Corey Dickerson Released, Luis Garcia Sent To Triple-A

The Washington Nationals requested unconditional release waivers on outfielder Corey Dickerson on Wednesday and also optioned infielder Luis Garcia to Triple-A Rochester. Dickerson entered the day hitting .252/.285/.357 with two home runs, 17 RBI and 11 runs scored in 143 at-bats as a platoon guy in left field for the Nats. The 34-year-old could get picked up as a bench bat by a contender now that he's on the open market. And with Dickerson now out of the picture in D.C., it could mean regular playing time for Stone Garrett. Garcia has been ice-cold at the plate since the All-Star break and is batting .260 (98-for-377) with six homers, 42 RBI, eight steals and 46 runs scored in 99 games. Expect Ildemaro Vargas and Michael Chavis to split playing time at the keystone moving forward.

Corey Dickerson Sitting Against Southpaw

Washington Nationals outfielder Corey Dickerson is not in the starting lineup on Tuesday against left-hander Jesus Luzardo and the Miami Marlins. Dickerson doesn't see much playing time against left-handers at this point in his career, and he's not very useful for fantasy managers in mixed leagues. The 33-year-old left-handed hitter has played in only two games this year, thanks to a calf strain that had him on the injured list for a while. Dickerson has only had four plate appearances and is still searching for his first hit while striking out twice. Stone Garrett is getting the nod in left field for the Nats and is hitting eighth against Luzardo. Garrett is batting .254 (17-for-67) with a homer and seven RBI in 19 games played in 2023.

Corey Dickerson Starting Rehab Assignment Friday

Washington Nationals outfielder Corey Dickerson (calf), who has been on the injured list since April 1 with a left calf strain, is starting a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Rochester on Friday night. The Nationals will probably give Dickerson as much time as he needs in the minors before bringing him back to the big leagues. The expectation is that when he's healthy, he'll return to seeing regular time in left field against right-handed pitching for the rebuilding Nats. The 33-year-old left-handed-hitting veteran doesn't have a whole lot to offer fantasy managers these days, though, especially in a part-time role. Before getting hurt, he went hitless with two strikeouts in his two games played.

Corey Dickerson Taking Swings, Sean Doolittle Throwing

Washington Nationals outfielder Corey Dickerson (calf) traveled with the team to Colorado and is taking light swings but not running yet. Relief pitcher Sean Doolittle (elbow) continues to throw off flat ground but hasn't gotten back on a mound yet. Dickerson was put on the 10-day injured list after straining his left calf last Saturday, and he's unlikely to be activated when he's eligible to return next week. In Dickerson's absence, Alex Call is seeing more playing time in left field. Doolittle had surgery last July to fix a partially torn UCL in his left elbow, and we're unlikely to see him in the big leagues until at least sometime in May.

Corey Dickerson Placed On Injured List With Calf Strain

Washington Nationals outfielder Corey Dickerson (calf) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Sunday with a left calf strain. In a corresponding move, the team recalled outfielder Stone Garrett from Triple-A, and he could see some playing time in left field alongside Alex Call with Dickerson on the shelf. Call is starting in left field and is hitting sixth in the batting order on Sunday against the Atlanta Braves and left-hander Jared Shuster. The 33-year-old Dickerson was injured on Saturday, and he went 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts in the first two games of the regular season before landing on the injured list. Dickerson is by no means a must-hold in shallow mixed leagues.

Corey Dickerson Has Been Hitting Second

Washington Nationals outfielder Corey Dickerson has hit in the two-hole in all three of his Grapefruit League games so far, and manager Dave Martinez has praised him as a "professional hitter." There's a chance the Nats keep the 33-year-old veteran near the top of the lineup when regular season games begin at the end of March. It's indicative of the state of Washington's roster rebuild, as Dickerson hasn't done much at the plate in recent seasons. He hit .267/.300/.399 with a career-low .698 OPS, six home runs, 36 RBI and 28 runs scored in 297 plate appearances and 96 games with the St. Louis Cardinals last year. Dickerson won't kill your batting average in NL-only leagues, but he probably won't provide much else.

Corey Dickerson Lands One-Year Deal With Nationals

The Washington Nationals agreed to a one-year deal worth $2.25 million with free-agent outfielder Corey Dickerson on Tuesday. Dickerson can make an extra $750,000 in 2023 via performance bonuses. The rebuilding Nats will take a chance on the 33-year-old veteran outfielder after he slashed .267/.300/.399 with a .698 OPS, six home runs, 36 RBI and 28 runs scored in 297 plate appearances and 96 games with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2022. In a Washington outfield with very few proven players at the major-league level, Dickerson should be in line to enter the 2023 campaign in the strong side of a platoon against right-handed pitchers in left field. It will give him some appeal in deep mixed leagues for playing time alone, but Dickerson doesn't have much upside at this point in his career.

Rockies Have Interest In Edward Cabrera, Corey Dickerson

The Colorado Rockies have talked about acquiring starting pitcher Edward Cabrera from the Miami Marlins, who are seeking hitters, even after signing infielder Jean Segura this week. The Marlins have sought Rockies infielder Brendan Rodgers. The Marlins plan on using Segura at third base and already have Jazz Chisholm locked in at the keystone. The Rockies also have interest in a left-handed-hitting outfielder and might consider bringing Corey Dickerson, who began his career in Colorado, back into the fold. The Rockies can always use more pitching, and Cabrera would represent a young, controllable arm. He's coming off a solid second year in the big leagues in which he went 6-4 with a 3.01 ERA (4.59 FIP), 1.07 WHIP and 25.8 percent strikeout rate in just 14 starts covering 71 2/3 innings.

Corey Dickerson Suffers Setback In His Recovery

St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Corey Dickerson (calf) has been on the injured list since early June due to a calf injury. On Monday, Cardinals President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak told the media that Dickerson had re-injured his calf in a different area. This new injury led to his rehab assignment being paused over this past weekend. Mozeliak stated that Dickerson's rehab "essentially starts back at square one" following the re-injury. The 33-year-old did some work in the batting cage on Monday. We don't have an updated timeline for him at this point, but if can avoid another setback, he should begin another rehab assignment somewhat soon.

Corey Dickerson Continues Dealing With Pain

St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Corey Dickerson (calf) has been sidelined roughly three weeks and doesn't appear to be close to returning. He played the outfield for the first time during his rehab assignment on Wednesday. However, Dickerson sat out on Thursday due to lingering soreness in his calf. The Cardinals are likely to want Dickerson pain-free before he returns to the big league roster. However, Dickerson was struggling with the bat before his injury, so fantasy managers can move on from him.
