Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Drew Anderson and outfielder Dylan Cozens were both sent to Triple-A on Thursday. Anderson was 2-0 with a 0.71 ERA in four Grapefruit League outings while striking out 12 and walking two in 12 2/3 innings. The 24-year-old will likely be the first or second call if the team needs rotation help this year. The cutter that he developed this spring had become a real weapon for him. Cozens hit .256 (10-for-39) with four home runs, seven RBI, four walks and 15 strikeouts this spring. Both players should be up in the big leagues at some point this year if the Phils need extra players due to injuries.
The Philadelphia Phillies called up outfielders Aaron Altherr and Dylan Cozens from Triple-A Lehigh Valley with rosters expanding on Saturday. Shortstop Pedro Florimon (foot) was also activated from the 60-day disabled list. Altherr struggled mightily earlier this year and was sent down after hitting .171 with six homers and 33 RBI in 210 at-bats. Cozens has two hits in 20 at-bats (.100) in his first taste of the majors this year. Florimon has been out since May 29 and will provide depth in the middle infield. All three players are unlikely to play much down the stretch and can be avoided.
The Philadelphia Phillies optioned outfielder Dylan Cozens to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday and recalled pitcher Enyel De Los Santos in a corresponding move. Cozens had just two hits (one homer) and 14 strikeouts in 20 at-bats in his first taste of the big leagues. He's likely to be back up as outfield depth when rosters expand next month. De Los Santos is expected to pitch in relief, where he won't have any fantasy value.
The Philadelphia Phillies recalled outfielder Dylan Cozens from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday. Cozens had just two hits (one homer) in 18 at-bats (.111) with the Phils earlier this year, although he was hitting very well on the farm. He could split time with Nick Williams in the outfield, but Cozens probably won't see enough playing time to be a viable option in mixed leagues.
Taking on the Milwaukee Brewers at Citizens Bank Park on Friday, the Philadelphia Phillies seemingly lost another outfielder due to injury. Dylan Cozens, who was promoted to replace the injured Rhys Hoskins, exited in the second inning with what the club is calling left quadriceps tightness. The 24-year-old has appeared in four games for the Phillies, hitting .222 with a home run and two RBI. Regardless, Hoskins appears set to be activated from the disabled list as early as Saturday, meaning Cozens was going to see less playing time or be demoted altogether.
The Philadelphia Phillies and Chicago Cubs were locked in a 3-3 tie in the ninth inning at Wrigley Field on Wednesday night. After Aaron Altherr singled to put the go-ahead run on base, rookie Dylan Cozens, who took over earlier for Nick Williams, stepped up to the plate. In his third game, the 24-year-old drilled a clutch, two-run home run to left field that appeared to give the Phillies a decisive lead. It was only Cozens second hit since being promoted in light of Rhys Hoskins injury and subsequent disabled list stint. If Williams misses some games, Cozens will see starting time at some point this week.
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Rhys Hoskins (jaw) said that he expects that he will be able to return from the 10-day disabled list when first eligible. He will have a follow up appointment next week to help determine that. It would be good news for owners of the slugger, as it could have been a much longer stint if he needed surgery. Dylan Cozens will help fill in for the 25-year old. He doesn't hold very much fantasy value.
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Dylan Cozens is making his MLB debut against the San Francisco Giants on Friday. He was batting .226/.325/.440 with 10 home runs at Triple-A Lehigh Valley this season. He is expected to receive some starts due to Rhys Hoskins (jaw) landing on the disabled list. Cozens won't likely hit for average, but could help fantasy owners that need home runs.
