Corey Dickerson News
The Washington Nationals requested unconditional release waivers on outfielder Corey Dickerson on Wednesday and also optioned infielder Luis Garcia to Triple-A Rochester. Dickerson entered the day hitting .252/.285/.357 with two home runs, 17 RBI and 11 runs scored in 143 at-bats as a platoon guy in left field for the Nats. The 34-year-old could get picked up as a bench bat by a contender now that he's on the open market. And with Dickerson now out of the picture in D.C., it could mean regular playing time for Stone Garrett. Garcia has been ice-cold at the plate since the All-Star break and is batting .260 (98-for-377) with six homers, 42 RBI, eight steals and 46 runs scored in 99 games. Expect Ildemaro Vargas and Michael Chavis to split playing time at the keystone moving forward.
Washington Nationals outfielder Corey Dickerson is not in the starting lineup on Tuesday against left-hander Jesus Luzardo and the Miami Marlins. Dickerson doesn't see much playing time against left-handers at this point in his career, and he's not very useful for fantasy managers in mixed leagues. The 33-year-old left-handed hitter has played in only two games this year, thanks to a calf strain that had him on the injured list for a while. Dickerson has only had four plate appearances and is still searching for his first hit while striking out twice. Stone Garrett is getting the nod in left field for the Nats and is hitting eighth against Luzardo. Garrett is batting .254 (17-for-67) with a homer and seven RBI in 19 games played in 2023.
Washington Nationals outfielder Corey Dickerson (calf), who has been on the injured list since April 1 with a left calf strain, is starting a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Rochester on Friday night. The Nationals will probably give Dickerson as much time as he needs in the minors before bringing him back to the big leagues. The expectation is that when he's healthy, he'll return to seeing regular time in left field against right-handed pitching for the rebuilding Nats. The 33-year-old left-handed-hitting veteran doesn't have a whole lot to offer fantasy managers these days, though, especially in a part-time role. Before getting hurt, he went hitless with two strikeouts in his two games played.
