Chris Hatcher Fills An Inning; A Mediocre RP In 2018
Oakland Athletics middle reliever Chris Hatcher had a mediocre inning of relief in a 9-2 victory against Toronto Sunday afternoon. He went one inning allowing one hit and one walk while striking out one batter. Hatcher has a very poor strikeout rate (14.1%) to go with an average walk rate (9.9%). He is consistently getting used in situations that are just to fill innings, not high-leverage stressful outings. Despite that, he carries a 5.17 ERA and 1.91 WHIP. Hatcher should not be owned, even in holds leagues.
Oakland Athletics relief pitcher Chris Hatcher avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.15 million contract. Hatcher was acquired from the Dodgers last August and posted a 3.52 ERA in 23 innings with the A's down the stretch. The 32-year-old right-hander will continue to work in a middle-relief role for Oakland in 2018.
A's reliever Chris Hatcher earned the save on Wednesday in the A's 3-1 victory over the Angels. The save was his first of the year. Incumbent closer Blake Treinen has been overworked and ineffective over the last few days, likely leading to the switch. No announcement has been made about a permanent switch in the ninth inning for the A's, so this may just be a one time opportunity for Hatcher. The 32-year-old journeyman has a 4.53 ERA and 1.36 WHIP on the season and would be a very low-end closing option if given the role, which seems unlikely.
