The Kansas City Royals have added relief pitcher Enny Romero to the 25-man roster after claiming him off waivers the day before. Romero is a hard-throwing lefty reliever that can touch 96 mph on the gun, so if he can pan out, he could be a valuable weapon for a KC team that is just starting to do a full rebuild. The Royals demoted starting pitcher Trevor Oaks back to Triple-A Omaha to make room for Romero.
The Kansas City Royals have made another waiver claim by picking up relief pitcher Enny Romero after he was waived by the Pirates. Romero hasn't been effective this season in limited work, but he posted a 3.56 ERA for the Nationals last year in short relief. The 27-year-old is nothing more than a flier by KC at the moment, but with the team expected to be very active at the trade deadline, Romero could see a roster spot and place in the late innings for the Royals.
Jose Osuna Optioned; Enny Romero Cut For Nick Kingham
Pittsburgh Pirates infielder Jose Osuna was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Monday. Osuna only had 16 plate appearances in the month of June. He managed two hits and had four strikeouts. Enny Romero was also designated for assignment on Monday in order to make room for Nick Kingham. Kingham will start Monday against the Dodgers and will likely get a second start of the week against the Phillies on Sunday. He was called up to take Chad Kuhl's spot in the rotation. Kingham is a good option for fantasy owners streaming pitchers in deeper leagues.
The Pittsburgh Pirates designated relief pitcher Enny Romero for assignment on Sunday to make room for starting pitcher Nick Kingham on the active roster. Romero was claimed off of waivers by the Pirates a little over two weeks ago and appeared in just two games with the team. The southpaw struck out five and allowed five runs (two earned) on seven hits and three walks in his time with Pittsburgh. Another team may claim Romero based on his strikeout potential alone, as he posted a career-high 26.5 percent strikeout rate with the Washington Nationals last year and sits at 23.7 percent for his career.
The Pittsburgh Pirates claimed reliever Enny Romero off of waivers from the Washington Nationals on Saturday. The left-hander was designated for assignment by the Nats on April 7 after a pair of uninspiring appearances in which he gave up three runs on five hits and a walk in two innings. The Pirates desperately need some bullpen help, as their relief corps ranks second-to-last in baseball in ERA (6.90). They're hoping Romero can recapture his 2017 form. Last year, he posted a 3.56 ERA, 3.86 FIP, and career-best 26.5 percent strikeout rate in 55 2/3 innings. Romero has some strikeout upside, but his shaky control (career walk rate of 11.1 percent) makes him a non-entity to fantasy managers.
Washington Nationals reliever Enny Romero was designated for assignment by the ball club on Saturday. The team now has to put him through waivers over the next seven days or trade him within ten. The move likely means that the lefty's tenure with the Nats is over as he is unlikely to pass through waivers unclaimed. Despite a nice 2017 season that saw him pitch an ERA of 3.56 over 57 appearances, he's given up three earned runs in two innings this year and the Nationals have plenty of left-handed bullpen options.
Brian Goodwin, Victor Robles And Enny Romero Make Postseason Roster
Brian Goodwin has been cleared to play and made the postseason roster for the Nationals. Rookie speedster Victor Robles also made the cut, giving the Nats five outfielders for the NLDS. Enny Romero, surprisingly, was also added. Goodwin injured his groin muscle in August and suffered a setback in his recovery. He had been taking swings lately, so the team obviously feels he can contribute. Robles was a surprise call-up in September and has shown flashes of his game-changing speed. Both outfielders will be coming off the bench, with Robles likely being used in a pinch-running role exclusively. Romero gives the Nats a fourth left-handed option in the bullpen, in addition to their four righties (Sean Doolittle, Ryan Madson, Brandon Kintzler and Matt Albers).
Enny Romero, who's been out with forearm tightness since August 3rd, looked sharp in his first rehab assignment on Thursday. He retired the side on 14 pitches and struck out one batter. Before the club's acquisition of Sean Doolittle, Romero was the only lefty throwing gas out of the pen. He's struck out 57 batters in 47 innings, but has walked 20. It will be interesting to see where he slots in once he's healthy, though with so many injuries plaguing the Nats Romero could find himself in high-leverage situations down the stretch.
In a bullpen that grows more unreliable by the day, Enny Romero has answered the call for Dusty Baker. The 26-year-old lefty has not allowed a run and struck out 17 batters over his last 12 innings. He even got a five-out save on Saturday, his second of the season. While it's unlikely he'll be the team's long-term closer (he has two blown saves to his name), he's definitely got the hot hand...which is something you can't say about any Nats reliever for long. He's a must-add for players in holds leagues, and will vulture a few saves until Koda Glover returns.
