The Minnesota Twins plan to keep right-hander Dillon Gee in their big league rotation for now. Gee is scheduled to make his next start against the Kansas City Royals on Friday. Gee has been a pleasant surprise since joining the Twins on August 3, compiling a 3.18 ERA along with 21 strikeouts in 22 2/3 innings of work. The right-hander began the year with the Texas Rangers before catching on with Minnesota. With Hector Santiago still struggling with a back issue, we could see Gee in the starting rotation for the foreseeable future if he continues to pitch well.
Minnesota Twins pitcher Dillon Gee will start for the Twins against the Blue Jays on Saturday. The Twins were deciding between Tim Melville and Gee for the fifth spot in the rotation, giving Gee the nod. Both started in Monday's doubleheader against the White Sox, but Melville was subsequently designated for assignment after allowing five runs on four hits in 3 1/3 innings . In five appearances with the Twins this season (four in relief, plus Monday's start), Gee holds a 1.93 ERA and 0.80 WHIP.
Dillon Gee Expected To Make First Start For Twins Monday
The Minnesota Twins are expected to have right-hander Dillon Gee start one of the games of a doubleheader on Monday. Gee, who started the season with the Texas Rangers, has made four appearances for the Twins, all out of the bullpen. Gee will take the mound against the Chicago White Sox in a road start. Gee pitched surprisingly effectively this season, posting a 3.16 ERA while averaging 7.71 strikeouts per nine innings. The White Sox are among the worst offenses in baseball against right-handed pitching, putting Gee on the radar as a tournament dart throw in daily fantasy leagues.
The Minnesota Twins made a handful of roster moves on Tuesday following a busy trade deadline on Monday which opened up two roster spots. They recalled right-handed pitcher Dillon Gee from Triple-A Rochester, where he's compiled a 3-1 record and 2.00 ERA in five starts. Previous starter Kyle Gibson was bumped from the rotation to make room for Garcia, but he will remain in the minors for now. Gee will now fill the rotation spot previously held by Jaime Garcia. They also activated Byron Buxton, who had been sidelined with a groin strain. Buxton missed 14 games and just finished up a rehab assignment in Triple-A. Buxton's return will push rookie Zack Granite back to a reserve role. Buxton is hitting .218 with five homers and 16 steals this season.
Texas Rangers pitcher Dillon Gee will make his first start of the season Tuesday against the Mets in place of starter A.J. Griffin, who was placed on the 10-day disabled list at the end of May due to a left intercostal strain. The 31-year-old Gee has pitched exclusively out of the bullpen to this point in 2017, having allowed four unearned runs in 6 2/3 innings. Gee threw four innings in his last relief appearance, which could indicate that he will not be on a rigid pitch count, but it's probably too soon to consider using him as a streaming option against his former squad.
