Heath Hembree News

Heath Hembree Blows Up In The Ninth Inning

Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Heath Hembree didn't record an out and allowed three runs to cross in the ninth inning of a 10-4 loss to Toronto on Tuesday. Three consecutive hits, including a triple and double doomed Hembree, who was trying to keep the Red Sox' deficit to two runs. This was a rough one for the 30-year-old after just coming off of three straight scoreless appearances, including a save on July 7. However, Hembree doesn't hold any fantasy value as Boston's bullpen is extremely volatile. Add in Nathan Eovaldi who is set to return from the injured list and jump right into the full-time closer role in the near future.

Heath Hembree Blows Save, Earns Win Wednesday

Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Heath Hembree blew a 12th-inning save chance before locking down a 6-5 win, in the 13th inning, over Toronto Wednesday. Following Mookie Betts' 12th-inning go-ahead home run, Hembree served up a two-out solo shot to Rowdy Tellez to tie it at five. The Sox were able to plate another in the top of the 13th to regain the lead, allowing Hembree to slam the door shut and earn the win, his first of the year. The 30-year-old struck out three in two innings, but obviously the blown save is a blemish for a reliever. Three of the four Boston relievers to appear in Wednesday's game surrendered one run, excluding Ryan Brasier who pitched a scoreless 11th. This is one of the most volatile bullpens in baseball, especially from a fantasy perspective, as no one has gained a grasp on the majority of save chances. It's best to stay away from this situation until something drastically changes.

Heath Hembree Replacing Steven Wright On ALDS Roster

Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Heath Hembree will replace Steven Wright (knee) on the roster for the American League Division Series against the Yankees, according to a source. Wright complained of knee issues before Game 1 on Friday and was sent for an MRI exam, which didn't wield good results. The knuckleballer won't be eligible for the Championship Series now should the Red Sox advance. Hembree went 4-1 this year with a 4.20 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and career-high 11.4 K/9 in 67 appearances (60 innings). He fans a lot but also walks a lot (4.1 BB/9) and allowed 10 homers on the season. He's unlikely to be used in pressure-cooked, late-inning situations in the series.
