or Goodman are a good fantasy option, but if DFS players are looking for a lesser owned player that could make an impact then Hilliard would be the choice as his 96 OPS+ is far greater than Goodman's 55 OPS+.

The 38-year-old responded well to concussion tests after the game, which was a great sign. Rockies skipper Bud Black expressed that Blackmon could return to the lineup as early as Saturday. Fantasy managers should pay close attention to the Colorado starting nine ahead of their evening match against the San Diego Padres.

Blackmon is hitting .256 with seven home runs, 34 RBI, five stolen bases and 42 runs scored in 2024. McMahon is hitting .267 with 15 home runs, 47 RBI, three stolen bases and 50 runs scored.

As of now there should be no concern in regards to the lefty's health, rather it'd appear he's getting a bit of rest while the Rockies trot out Kris Bryant in right field. The Rockies and Giants are also scheduled for a doubleheader on Saturday, so this may just be a way to keep the 38-year-old fresh for the twinbill. Blackmon has hit for an .869 OPS in July, his best month in 2024 and should be expected to be back in the lineup at some point this weekend. The next chance Blackmon will get will be either against Blake Snell in the first game of the doubleheader or against Hayden Birdsong in the second game.

Blackmon has actually hit better against lefties this year with a .294 average (20-for-68) but with only one of his seven homers.
