Veteran relief pitcher Heath Hembree has signed a minor-league contract with the Seattle Mariners. The 35-year-old righty had worked just 23 1/3 innings at the major league level over the last two seasons, compiling a poor 6.94 ERA and 1.886 WHIP in the process. He was with the Tampa Bay Rays last season, appearing in just one game. He will likely just serve as organizational depth in Seattle.
Daniel Vogelbach, Heath Hembree Placed On Injured List
The Pittsburgh Pirates placed first baseman Daniel Vogelbach (hamstring) and relief pitcher Heath Hembree (calf) on the injured list on Tuesday. Vogelbach is on the 10-day list while Hembree is on the 15-day list, retroactive to May 21. Right-handed pitcher Roansy Contreras was called up to start Tuesday's game in a corresponding move. Meanwhile, outfielder Cal Mitchell was recalled as well. Vogelbach is off to a solid start to his first year with the Pirates. Over 34 games, he's slashing .241/.321/.457 with six home runs, 14 RBI and 14 runs. His injury designation is a left hamstring strain.

The 33-year-old had a bit of bad luck (4.31 FIP), but he's not likely to be much of a fantasy asset in Pittsburgh, where he's projected to be a setup man ahead of co-closers David Bednar and Chris Stratton. Hembree might be one to look at in deep holds leagues, but he doesn't have a ton of upside with a 4.19 career ERA and 11 saves in nine major league seasons.
