Deivi Garcia Agrees With Brewers On Minor-League Deal

Free-agent right-hander Deivi Garcia agreed with the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday on a minor-league deal that includes an invitation to major-league spring training, according to sources. Garcia was once a top prospect in the New York Yankees system and will now become a reclamation project for the Brewers. The 25-year-old's stuff still grades out well despite sporting a 7.07 ERA (5.24 FIP), 1.93 WHIP, 15 strikeouts and 11 walks in 14 innings out of the bullpen at the major-league level with the Chicago White Sox in 2024. He was no better at Triple-A Charlotte on the farm with a 6.18 ERA. Garcia debuted with the Yankees in the COVID-shortened 2020 season and has a 5.02 ERA and 1.41 WHIP with a 20.4% strikeout rate and 10.3% walk rate. He's going to need to lower his walk rate significantly if he wants to resurface in the big leagues with the Brew Crew.

Deivi Garcia Looking Good This Spring

New York Yankees right-hander Deivi Garcia looked "really good" in 3 1/3 innings of relief in a spring game on Monday, according to manager Aaron Boone. "It's been encouraging to see how good his stuff's been really since the start of camp," Boone said. Garcia has allowed two runs in 7 1/3 Grapefruit League innings so far. His velocity is up and has credited his success due to an improved cutter. The 23-year-old Dominican has had his share of struggles in the last two seasons, mostly in the minor leagues, but it looks like he may be taking the next step in 2023. Command has been a big issue for the young right-hander, so he'll need to get that in control if he wants to see an extended stay at the big-league level this year.

Deivi Garcia Sent To Triple-A After Strong Spring

New York Yankees right-handed pitcher Deivi Garcia was optioned to Triple-A on Monday, but he left the big league club on a positive note. The 22-year-old had a strong showing this spring. He pitched five innings and allowed just three hits, no walks and one earned run while striking out two. Most notably, he showed improved velocity. His fastball saw an average velocity of 95.5 mph, up from 92.2 mph during his stint in the majors last year. The pitch topped out at 96.8 mph this spring. Garcia was a train-wreck at both Triple-A and in the majors last year. Over 90.2 innings at Triple-A in 2021, he had an ugly 6.85 ERA that was heavily due to his 6.8 BB/9 average.

Deivi Garcia Charged With Second Loss, Optioned To Triple-A

New York Yankees starting pitcher Deivi Garcia was saddled with his second loss of the season on Saturday against the Detroit Tigers. Garcia pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits with one walk and three strikeouts. The 22-year-old earned a solid 30 percent CSW, called strikes plus whiffs, with his changeup registering as one of his better offerings of the night. Still, the results just haven't been there so far in two major league starts this season, as Garcia has pitched to a 6.48 ERA. The Yankees optioned the young starter to their Triple-A affiliate for more repetitions. It wouldn't be surprising to see Garcia back in the majors at some point this season, given how highly the Yankees think of him.

Deivi Garcia To Start In Weekend Series Against Tigers

New York Yankees starting pitcher Deivi Garcia is scheduled to pitch one of the games in this weekend's upcoming series against the Detroit Tigers. Garcia was initially slated to pitch this weekend anyway, though his presence will be even more welcome with the news that Corey Kluber is expected to be sidelined for at least eight weeks. The 22-year-old made a spot start in the Bronx earlier this year and allowed three walks and two runs over four innings in a loss to the Baltimore Orioles. He has since pitched at the Triple-A level, where he recorded a 5.17 ERA with 21 strikeouts in 15 2/3 innings. There's no doubt that Garcia possesses strikeout upside at the big league level, thanks to an excellent slider and curveball. He'll need to work on exhibiting better control, as he's averaged 4.0 walks per nine innings in five minor league seasons. He's worth a pickup in leagues for those who need starting pitching help.

Deivi Garcia Strikes Out Nine In Latest Triple-A Start

New York Yankees starting pitcher Deivi Garcia turned heads in his latest outing for the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Sunday afternoon. Garcia pitched five innings, allowing a pair of hits, a run, and one walk while striking out nine batters to earn the victory. The 21-year-old registered 12 swings-and-misses, mixing in a fair amount of off-speed stuff to the Lehigh Valley batters. Garcia has now pitched 13 2/3 innings at the Triple-A level this season, recording a 3.38 ERA and 1.28 WHIP while fanning 19 hitters. Garcia was recalled to the big club for a spot start earlier this season, though he might see a permanent call-up later in the year if he can keep pitching like this.

Deivi Garcia Takes The Loss Monday, Optioned To Alternate Site

New York Yankees starting pitcher Deivi Garcia took the loss on Monday in his first start of the 2021 season against Baltimore. Garcia lasted four innings, allowing two runs on a trio of walks and hits while fanning four batters. The top prospect surrendered a home run on his second pitch of the game but showed resilience to bounce back in getting out of the inning with just one run allowed. While Garcia's command was a bit off, he still pitched well enough to keep his team in the game. It appears the 21-year-old was only ever going to make a spot start as the team optioned him back to the alternate site following the game. Garcia is definitely one to keep an eye on, especially in dynasty formats.

Deivi Garcia Recalled From Alternate Site

New York Yankees starting pitcher Deivi Garcia was recalled from the team's alternate site on Monday ahead of his start against the Orioles. Manager Aaron Boone had tabbed Garcia over the weekend as a possible candidate to start if the Yankees went to a six-man rotation for the coming week- and the move is now official. It's unclear how long Garcia will be with the big club, but he is lined up for a good performance right off the bat against an Orioles' lineup that has posted the third-worst OPS and struck out the ninth-most times in the majors this year. He should be on the streaming radar in redraft leagues as well as a potential DFS play on Monday night.

Deivi Garcia Lined Up To Start Monday

New York Yankees starting pitcher Deivi Garcia has been listed as the team's probable starter for Monday's game against the Orioles. Manager Aaron Boone said that Garcia starting is not a 100-percent certainty- but it is lining up that way. The 21-year-old is currently on the taxi squad, so he would have to be called up before Monday's contest. Garcia flashed some strikeout upside in six starts for the Yankees last year- posting a 33:6 strikeout-to-walk ratio- and could be a streaming option and intriguing DFS play against an Orioles' lineup that has posted the fifth-worst strikeout rate in the majors this year.

Deivi Garcia A Candidate For Spot Start

New York Yankees starting pitcher Deivi Garcia is a candidate for a spot start if the team opts to go with a six-man rotation coming out of the weekend. Garcia pitched five innings at the alternate site earlier this week and would be fully rested and a possible option, as a member of the taxi squad, to start on Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday for New York if they want to get their other starters some additional rest. The 21-year-old impressed in his first big-league action last season, posting a strong 33:6 strikeout-to-walk ratio despite a 4.98 ERA. If the Yankees opt to go with Garcia, he'd be slated to pitch against either the Indians or the Orioles. Baltimore would be the softer of the two matchups, as they've posted the fifth-worst strikeout rate in the majors so far.
