Delino DeShields Signs Minor League Deal With Braves
The Atlanta Braves have signed outfielder Delino DeShields to a minor league contract. The 29-year-old was a member of the Miami Marlins this spring. He appeared in four spring games with the Marlins and went 1-for-8 with a pair of strikeouts. The team released him just a few days before Opening Day. After spending his first five MLB seasons with the Texas Rangers, DeShields has bounced around the league over the past few years. He made 25 appearances with the Cincinnati Reds last year and slashed .255/.375/.426 with one home run, two stolen bases, six RBI and four runs.
Outfielder Delino DeShields was sent on a minor league assignment by the Cincinnati Reds. However, he refused the assignment and elected to become a free agent instead. The 29-year-old split the 2021 season between three organizations. He began the year with the Texas Rangers, then spent time with the Boston Red Sox before joining the Reds. He appeared in 25 games for the Reds and slashed .255/.375/.426 with one home run, two stolen bases, six RBI and four runs.
The Cincinnati Reds selected the contract of outfielder Delino DeShields Jr. on Wednesday. DeShields was acquired in a trade with the Boston Red Sox just a day earlier, on Tuesday, in exchange for cash considerations. The news is particularly notable as DeShields' father, Delino DeShields Sr., is the first base coach for the Reds. Delino Jr. began the year in the Texas Rangers' organization and he has spent the majority of the season at Triple-A, where he has slashed .252/.385/.366 with six home runs, 21 stolen bases and 56 runs over 84 games. He appeared in both games of the Reds' doubleheader on Wednesday, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. The Reds have a crowded outfield right now, so don't expect DeShields to get more than a few starts per week while he's with the team.
The Boston Red Sox have acquired outfielder Delino DeShields in a trade with the Texas Rangers in exchange for cash considerations. The 28-year-old DeShields will be heading to Triple-A Worcester as he joins the organization. DeShields, once one of the Rangers' top prospects, has spent the entire 2021 season at Triple-A Round Rock for the Rangers. Over 66 games at Round Rock, he slashed .263/.392/.368 with five home runs. He could be an option to give the Red Sox some outfield depth if rookie Jarren Duran continues to struggle.
Texas Rangers outfielder Delino DeShields could possibly be on the move here soon. It appears that the New York Yankees are showing interest in the 29-year-old speedy outfielder. This trade would make sense on paper as the Yankees are shorthanded in the outfield due to injuries. Texas has not been using DeShields, despite him absolutely crushing the ball in the minors. He's posting a .412/.500/.706 batting line in 40 plate appearances with Triple-A Round Rock this season. It's unlikely that the Rangers get much back in return here. Although, DeShields might be able to hold fantasy value in the short term, assuming he gets consistent playing time in New York.
Outfielder Delino DeShields has rejoined the Texas Rangers on a Minor League contract with an invite to Spring Training for the upcoming 2021 year. DeShields served as primarily an everyday player for the club from 2015-20 before a trade to Cleveland, which saw him produce a .252/.310/.318 slash line across 37 games last year. Known for his stolen base acumen (four seasons of at least 20 steals with the Rangers) and top-tier speed both on the basepaths and defensively, DeShields could play his way into a full-time deal with a strong spring. Leody Taveras appears to be Texas' future in center, although the Rangers' lack of depth and familiarity could open the door for DeShields to see some early-season at-bats.
Cleveland Indians outfielder Delino DeShields went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Twins. DeShields led off the third inning with a single and stole second base. The 28-year-old DeShields picked up his first stolen base of the year. He had 20 or more steals in four of his first five major-league seasons. In 2020, he's added three RBI, four runs scored, and a .237 batting average across 44 plate appearances. He's not currently fantasy relevant in the majority of league formats.
Cleveland Indians outfielder Delino DeShields is absent from the clubs starting lineup Sunday against Tigers southpaw Tarik Skubal due to the hip tightness that forced him to depart Saturdays game early. Cleveland is thin in the outfield after having sent Bradley Zimmer down just a day earlier, paving the way for Greg Allen to see the vast majority of playing time in center should DeShields ailment keep him out of the mix. DeShields has opened the year 8-for-32 at the dish, but with little power having been displayed during his career, he has little season-long intrigue. His next chance to rejoin the starting lineup comes Monday against Minnesota and right-hander Kenta Maeda, which would make for a tough DFS matchup.
Cleveland Indians outfielder Delino DeShields (undisclosed) is expected to rejoin the team in the next day or two. The speedster was part of the haul that sent Corey Kluber to Texas, but was placed in the injured list with an undisclosed injury prior to Opening Day. DeShields did test positive at the beginning of summer camp for COVID-19, so that is likely the reason he was sidelined. The Indians entire outfield has struggled, so its like DeShields will get some early at-bats with the chance to earn a full time role with his new team. DeShields is a good pickup for owners looking to add speed to their roster.
Cleveland Indians outfielder Delino DeShieldsis back with the team after testing positive for COVID-19. He has now tested negative twice after his positive test prior to summer camp. Projected to be the Tribe's fourth outfielder in 2020, DeShields offers some cheap speed late in drafts in deep mixed and AL-only leagues. He racked up 106 stolen bases and 288 runs scored in his five seasons with the Texas Rangers from 2015 to 2019.
