Eddie Butler Takes Loss Monday

Texas Rangers relief pitcher Eddie Butler took the loss in Monday's game against the Seattle Mariners. Butler pitched the 12th innings, and gave up an earned run on two hits and a walk. Butler now has a 4.56 ERA on the season, with 13 strikeouts in 23 2/3 relief innings. The Rangers are looking to stretch Butler out in a bullpen role, with a view to him possibly joining the starting rotation later in the season. However, Butler is unlikely to offer much fantasy value, even if he does become a starter. Butler may have slight value as a spot starter when faced with a good matchup.

Eddie Butler Gets First Career Save Thursday

Texas Rangers relief pitcher Eddie Butler locked down the first save of his career Thursday. Butler came in to relieve Yovani Gallardo with the Rangers leading 13-5 in the sixth innings. Butler gave up three earned runs on five hits and no walks in 3 2/3 innings. Part of the reason Butler went so long in relief was to allow the Rangers bullpen to rest. However, it is also a way of the Rangers stretching him out in the hope he may be able to make some starts down the stretch. Butler is unlikely to get any more saves this season, but he may have fantasy value as a spot starter later in the year.

Eddie Butler Heads to Texas in Cole Hamels Deal

Chicago Cubs pitcher Eddie Butler is heading to Arlington as part of the Cole Hamels trade with the Texas Rangers. Butler recently returned from the 60-day DL, but can pitch in both the rotation and bullpen. The Rangers also receive righty pitcher Rollie Lacy and a player to be named later. Hamels officially heads to the North Side of Chicago.

Eddie Butler Activated From 60-Day DL

Chicago Cubs pitcher Eddie Butler has been activated from the 60-day disabled list prior to the team's game on Tuesday. Luke Farrell was demoted to Triple-A in a corresponding move. Butler has been out since April 19 with a groin strain. On the season, he has pitched to a 4.30 ERA and a 10/5 K/BB ratio. He may earn some spot starts in the second half, but Butler will mostly work in middle relief, limiting his fantasy appeal.

Eddie Butler Lands On 10-Day Disabled List, Luke Farrell Called Up

Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Eddie Butler (groin) has landed on the disabled list with a right groin strain. Butler has been operating in long relief for the Cubs and doesnt hold fantasy value. Relief pitcher Luke Farrell has been promoted to take his spot on the roster and can be avoided in all formats.

Eddie Butler Suffers Loss Despite Strong Effort

After coming in to pitch seven innings out of the bullpen, Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Eddie Butler drew a tough luck loss. Butler got the first two batters out in the bottom of the 17th inning before allowing back-to-back singles, Butler was then pulled for closer Brandon Morrow who gave up the game winning run off of a Miguel Rojas RBI single. Butler certainly earned his paycheck tonight, but will likely be rested for the next few days.

Eddie Butler Excellent Against Nationals

Chicago Cubs starter Eddie Butler was excellent on Monday in D.C. against the Nationals throwing five innings for four hits, no walks, and no runs. The rest of the team also held on enough to give Butler the win. Butler now owns a 3.71 ERA over nine starts this year, but manager Joe Maddon still shows an unwillingness to let him pitch very far into games. Butler threw only 64 pitches on Monday - his fewest in any start this year. Perhaps this time Butler was yanked due to the heart of the Nationals order coming up. Butler has not pitched six innings since his first start in May and remains unrosterable in quality start leagues unless wildly desperate for ratio help. Teammate Mike Montgomery has pitched quality starts his last two outings and it raises the question of who Kyle Hendricks will replace when he returns to the rotation.

Eddie Butler Only Lasts Four Innings

Chicago Cubs pitcher Eddie Butler threw 92 pitches in four innings on Tuesday, allowing one run on five hits against the Padres. Butler earned a no decision, striking out four batters and allowing three walks against San Diego. This is the second consecutive start where Butler (3-2) did not factor in the decision and has only reached the sixth inning three times in eight starts this season. Butler has 25 strikeouts and 21 walks in 38 2/3 innings this season and his high walk rate and low strikeout rate has led to a 1.42 WHIP. He will face the Nationals in Washington on June 26.

Eddie Butler Excellent on Monday

Chicago Cubs fifth starter Eddie Butler recovered well from a rough last outing and pitched 5 2/3 innings against the Marlins at Wrigley on Monday. Butler gave up just one run on three hits and one walk to earn his third win of the year. Other than the rough start in San Diego, Butler has done his job well. The only concern is that manager Joe Maddon still seems reluctant to really let him loose after pulling him on Monday after throwing just 66 pitches. If you need quality starts, Butler hasn't been pitching deep enough, but he's been doing well getting wins.

Eddie Butler Takes Loss Against Padres

Chicago Cubs starter Eddie Butler took the loss in Tuesday's contest against the Padres. Butler pitched 4 1/3 innings and gave up six runs on seven hits and three walks. Tuesday's game caused Butler's ERA to shoot up to 4.42. Butler has only pitched 18 1/3 innings over his first fours starts with the Cubs, though he has two wins. However, if you find yourself in a league where quality starts matter, Butler probably doesn't need to be owned except in deep leagues.
