Elly De La Cruz, Gavin Lux Out Against Diamondbacks

Cincinnati Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz and second baseman Gavin Lux are both out of the starting lineup for Friday's contest against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks. De La Cruz remains on the bereavement list after his sister passed away earlier this week, while Lux will sit with left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez on the mound. Matt McLain is moving to shortstop and will bat eighth, while Garrett Hampson is starting at second base and batting ninth against Rodriguez. McLain has never faced E-Rod, while Hampson has a hit and an RBI against him in just three career at-bats. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect De La Cruz to return to Cincy's lineup until Monday's series finale in Cleveland against the Guardians. Lux has hit well in his first season with the Reds, but he's batting just .133 (4-for-30) against lefties in 25 games.

Gavin Lux on Bench Versus Pirates

Cincinnati Reds infielder/outfielder Gavin Lux will retreat to the bench for Tuesday's game against the division-rival Pittsburgh Pirates with a left-hander on the mound. Catcher Tyler Stephenson is the designated hitter and will bat sixth, while Jose Trevino is doing the catching and hitting seventh against Pirates southpaw Bailey Falter. Lux has gone hitless in three career at-bats against Falter and has gone 3-for-27 (.111) with just one RBI on the season against lefties. The former Dodger has hit a strong .294 (45-for-153) in his first season in Cincy, but it has come with just one long ball and one stolen base. Stephenson will be an intriguing DFS pick at catcher on Tuesday given his .533 career average against Falter in 15 at-bats with two home runs and five RBI. Trevino has gone hitless against Falter in just two career at-bats.

Gavin Lux Starting on Sunday

Cincinnati Reds infielder/outfielder Gavin Lux (back) is returning to the starting nine on Sunday to face the Cleveland Guardians. Lux is slated to cover left field and will bat in the five-hole. Lux was scratched from Saturday's lineup with lower back spasms. However, this injury was relatively minor as he was cleared to return the following day. Through his first 42 games with Cincinnati, Lux has posted a solid .297/.368/.407 slash line with one home run and one stolen base. He has generated a .270 xBA, which places him in the 68th percentile among active hitters. Lux has also shown a strong eye at the plate, drawing walks at a 12.7% rate and striking out at a 22.3% rate. This afternoon, he is a strong play in DFS, facing Cleveland right-hander Luis L. Ortiz.

Gavin Lux Scratched with Back Spasms

Cincinnati Reds second baseman/outfielder Gavin Lux (back) was scratched on Saturday due to lower back spasms. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status leading up to Sunday's contest in case he needs additional time to recover. This afternoon, Will Benson moved over to left field. Over his last three games, Lux has been quite productive at the plate, posting three-straight multi-hit games. Over his last nine contests, Lux has posted a stellar .303/.361/.394 slash line with three doubles. Through his first 42 games in Cincinnati, Lux has been quite impressive, as he has held a .297/.386/.407 line with one home run and one stolen base. If Lux were to remain sidelined, this could open up more opportunities in the starting nine for Rece Hinds and Connor Joe.

Gavin Lux, Jake Fraley Sitting Against A Southpaw

Cincinnati Reds outfielders Gavin Lux and Jake Fraley are both out of the starting lineup with a left-hander on the mound for Friday's series opener against the visiting Washington Nationals. Santiago Espinal is in left field and is batting fifth, while Blake Dunn gets the nod in right field and is in the nine-hole against Nationals southpaw Mitchell Parker. The Reds will rest Lux after he went hitless in his last 10 at-bats. He's gone just 2-for-19 with an RBI and nine strikeouts against lefties this year. Lux has slashed a strong .317/.410/.426 with an .836 OPS in his first 101 at-bats with Cincy this year, but his counting stats have left plenty to be desired with only one homer, one steal, 15 RBI and 14 runs. Fraley is out of the lineup for the third straight game with the Reds facing a string of lefties. Neither Espinal nor Dunn have faced Parker in their careers.

Gavin Lux Collects Three Hits In Reds Win

Cincinnati Reds second baseman/outfielder Gavin Lux went 3-for-4 on Monday night against the Cardinals with a pair of doubles, an RBI, and a run scored. Lux raised his batting average for the season to an impressive .352, and his hot start is backed up by a 44.6% hard-hit rate that would set a new career high. Lux has hit safely in 12 straight games, going 22-for-43 (.512) over that span with five doubles, a home run, and a .553 wOBA. Lux has always had the potential to be outstanding if he's healthy, and he looks fully healthy and ready to be a key part of the Reds' offense the rest of the season. He only has one homer on the year, but his batting average and counting stats have been exceptional.

Gavin Lux, Jake Fraley Sitting Against A Lefty

Cincinnati Reds second baseman Gavin Lux and outfielder Jake Fraley are both sitting out on Thursday in Milwaukee against the division-rival Brewers with a left-hander on the mound. Matt McLain is starting at second base and batting second, and Blake Dunn gets the start in right field and is hitting sixth versus Brewers lefty Nestor Cortes. Santiago Espinal is starting in left field and is batting eighth. Lux, who has hit righties much better in his career, is off to a slow start in his first year in Cincy by going 4-for-19 with a double, RBI, two walks and four strikeouts in his first six games. Fraley has been even worse, going 2-for-18 with an RBI, no walks and three strikeouts in five games played in the early going. Espinal is the only one who has faced Cortes in his career and is hitless in just five at-bats.

Gavin Lux Hitting Cleanup In Reds Debut

Cincinnati Reds infielder/outfielder Gavin Lux is starting in left field and is batting cleanup in his debut for the Reds on Opening Day on Thursday at Great American Ball Park against the visiting San Francisco Giants and right-hander Logan Webb. Especially with Austin Hays (calf) starting the year on the injured list, Lux should be a lineup regular between left field and third base for the Reds against right-handed pitchers. Batting out of the cleanup spot on Opening Day makes the 27-year-old left-handed hitter an enticing DFS play against Webb, who he has hit .263 against with an .838 OPS in his career, including three RBI. While Lux is in a more favorable hitting environment in Cincy, it remains to be seen how much he'll play against lefties after seeing just 46 at-bats versus southpaws in his final season with the Dodgers in 2024.

Gavin Lux Getting Looks At Second And Third Base

Cincinnati Reds infielder Gavin Lux is going to see time at both second base and third base during spring training, according to manager Terry Francona. It sounds like the team wants to see Lux at both spots and don't have plans of moving Lux into the outfield. Lux was acquired by the Reds during the offseason after he became the odd man out with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Last season, Lux hit .251/.320/.383 with 10 home runs and 50 RBI across 139 games with the Dodgers. He put together an extremely strong second half that included a batting average over .300 during his final 61 games. Hopefully, Lux will be able to become a consistent contributor on the Reds roster.

Gavin Lux To Move Around The Infield During Spring Training

According to C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic, Cincinnati Reds infielder Gavin Lux is expected to move around the infield during spring training. Manager Terry Francona noted that the 27-year-old is expected to see time at first, second, and third base, shortstop, and potentially the outfield as well. Last season, Lux spent most of his time at second base for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Earlier in the offseason, the Reds acquired Lux from the Dodgers in exchange for outfielder Mike Sirota. Across 139 games last season, Lux posted a .251/.320/.383 line with 10 home runs and 24 doubles. He also swiped five bases. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor where Lux plays in spring training, as it could impact the playing time for other Cincinnati infielders, such as Noelvi Marte and Santiago Espinal.
